My mom is elderly and stopped driving about 4 years ago. She has a Honda like this, but not the wagon. It hadn't been started in 4 years. I put fresh gas in it, threw in a battery, it cranked right up and drove perfectly. Only thing I could hear was the brakes making noise. I think rust on the brake rotors. My mom had a 1993 Accord EX wagon when I was a kid, except hers had a dark red exterior with a gray interior, and it was an automatic. My dad bought it for her with 50,000 miles 1-2 months before I was born, she had it for 12 years and she sold it with 205,000 miles.
It had the problems that are typical with Honda/Acura products from the period, like the bad clearcoat that peeled off, and white blotches on the roof and the hood that formed due to sun exposure. It also wouldn't start sometimes unless the key was in the perfect place because the electrics in the steering column were worn, but that never stranded her. The only time it let her down was when the distributor failed, but that happened at home, so it wasn't a big deal, she just had it towed to a local garage.
But besides that, it drove like a brand new car before she sold it, the A/C never broke and it was still ice cold, and the interior was in mint condition except for the plastic on the steering wheel that deteriorated over time from the sun, which she covered up with a steering wheel cover. I ran a Carfax on it recently after I found the old window sticker, and it was scrapped one year after she sold it after it was crashed. It cost $22,593.76 in 1993, which is $47,433.29 in 2023, so it wasn't a cheap ride.

At this point it's gotta be the ride height and the styling. For a brief while some wagons and crossovers sat together. Think the of the Buick wagon and the various European stuff like VW, Volvo etc.
Customers came to the dealer. Maybe saw a few wagons and a ton of crossovers and went for the crossover. My guess is they find wagons ugly. Trying to convince someone to buy a car they find ugly is impossible. Think if someone told you to buy a car you think is ugly.

A time when many base model cars still had 13" rims. But you could upgrade to the 14's. Certain sporty variants even had 15's.

I currently own one in the Hampshire Green Metallic color even. It doesn't run because it has been left in a field for several years and was in the midst of being parted out when I found it, but I'm going to turn it electric as a long term project car and get it going again that way. I refuse to let it go anywhere.

Ford and Honda basically did the same thing -- took their 4 door sedan and slapped a top on the rear and extended it by a few feet to make it a wagon (the Ford Taurus wagon was the same mentality as the Accord wagon, although I don't think either were best sellers -- although the Taurus sedan was for many years up until it was redesigned in 1996, as was the Accord from the late 80's and onward).
The inclusion of many standard features is one thing that has drawn me to many of the Japanese cars... things like power doors lock and windows, and cruise control on the mid to higher end models, where on US equivalent vehicles it would have to be ordered with the feature (like Cruise control, in some cases) or you had to buy a higher-end trim package just to get things like power windows and locks, and keyless entry. Of course these features are mostly standard today on even the most basic trim levels of cars since it's actually cheaper for manufacturers to just have one system they use in all cars that all cars can share.

Cost them precious little to basically convert the existing accord sedan design into a wagon so even at $19K they could easily afford to let it go well equipped out the door. Definitely was a statement of intent vehicle.

I can only imagine how awesome and great looking the current gen accord wagon would be today if Honda stayed with the model. a little sleeker, a little edgier and throw in the hybrid drivetrain (not my 1st choice) or the 2.0t and you have a relatively quick wagon that can do it all

I get why wagons fell out of style in favor of minivans and, eventually, crossovers, but I'd love to see them make a comeback sometime. I know plenty of people, myself included, admire vintage wagons, so I have to wonder if the day will come when companies start building new wagons.

I absolutely agree, the '90-'93 Accord were the best looking models. Then it was a long time before I found the Accord to be attractive again. That was the 2008 model. Most desirable was the dark burgundy colour option. I loved this green shade on that wagon. Does anybody know the factory name given to it? Those years too, '90-'93, the Accord was stunning in a dark burgundy shade. The "90-'93 Accord wagon was a very attractive model, that even though I was 10 y/o I really wanted one. The middle '80s Accord was nice, too. But, if I'm in the market for an '80s Accord, then I'm going to dig deeper and go for the '86+ Acura Legend.
