We must share Truth - in 2008, I was a gay-identified man, in a committed, monogamous same-sex relationship, active in an affirming church, then found myself in an ICU where the medical team classified me clinically dead after a 22-minute flatline. I experienced death, judgement and hell. When I couldn’t take any more demonic torment, I cried out in repentance, “Jesus!” and I heard the Savior say, “I am here.” At that moment, I saw with my eyes the Wind of the Holy Spirit fill my ICU and with great power, He pick up Satan and the demonic and blew them out of the room. On that day, my life changed, the redemptive Blood of Jesus cleared my mind of perversion, and completely healed and restored every failing organ. Glory to God!

I'm always amazed at how straight people tackle this issue. I am a former lesbian who was steeped in the lifestyle until Jesus set me free. The question the son asked was simply to justify his sin. Two rights do not make a wrong. This father needs some answers. His son is stuck in a false identity. Something that rarely changes absent Christ. Homosexuality is a sin - even more, it is a severe stronghold. It can take time to unravel. But the first step is son becoming a child of God. Without Jesus, there is no hope of redemption - for anyone. I minister to parents and friends of gays, gays themselves, and I am now battling the church, which, sadly, has bought the many lies surrounding the gay lifestyle. We have alot of work to do.

Jesus said, "why do you call me "good?" No one is good except the Father."

How do you even know what good is?" Because no one had ever seen or met anyone who was truly good. There had never been a man without sin until that time. Paul is listing the people that have not come to believe on Jesus Christ. Before we believe on Christ, these are the titles we have. However, verse 11 goes on to teach that they are no longer these people because they have been cleansed by Jesus Christ. This DOES NOT mean that they have completely stopped doing ANY of these sins. Believers all around the world struggle with most of these. Paul is pointing out that because they are believers in Christ, God does not see them as these anymore. Now, God sees them as His children. Heirs to the Kingdom of God. Why? Because they have put their belief/faith on His Son Jesus Christ. When the Father looks upon believers, He sees His sons and daughters, NOT sinners. Paul is trying to encourage the brothers and sisters in Christ to put away these desires. Not to earn, maintain, or prove their salvation, but as James points out in James 2, that it will be profitable to the believer and mankind. We should strive to be like Christ, not because it's required, but because we want to. I try to do good and sin less to give thanks for Jesus Christ for what He did for me. I'm not perfect at this. I fail everyday. But, I know I am His, forever.
Remember, Paul expressed his struggle with sin in the book of Romans. His outer man keeps sinning while his inner man hates the sinning. Paul states that he would like to do good but in him is the desire to do bad. He does the bad on which he wishes he could stop doing, and neglects to do the good he wishes he could do. Then thanks Jesus Christ for the promise of one day fully redeeming Paul from the wicked man he is.
John teaches that if we say we are without sin then we make Him a liar.

@@user-br3ou2cs9o I agree with you totally. The Holy Spirit is our helper and guide. And yes, we should ache when we've sinned. I want to simply point out that we will fail at the perfection described in the Bible and to encourage believers to not doubt their salvation. Lots of believers begin to worry they have sinned too much last week, or the day before and have sinned away their salvation. This is an impossible scenario. Christ paid for 100% of your sins... past, present, and future sins. His goal was to remove Hell off the table and He accomplished that by paying that payment for us. He's not going to let us, very imperfect people, screw that up afterwards.
He then goes on to teach us that with that security, strive to be like Him. Not to earn, maintain, or prove your salvation, but to be profitable to yourself and others. Shining bright for Christ by sinning less and increasing your good works will draw people closer to Him. The world will see Christ in you. That's the whole point.

That's a big mistake so many homosexually-oriented people make, is thinking they were born gay and hence identify as gay, and since God hates homosexuality, that must mean God hates them as people. Which is absolutely false. God hates sin, via the act of homosexual fornication, He does not hate people, He never did, and never will. God loves every person. And yet every person in the world is guilty of sinning. Everyone. Only God's gift of Grace (trusting that Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be) alleviates us from his wrath.
The devil wants people to believe we have no choice, and being gay is part of our identity. Which is a flat-out lie, that unfortunately drags so many people farther away from God's desire for them to live their best life. The 10 commandments are not rules that we need to follow in order to appease an almighty overlord. He doesn't need our thanksgiving or worship of Him, or for us to do anything really. Rather the ten commandments strictly serve as a guidebook to all people that will only benefit us in living truly joyful lives. Since every material and worldly thing will never truly comfort us, or sate us, in our fleeting, dying, mortal coils. No matter how many times we have sex, whether hetero, or same-sex, will ease our souls or save us on our deathbed. ONLY Jesus, the risen Christ who conquered death on the cross by being resurrected 3 days later can save us from death and damnation.

