The welding process emits three types of light - UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. These light rays will first contact this outer part of the eye - called the Cornea. There exists the aqueous humor fluid behind this Cornea - this fluid will absorb UV-B and UV-C, which causes redness and pain in the eyes. However, UV-A will not get absorbed here because of its higher wavelength and will enter your eye, crossing this pupil of the iris. The lens of our eyes contains this protein, which absorbs up to 98% of UV-A light, and this continuous process of absorption thickens the protein and can lead to cataract. The remaining 2% UV-A will contact these rods and cons named photoreceptors cells present behind the macula in Retina. This 2% light can be so harmful that it can even cause incurable blindness. This happened with me in the past, where I was watching a man welding with naked eyes, at that time i didn't felt much but it started to worsen every hour and it went another level at the night time. I was sleeping and suddenly wake up and was not able to open my eyes properly, therefore I got up from bed and tried to open my eyes fully but was unable to, my eyes were complete red, i washed my eyes and face several times but but nothing seemed to have any effect, and the worst part was my eyes were continuously shedding water, it was so unbearable. That night I woke up nearly 10-15 times because of this pain and was very restless and unable to sleep. So i would here like to give a friendly reminder to everyone that don't look at the welding flames directly, incase if you have to then wear proper goggles and gloves.✌🏻😊♥️

My father owns a garage. And I am sitting there as cashier. Actually there is no serious injuries watching welding. But yes it's not safe to watch the the light when welding. Because in night you will face pain in eye and literally your face will cover with tears. I have faced it a lot of times.

Intensity is inversely proportional to wavelength.

This video just reminded me what happened to my eyes when I was in university doing my practice lecture in welding session and I forgot to use my eye protection glasses, next day i had irritation badly and I couldn't open my eyes for next 3 days. I was lucky though didn't get my eyes damaged permanently. 😁
