I watched tons of videos here on CZcams and this is the only one were I could finally pronounce and distinguish these three sounds. Don't get me wrong, other videos are good as well, but this one is the one that I could resonate with. Thank you so much 谢谢
Now after about 9 months, finally, I can recognize the difference between j, q, x. This video is very good. I got all the correct answer.
Thank you for this video! The drills at the end were helpful in reminding me that while it seems simple in the lesson, recognizing the sound is very difficult.
This is the best explanation for what makes them different from eachother! Thanks a lot!
You are a very good teacher in phonetics and as a teacher in general! This video has helped me progressing in my learning of chinese language. Thank you very much.
This video was probably the best one I’ve come across in terms of pronouncing j,q,x.
Thanks a lot. I live in Southern Brazil, just started studying Mandarin, your video is helping me to learn these new sounds.
This was SUPER helpful and easy to understand/learn. Thank you so much - well done!!
感謝! q x are the two toughest sounds for us to recognize and produce!
if you listen to it again, you can hear a small "t" sound in q
one the best (if not the best) explanation of pronouncing these initials. Great stuff
Thank you so much! I love your channel guys!
How about ci - shi, zhi-zhe etc...
Please make a video about the -n and -ng finals
When pronouncing [n], put your tip of tongue onto the upper gum. Let the air come out from the nose.
When pronouncing [ng], low your back of tongue, then the air will escape from the back.
Thanks for the explanation. Still need more help.

I gave up learning Chinese for almost 10 years ago because of these J Q X sounds all the same to me. Finally, I can make the sounds and was able to distinguish between them. I can go on and continue with other set of zh ch zh r and z c s. I own this teacher a big thank!

Or one could say, if one does want to make a comparison with English, it should be at the _end_ , as a comment on the result: as a result of using the proper configuration of mouth parts, one should get a sound that is similar to English j, ch, and sh, but that is sweeter, brighter, and more sparkling.
谢谢! 我完全在这方面挣扎。 这样的词 “一些, 一起,一切,写, 学习”
i need job
Все угадала! Спасибо!

I mean I got all of them right. I can discern them when I hear them with relative ease. After the first listen I was sure of my answer but I just feel as though, I’m not pronouncing them correctly.
Granted only person to ever hear my mandarin is me but still.
Bravo for your superb professional and detailed instruction! I have watched so many clips about j q x z c s zh ch sh r and I confirmed that yours has the best quality. Couldn’t more clear than that
好吧!... Everything's OK (👍), the only thing is I have no idea how to do to raise the middle of my tongue to the roof of my mouth!....
就是... I have no chance!
😩
some of the drills were testing -IN versus -ING
which difference isn't explained in the start of the video
and which is ALSO very tough for us to distinguish
怎麼辦?
Be patient, Ann. We'll do more videos about Chinese pinyin in future. You can search the pronunciaiton tips from the internet or learn from your text book first. 😊
@@EverydayChinese I wasn't complaining; I was trying to be thankful!
Thank you!
@@QuizmasterLaw In pronouncing “in”, your tongue should be in the front, touching the roof of your mouth just behind your front teeth. Then say "ing", do the same, but your tongue should be at the back of your mouth. Try to hear the difference in sound when you do exercise.
謝謝您解釋很好,還有.,C,Z,S 不知什麼時候 您能解釋

Please made video about z ,c , s
❤
It was so difficult! 😂😅
Justine Clavel compare to Standard Arabic, Mandarin doesn’t have stressed sound. So it is not difficult as Arabic.

I think the pinyin J is pronounced quite similar to the English J: "d-sh".
The pinyin X is pronounced similar to "x" in "Mexico" pronounced in Spanish.
The digraph ch is pronounced "t-sh" while the letter Q is pronounced "t-x".
お疲れ様 xiéxie xiexie very good lecon
laoshi please make a between c, ch, z, zh
Hi老师, 为什么 中国人制造汉语拼音的时候,这个 Q, 不是用 ch。比如 [求] 是 qiu, 而不是 Chiu. 因为其实 q 跟 k 在其他语言是同一个音的。一般会把 qiu 念成 kiu。我学过台湾的汉语拼音,他们姓邱 拼音是Chiu. 姓钱 拼音是 chian. 在中国是 Qian, 我没有学汉语拼音的时候,我会把qian念 kian
Whether Chinese language has "root word" concept, to frame new words from root word, prefix and suffix?
There is root word concept, in English.
eg
re + build = rebuild
It means, "build again".
psych + iatry = psychiatry
It means, "Medical study of mind (psych)"
psych + o + logy = psychology
It means, "Study of mind (psych)"
J and q sound very similar to me
💜👍️
It's interesting that in pinyin, the letters j, q, x can only be followed by the letter i. Or the letter u. (Never by any other letter.) When followed by the letter u, it is always pronounced as ü, but the dots are omitted. I don't know why it's done this way. Some people say it's so that we can save a bit of ink when printing them out. :-)
j q x cannot be put before "u" to make syllables, but they can be put before "ü". When j q x are used before "ü", we don't write the two dots of "ü", for simplification, we write "u" instead.
I can't differentiate the sound between S and c. And even I don't pronounce it correctly, Pls help me out.
The pronunciation of c is similar to “ts” as in the English word “cats” and comes with an obvious airflow.
When pronouncing s, you put the tip of your tongue close to your teeth and squeeze out your breath. It sounds close to “s” in the English word “sweet”.

👍👍👍🌹🌷🌹
Is it different for qiǎo like in chocolate. I simply cannot pronounce it correctly (・o・)
1 missing 😢
作为一个中国人,看着这视频我突然不记得怎么读拼音的C了
To clarify the stupid video lesson:
You start practicing from the basic easier X. It is sort of funny sounding S. You try to utter S, while your tongue is pressed against your lower teeth. The result seems to sound close to the English S or TH, but it's not identical and the Chinese speakers will sense the difference. IPA: [ɕ]
After mastering the X, move to J. It is like the Chinese X sound but now try to add T in front of it. It sounds close to an English TS (caTS), but again it's not identical. It is very difficult for the English speakers because they can hardly say TS at the beginning of a syllable. IPA: [t͡ɕ]
Finally, move to Q. It is like the Chinese J sound, but now you add an H after the J sound, without generating a new syllable. Linguistically this is called "aspiration". In several Asian languages there are aspirated consonants, meaning they are merged with the H sound. The Chinese Q sounds close to TS'H, but with a nuance. IPA: [t͡ɕʰ]
I broke my tongue
Still sounding the same to me
You forgot r ☹️
Yeah I have the same problem, it's too hard to pronounce it
Ninja-jumipy2011 - yeah it helps to think of the wr in wren and the s in measure but I still have trouble with it
That's complicated... 😂
Your name is Crystal, not Christoo.
To pronounce the terminal L in words like "tool" your tongue has to touch the backs of your upper front teeth -- whic is why terminal-L syllables are called dentals.
still cannot separate q and x 😢
建議想學中文的朋友,注音符號(ㄅ)是學中文較佳的方法
ci - shi, zhi-zhe, Coro ... wait what?
You are showing j but your are pronouncing ji. You are adding an vowel namely "i"
You shouldn't do that, it causes the people with no acquaintance with phonetics to get confused.
Particularly english speakers, whose ability to perceive the sounds of languages is massed up due to their bad habit of referring to the sounds with the names of their corresponding alphabet (for example h as ech sound, w as dabelew sound, k as key sound) since their childhood.
A lot of these video but chinese people speak so fast that pronunciation is all the same.
Thank you so much
