The most confusing VR game I have ever played - A Township Tale

- A Township Tale is the first VR MMO I have ever played. I thought Township Tale was a survival game like Minecraft but no. It is a legit VR MMO, maybe, I still don't know. The crafting is fantastic though and I want to get to the end game type gameplay where I can do magic and craft swords. Gamer Supps Link gamersupps.gg/Habie

That kid being genuinely helpfull instead of a little screeching gremlin shows how much small, kind game communities can shape the way someone acts. Fucking wholesome as fuck. 10/10
Quest 2 version is just gremlins :(
I didnt have a way to play PC VR and bought it on the quest store. Had to force turn off every voice feature after an hour. Power tripping child moderators exist as well because quest just has private lobbies. I love the game as a concept and even playing it, but man I wish all the children were like the one here.
@@lastwymsi not even true
@@ssd3303 its possible they had a bad experience, chose the wrong server, or chose the wrong time to play on. Seems a little rude to just out and call someone a liar for sharing their personal experience. Like, not that the web isnt full of liars, but just going "not true" is super not condusive to good conversation.
@lastwymsi1660 Yea that was about my experience too- I bounced it back and got a different game after about 45 minutes- but still maintain it looks like a super cool lil mmo
Then there was my little "clan" when I was 10-13, made up of 15-17 year olds aside from me, mostly playing Entmod in Sven-Coop.. Definitely more along the gremlin side of things.
Someone would join our server and the text and voice chats would immediately fill up with profanities and "creative" insults being hurled at them.

Finally you are checking out Township Tale. I spent about 100 hours adventuring with friends last summer. It’s a very chill game and the community is very helpful
Um I think the oculus version of township tale is very toxic because there to many little kids but the pc is a better version (subscribe to my channel)
Well even there the kids are still very helpful, it just seems like this game has a great community.
@@littlemrh yea but there a lot of toxic people in this game
@@Emerald____ I played the game once on my quest and it was many kids singing and talking to themself
@@Emerald____yeah play pcvr but if you do play timeship tale the people are amazing
I always play a private server w friends and slowly unlocking tools and regions together is so satisfying, there’s always more than I expect there to be.
Are private servers free?
@@tommyfortress7515 it only let me make one for free, and you can’t delete it and make more; once you start it it seems permanent! (This was on quest 2, idk ab pc)
On Quest 2 you get one free private server, then have to pay. On PC you have to pay to get private server.
@@RealBurntLettuce well that's lame
@@Giliver the game is free on pc
Habbie has that charm that i've only ever seen badger have
the ability to make any game look like the second coming of christ
god i thought you meant a badger, as in the animal not the youtuber before i read the 2nd sentance lmao
ANY GAME DUDE. How?! I’ve downloaded games I KNEW I wouldn’t enjoy because Habie made me think I would…
I mean he got me to redownload Skyrim despite knowing I'm not a fan of it. Who knew that in VR with a ton of mods it would finally feel like a good game? lol
He's very chill, but also has a way to see the best in whatever he's playing. He seems to just have fresh eyes for anything that runs, whether it's truly spectacular, or a somewhat buggy mess, and makes the most of what's there. It's very neutrally positive if that makes sense.
badger is goated with the swaws but habie is chill, and thats all i need
you'll never see this, but thanks for covering this game. I tried it out after watching this video and it was a big deal. I've made friends, had memorable experiences and even made huge progress in crafting. my world is a bit of a mess right now and it's nice to be able to go into a world that's a little more simple and fun. thanks Habie, sorry for the sappiness.
he saw this
It's pretty amazing how consistent your uploads are. You are my Saturday Supper CZcamsr for the past few months now
Township tale is gonna get the attention it deserves thank you Habie for showing it off
sadly the playerbase has been on a steady decline for a while now. the devs still arent doing any advertisement tho. lets see how far they take it,
@@samilyener I know me along with my brother, are about to get it to see how good it is. Your right though, this game is not being advertised enough
100%
I love the way he ends his videos with a farewell to new people, that is the main reason I got hooked.
The fact that he called the worms un-killable hurt my soul
those ain't even the crystal worms D:
How do you kill the worms?
