    I remember being at this race and the trance Scott was in when he got out of the car at the end of the race...
    He had the look of a man possessed and this video showing him beating up his dash and steering wheel at a couple of points early on in the race demonstrated his intensity and pure desire to win.
    Good times, great post!

    no paddle shift, no ESC, no ABS. Real driving, PURE driving!

      @JohnBassett4  Před 8 lety +5

      yes ABS. On off switch in fact which is why he went off. Half the track was damp, half dry. He was trying to turn the ABS off but missed the switch and he missed his breaking point.

    Pure determination. A hungry soul. If he would of started in the top 10, he would of had victory!! Great driving. Shocked the tires lasted.

    Update. And this from a reliable source in the race that day, that the reason Scott was at the back of the pack at the start of the race was because he blew the turbo waste gate, apparently the replacement that was found at the track from a civilians car and taken off and mounted on the race car, was found to be extremely modified after the race by tech officials. Many of the participants found the car to be extremely fast down the straight. This still remains a great drive! !

    In our province of Quebec we use to call Richard Spenard King Richard, on the track he was and still is that good.

  • @JohnBassett4
    @JohnBassett4  Před 11 lety +2

    It was spitting on half the circuit. You'll also notice he would flip a switch on the dash during the lap to turn the ABS on and off depending on where the track was wet or dry. The reason he went off the track that one time was because he missed the switch and locked up the tires!

  • @translogpk
    @translogpk Před 13 lety +2

    He is screaming at the fact that he missed the exit of the corner the way he wanted to, to get better acceleration specifically out of the s's were the track has a long portion of un interupted bends were he can make up on cars. That 2 miles an hour faster out of an important exit goes a long way at the end of that run. You will notice that when he gets the exit right he pumps his fist.

    Tremblant is my home track and I have run there several times on it. Richard Spenard who finished a head of Scott use to be my instructor, he was Gilles Villeneuves driving partner during the Formal Atlantic ( Direct Film) circa 1973 I think ) days before Villeneuve was noticed by James Hunt (F1) who got passed by Villeneuve in an Atlantic race ( @ Trios Rivieres) and gave Villeneuve an introduction to one of the F1 teams of the day the rest was history as he ascended into to F1.

    1988. It was not an aftermarket part, just part from a street car at the track. Series officials approved the move ahead of time.

    Tricky Ricky was pretty good, and did finish 2nd in this race behind Jacques Villeneuve Sr., but Goodyear won 3 of the first 4 races in 1988 and won the championship ahead of Spenard.

  • @JohnBassett4
    @JohnBassett4  Před 13 lety

    @translogpk Only partly true. During tech, officials somehow broke some sort of valve inside the turbo plumbing by deciding to blow into it with a straw! Porsche nor any teams had any replacements on site so a donor part was found in a local car. I don't know of it's condition post race.

  • @23294virgo
    @23294virgo Před 11 lety +1

    Forces his way past half the field early on only to an offtrack excursion by mid-race. Then, fights blurry vision with rain, oil and @26:30 a scorched oil cooler line in the third place car. Flames and all.. Never gives up, never backs down, curses and pounds fist every time he misses the short apex onto the long lefthand-downhiller.. and comes in 3rd. How would've Gilles finished from 24th with the extra boost?
    Any 944 owner must covet this as the best example of our car's racing potential.

  • @i-never-look-at-replies-lol

    Okay, so since everyone has brought up how fast this car was, were all these tuned to the same specs, but this one ended up faster because of the aforementioned broken valve? Or did this guy's team just excel at tuning cars?

    • @feints7714
      @feints7714 Před 2 lety

      He was gaining 100 feet on them under braking, so it wasn't the turbo valve.

  • @JohnBassett4
    @JohnBassett4  Před 13 lety

    @ffffaffff Actually that's his ABS light. Back then you could turn ABS on and off. And that's the reason he went off on that one lap as he missed the switch heading into the corners and he locked up.
