  • 4 SD40E's lead a monster NS mixed freight 10N as it comes up track 1 at Cassandra, 6324, 6304, 6302, 6305, and 9777 pull as hard as they can and were hardly able to make the hill with a 2 mile long train as they were barely making 10 MPH and the first 5 units all in notch 8. And a helper set on the rear 6306, and 6303. With chatter on the radio 10N has to stop up at Cresson MO, still miss tho’s SD40-2’s tho.
    At 6:21 you can hear the approach of NS 38Q mixed freight comes up the grade on track 2 with 9332, and 8324 pulling the freight up hill at Cassandra with 6327, and 6317 pushing on the rear. A nice race comes to a cool helper meet as they both go around the bend. Enjoy!!

    A few weeks back we had an extremely loud train come through town (CSX Elsdon Subdivision.) I live about a block or so away from the tracks and we all woke up. I was so disturbed at the abrupt awakening that I even went to get up to look out the window. On our local facebook group for the town there were people asking if it was some sort of siren. I feel for the folks who live right beside the tracks.
    Anyway, I was thinking that perhaps the horn was partially stuck. But it sounded more like this, just EXTREMELY loud. It wasn't usual. Any thoughts to what it might have been that would make a locomotive deafening? Or maybe it was just a partially stuck horn? Like quarter horn valve open all of the time? I don't know what else to tell you about it, other than it was LOUD.

      @@rgood7788 I researched a bit more last night - it somewhat sounded like a dynamic brake fan. I know that they can be pretty loud. But not THIS loud. It was really, really something.

      @@rgood7788 I don't know for sure. Possibly just the sound of the engines, but I can't be certain because I live about a block away from the tracks. Still it was the loudest sound we have ever heard from a train, and in our local community facebook group, people were commenting as well. We never get awoken by trains but this one genuinely made me jump out of bed to look out of the window.
      This track system is very active so there are many trains that pass through here on a daily basis. I have lived here for a very long time as well.

    It takes 8 diesel locos to move 130 cars were as it takes only one steamy big boy to move such a load.

    • @DetroitLove4U
      @DetroitLove4U Před 4 lety

      Well I am at a loss here unless you mentioned which track was 1 and 2 at the beginning, however, the second hauling train manifest that appeared - are those empties??? I gather they are because they're moving at a higher velocity with less of a power move of units.