@@notsaying7838 If you craft an actual weapon, it'll do some decent damage, especially red iron. Flint kinda sucks for just about everything, and that includes murder.
@@Captain_Epum I see
That's called sarcasm. He knows they're killable. At the time, they seemed unkillable with his available tools and knowledge, lol.
It is a good day when Habie uploads.
You copyied my comment word for word
@@nollie632 i mean it isnt exactly a rare and original comment, still factual tho
@@nollie632 It is a good day when Habie uploads.
@@nollie632 mate, that comment is not original 💀💀 you didn’t come up with that. It’s been a thing for a while. So don’t be telling other people that they “copied” your comment word for word because its not YOUR comment and it ain’t original so don’t start blaming other people for your stupidity
@@nollie632 It is a good day when Habie uploads.
Never have I felt so much fear in any game, but township, when I dropped a torch in the cave and my only light source was 2 rocks with creatures absolutely terrifying
I really can't stress how cool total darkness in VR games really is. This makes me hope that we get nighttime dungeon generations in Blade & Sorcery down the line
i played this a while ago, might get back into it, but a pro tip about cooking when i played (im only halfway through the video) is that you can start a campfire in a chest you find, (in the actual chest), then place food above the fire (not in the slots where stuff can be stored), when the food is cooked it will automatically go into the chests' slots so you can easily take the cooked food out, no worries of burning it.
I remember playing this game for the first time years ago, I got given stuff from a really kind guy waiting for newbies, then I followed him around for the next 6 hours
This is truly the most confusing VR game that habie147 has ever played
I tried it with my gf like a year ago and couldn't figure out how to do anything. After a couple of frustrating days we gave up. Looks like it hasn't changed much.
yeah, the game is full of floating Amputee people,
makes my brain detached from the matrix for a second
Habie: This game has no skills
Also Habie: *shows skills*
Crazy how this video is probably gonna cause a long awaited revival for this game
Hey, Thanks for adding me. It's a honor, I was the dude with black outfit. "hey he waved at me"
"Even after we found a sword and shield" I'm sorry to say but those are rusted blades which I think deal less damage in the end than the flint pick.
Also information dump:
- Can throw the tree guy's dropped orbs at the enemy, they explode on impact.
- Can also run circles around the weird mineshaft worm thing until they do an attack, it'll miss, passing beside you and then you can attack a couple times. Moving is very big in combat especially when you get a lot of rock guys following and a lot of those worms in the lower levels.
- There is a skill/magic system. Every stone hit by a pickaxe of any kind (that can break the stone/ore) grants experience in that area. Eventually you'll earn a level and it'll appear as a little bar by the respective skill where we saw all the skills and their progress circles. So technically it's best to train with items that do the least as you'll have to hit whatever more to break/kill it. Same goes for swords, mining, archery, blacksmithing, and lumberjacking, With levels you then purchase/unlock skills from an ascending tree at their respective ruin temple thing.
+ There's a climbing tower that is essentially climbing parkour puzzle to top of tower to earn the ability to climb anywhere in the world. Really fun but hard at first.
+ There are like these dungeon things in the mineshaft that you have to clear and can then begin making certain alloys (combined metal for better function).
+ I believe they added farming.
I'll stop there might as well add me on discord if you really wanna know what all but yea, it doesn't hold your hand lol.
cory needs his own spinoff
Hopefully this game can have new life breathed into it, back when I played it was super fun but now I haven't seen much activity. Hopefully people come back to it.
It's because they don't update it, PC has been left to rot as they try to get quest 2 up to date, and even that is taking forever, took a year to get the tower update out on quest and all it did was add a climable tower, I love the game to bits but it's unfortunate how slow the game is updating
@@theenthusiast5692 Dude... I know why the game is dying, but I still hope that if enough people get interested in it, they'll pick up their slack
Well with how many people that watch habies videos it's bound to bring SOME people over, it's just the issue of having them stay
@@montecarlowithdawningornam1817 well I was going to play but these comments made me a little doubtful
@@montecarlowithdawningornam1817 it brought me over and I've been playing it for a while now
Kid bro at 8:30 seemed like a good chill person - Seriously, the smaller, more tight knit feel is why MMOs in the early 2000s were so cool. Games like Ragnarok online were HUGE but 2000 people online on 1 server at a time was not...WoW Numbers. And it made for people getting to know each other, being kind to one another or backstabbing people.
Smaller communities rule man. I do still like bigger MMOs but man, these smaller, more laid back communities have a great vibe to them
I love that that one kid's character model is completely normal except for being unreasonably short
These kids actually sound chill lol I dig it
Haven't played VR stuff in months. Still come back for your entertainment. Keep having fun Habie.
Love how consistent these videos are! Every Saturday at noon!
this looks so cool. also damn, nice children in VR?!
But to you habie and everyone else in this wonderful community, i really hope you're doing fine! And if not, remember that you are loved and it will get better! love y'all and have some great days!
If you play on Quest standalone, you can make your own private servers. I think you can do that if you're a supporter too.
There is a wiki for A Township Tale, but a lot of the stuff you need to know is gonna be taught by seeing and doing rather than reading
Supporter, which is like $15 if I remember correctly, gives a permanent private server, even if you don't continue your subscription.
My favorite VR game of all time it was one of my first VR games and I grinded it with my friends for months
township pro here just wanting to tell some new players small bits about the game that were in the video
2:20 there aren't just 3 servers, but there are probably thousands with roughly the same amount of players
7:56 there are multiple skill shrines around the map where you can obtain a skill once a certain xp requirement is met
7:16 rusty weapons are possibly the worst weapons in the game (they deal a VERY small amount of damage), you can obtain ore in the mines and go to the smithy to the left of the pond with the big rock in it up the stairs to create metal bars that you use to make tools/weapons
then why did only 3 show up?
Honestly, I kinda like that it's hard to find out things for this game. One of the amazing things about old MMOs was how much discovery and exploration played into it. There weren't many tutorials or detailed walkthroughs. Sometimes the existence of a rare armor or easter egg was hearsay or a schoolyard legend.
The expansion of the internet killed that. Now before a games out, the patches will be datamined, ideal meta builds thrown together and every secret consolidated in a clean concise CZcams video on launch day.
I'm not saying this game and other VR games like it will stay that way. But in the short while it's been around, I love the reemergence of that old school discovery in ATT. :)
The feeling of everyone else knowing unknowable information is real
It’s always a great day when Habie posts
7:59 "I can't read" lol!
Only started watching your channel today but I am loving just genuinely checking out some cool games I would have never seen otherwise. The tone and light humor and delicious, keep up the work my dude, I know how grueling that editing can be, God Bless
YES, just got this game the other day myself and been loving it so far, community has a few extra chromosomes but its fun
The crafting mechanics in this game are tedious sometimes but easily the best I've seen in a vr game
The discover servers only shows servers that are currently active. there are hundreds of great others. For anyone who decides to get into the game I highly recommend joining the discord server.
ATT is very fun when you understand it omg i love it understanding how to smelt or how to get abilitys or how to forge is so much fun to do and the enjoyment you get from finally figuring it out is amazing
So glad to see someone covering this, I remember playing it back in prolly 2016-2017 and met so many cool as people (and also screamed and cried in the mines when my light source ran out)
@8:04 “i can’t read” i loved that ahaha
I got the game pre ordered with a friend, and because of that we got our own private server and we played the game non stop for like 3 months
There are skills(the more you do things the more skills you unlock at the skill shrines scattered across the land), even a tower you can climb to unlock the ability to climb. Its fun
i played this game a long time ago and i spent so much time loving every minute of it especially the time it took me a week to finish climbing the tower.
What a nice video!
People like you are the entire reason i made a little startup tutorial for this game a long time ago. its prob heavy outdated now. but i fell in love with this game and their developers. the vision they have for VR games and how crafting should look in a rpg.
The community mostly is awesome and helpful! not sure how it is now.
Do remember that there's SO much more to do in the game! you didnt even scratch the surface by far!
Busting the mystery with in depth tutorial will def ruin the magic of township. i would suggest trying to figure stuff out alone or with in-game help as much as you can!
i just hoped they would put in some common goals you could build towards as a player or server by now.
Habie, your outros always genuinely warm my heart. Thank you so very much for the wonderful content!
I've had a lot of fun playing Township Tale back in the day, only thing that would make it better is the lack of children running around stealing your stuff
So glad you’ve started playing this, I ALWAYS wanted you to try it out.
Man I’ve been having a rough day, and your videos just always get me in a good mood, but specially the end with just giving a good message. Thanks Habie 🤙
Very funny content! I loooove ATT. I played it sooo much. I called it my exercise game. I really enjoyed the harvesting and fighting. So there were a lot of repetitive movements that would give me a bit of a workout.
Habie please play Zenith, it’s a really cool vr mmo with cooking, combat, and fun exploration. Last time I checked there were still quite a lot of players and they still update it. Plus you can glide around the map and it’s incredible. Love your content bro
I remember finding your channel EARLY EARLY on - wild to see how much things have grown. Every video makes me giggle - keep up the AMAZING work
I used to play this a ton before they shut down the official servers :(
And after that the player count dropped a ton
i gen got so happy when i sat down to eat my food and a habie video popped up such a vid to listen to during my meals. Keep it up Habie love it
Thank you for finally covering this amazing game!
I've been watching you for a while now and yet your outro never fails to make me smile. Your videos are so genuine and calming, keep up the great work :)
wow i can't believe this game is still a thing. i played the early alphas sometime in 2017-18, so seeing it still running 4-5 years later is awesome. takes me back to the golden age of vr for me.
Listening to the words ‘itsahobit spazticninga’ is the perfect way to start off any day. I am so glad that youtube recommended you to me while i was looking into skyrim vr modding help
watching this video reminded me of how fun this game was... All I remembered of it was the jankiness and having to search up tutorials for literally everything, but it was also pretty fun when things worked
6:23 thank you kind internet stranger
dude i keep coming across this channel, keep up the good work man, whenever you reference recent videos, like the star citizen one in this video, i remember "wait, i know this dude! i like his videos!" i gotta actually subscribe at this point
I love this game so much! Everything feels so rewarding when you make it by hand and give it that personal touch.
A township tale is one of my favourite games, I know basically everything about it, and I’ve done about everything I can, so there’s not much for me to do anymore, so seeing someone new playing it just brings me back to when I first found it, and I too found lighting torches with flint to be the best part of the game, and also, it most certainly has skills, and if anyone needs a server to play on, look for The Zone, it’s a PC server
I just want to thank you for making this video, This game is genuinely one of my favorite games of all time now. I think this was the first video of yours that I watched and I immediately went and got this set up. I mean, a free, online adventure mmo/rpg in VR? Sign me up! I found an amazing server with a super active and friendly community and made several friends thanks to you!
Oh my god Habie... you played the one game I know allot about and then played exactly like I did when I started... I wanted to help you so much at every point of this video
6:19 much love to the person who did this, assuming they weren’t joking
That’s a very cool thing to do, caught me off guard
I did get a chuckle out of this, I ran a server on quest, it’s a real fun game me and one of my better friends got obsessed with for a while, my only issue was that the quest version didn’t have more of the full game, just gonna leave this here also: those glowy orbs that the tree guys drop can explode, and if u hit a phantom with one it makes it so u can hit them, and there r skills, they r pretty well done aswell.
"Kids on the server are helpful to new players". The one time I played this game, a bronze dagger gifted to me by another player got stolen out of my backpack by a shithead little kid. They ran away and left the server and I camped out near where they disappeared for like 15 minutes with my bow. Never came back
Also there's a blueberry patch in town that you can harvest for free food.
crazy how far your channels come! super proud of you :D
Habie, I can’t believe you have over half a million subscribers. I’ve been here since 30k and I am so proud to see how far you’ve come already. Keep up the great work and thank you for getting me through hard times. 😊
Ah I remember playing this a few years back I had such a blast. Ive actually met a few people on that game I still play with to this day.
this video revived a Dungeon tale, thank you so much habbie!!!
for me i dont do much really gameplay wise but the social aspect alone is what keeps me coming back no matter if I have nothing to do or the server has been cleaned out I can still have fun roaming around with people talking and having a blast you should have definitely asked around about the giant climbing tower which is a giant huge huge huge tower that you can climb and it gives you the power to pretty much climb on every single surface of the game.
Love your channel Habie
You can’t say there’s nothing of value, you inspire me every video to have fun try new things and to know it’s ok to make mistakes, thank you habie
Based Habie having Kingdom Come Deliverance on his desktop
I recognized almost all the people in this video, you were playing on my main server. Thats so cool!
im so glad you decided to review this game!!!
I'm happy ur checking out township tale and also just so you know in order to get other servers you have to join them on the launcher
I love that you still announce the mega brains out there!! Excellent content as always.
It's been so long since I played. I remember going in a mining party into the mines, going with people to help them get their stuff back from the mines, calculating the value of each metal and alloy based on the rarity of the ore in the mines, and also getting a lot of coins.
brings back memories of my start in township tale, good tmies
i've been waiting for you to play this game omggg
I PLAYED THIS LIKE 2 YEARS AGO, Glad its still coming along
I really enjoyed watching all 10 minutes of this video, thanks for this video
It has skills. Would love to see you attempt the climbing tower. The community in this game is so damn welcoming. I'm usually in a timeship tale, if i catch you around I'll show you around
I love how around 20 seconds after the time code to skip pops up is just a mirror brain named "fart" so if I'm in a rush and skipping through the fart still rings through.
May I add this games community is amazing, joined like 5 servers and all of them some dude just gave me a really good wepon and showed me how to do stuff
I should also mention you earn level-ups in certain skills which help a lot. You can upgrade your health too by finding heart flower things. Haha, dunno what they are called but you see them glowing out in the fields far from town.
Glad your covering, although if you do make another video please touch on the blacksmithing cause damn you can make some really cool stuff.
Habie, thanks to you. I decided to get this game! even though I am not social at all. like even in vrchat I usually find singleplayer games and stuff... and now I have gotten to playing this in singleplayer too. and even though it might be less fun. but it is still fun.
Hammering -- back in 2016 or 2017 the nVidia Funhouse VR app had a "whack-a-mole" game where you used a hammer. In fact, this was a really good demo that I used to show a couple of people the extra latency of the Windows MR Samsung Odyssey as compared to the Vive / Vive Pro. The Odyssey manifested lag / latency in "motion-to-photons" that you could tell pretty easily when hammering, which made it feel disconnected and remote, while the Vive felt more connected and immediate and more pleasingly real.
Definitely chuckled several times.
2 Parts: First please tell Habie this, Second My thoughts (ignore if too long)
Someone please tell Habie he should make a new public world, there'll be lever in the menu that displays "Create Server". Can find this server in the "Your Servers" section of the Server Menu.
I'm not the most versed in the game so i cant say i know which way is best but only my personal thoughts. I think Habie starting a new world would be best, it would allow him to learn all the different parts of the game as hes rebuilding the town. Plus if Habie was ok with it he could make a smoothbrain server that everyone could build together.
Love watching your videos and always looking forward to if there'll be another, though I still can't figure out why I like watching the non-bits every time. I'm so happy to know a donations going to trans shelter. Hope your brains stay smooth and good luck for the future.
*holding something on fire* : habie: "This is fine"
*realizing its damaging you* : habie: "Ow, ouch, owie"
My buddy and I had a thriving katana selling business. We had extremely thin margins, and we had no idea how to make katanas. It all started from providing extensive property reassignment relief to a player. We had to keep up images or else the (extremely) wholesome tight-nit community would have out casted us. So we stumbled our way through figuring out katana making. Shits really hard and past the “investment” made by another player we pretty much had no profit. Was fun.
My favourite Vr youtuber always making a banger of a video!
BRO I SAW THIS GAME SO LONG AGO AND I NEVER KNEW WHAT IT WAS AND ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY IT BUT NEVER HAD A VR, NOW I DO AND COULD NOT REMEMBER IT, thank you for showing me this game again
the ending to these videos are always so wholesome i love it
Every single time I see a Habie video come out I drop everything and sit down to watch.