I struggled with a similar sin and prayed, participate actively in church, read at least 4chapters daily word plus devotional, pray and SPEAK with God not to justify and say I’m holy but to fill myself with as much of His Spirit as possible. • @AFFL1CTED1

Both are sin, but from what we gather in scripture, it comes down to the attitude and the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). This man's son is an unrepentant sinner. He has an attitude of, "my sin isn't any worse than that of that pastor." In which case, he is correct in that logic, as we have all fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)... Except, he mistakes something very crucial: If the pastor is a true man of God, then he will recognize that he is in sin, confess it to the Lord, and try to do better next time. Whereas the son in this example has no such acknowledgement, but justifies his sin because other people sin; and therefore thinks his sin is of no consequence.

I'm a Christian so this is an honest inquiry. Just wondering do you choose who you're attracted to? For example, do you choose to be attracted and desire the opposite sex and the same sex equally?
Because being a heterosexual in Christianity is usually accepted as that is how I was made. I was made to desire and love the opposite sex. Now you can choose to watch corn and choose to commit adultery but do you have the choice who you desire both male and female equally?
If you don't have a choice then when you hear someone say "I'm homosexual" which is a noun just as if I say "Im heterosexual" do you believe they have a choice as to who they desire?
I am just trying to gauge how Christians think about this topic.

The only time lust isn't a sin is when a husband and their wife lusts after their own spouse. Every other physical attraction is sin, regardless if you have control over it or not. Hence, why we need a savior. But, as you said, what we do with those desires, and also how we rationalize those thoughts, that truly matters.

My only question to you is "Have you made a lifelong commitment to be celibate?"
Your view shows the blatant double standard Christians fail to address.
By removing the covering of marriage given to heterosexuals the only option they leave homosexuals is lifelong celibacy and we have ample history of the damage forced celibacy can do in the Catholic church.
See the lie is that Christians change the conversation from the noun "No you can't control who you are attracted to"
      to the verb
" but you can can control what you do about it."
Then they change the context to corn or adultery. This is the big lie.
marriage is GOD's covering so that in marriage we have the ability to deal with our urges desires, etc with our spouse.
Being a married man and choosing corn over my wife, or adultery over my wife is a sin because I have a wife.
Paul in 1 Cor 7 says if you have uncontrollable urges get married.
So what does this man's son say he's 20 years old do, where he can't control who he is attracted to and who he desires for the rest of his life?
Where does he get intimacy, companionship, and sex from?
I have to wonder if this is what 1 Timothy 4:1-5 is talking about
"Now the (Holy) Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 3 who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.
The only group I can think of in these latter times that forbids marriage are conservative Christians.

You, yourself, have testified that "something in their make up is different." Well, what exactly is it? It's not entirely a secret, but sadly not many come to understand. That's something I've been struggling and trying to point out. Some of the good things people strive for don't have to be aimed at. Some of the good things we have are simply the fruits and results of our labor. One of the simplest examples I can think of is a tournament. The prize and/or trophy is simply a fruit. It is unnecessary to aim at those things. And that brings it back to aiming at the right thing. That's all that's needed. No need to aim at the excess.

I actually feel for his son. As someone who has this exact thing and fell in love with my bestfriend It was something i knew I could never have. What the son is actually asking was missed, he’s asking basically is he not worthy to have love”? In the way that when someone genuinely falls in love with someone, they can marry them. He’s not asking for his sin to be justified, before Christ we are, he’s asking if a pastor who struggles with porn is still a pastor, can he not still be a Christian even though he’s in love with someone of the same gender? I had this exact problem and I’ve cried multiple times out of heartbreak over it, it’s like telling a husband the wife you would want to marry, you cannot have, and the strong feelings of love you have for her are not justified. Just a good for thought before ppl judge this kid. I’ve tried to love women but it’s not harder than a heterosexual woman trying to fall in love with another woman. Anyone who hasn’t lived with this problem for 27 years of their life, I would say I envy you, it’s not something I would wish on my worst enemy, to always have it looked like I have it figured out, to promise pastors and friends I will marry a beautiful Christian woman when my heart is in love with someone else, to have the whole image of a full Christian put together, but I’ve never been good at faking it, I can’t have what my heart craves and it tears me to shreds, I have friends who complain to me about their girl issues that they can’t decide which girl to pick to marry while I kindly just laugh it off and empathise with them whilst I have completely no idea what it feels like to be even remotely attracted to a girl yet alone in love since they don’t know. But I have to press on, I have to be the good Christian everyone expects me to be, these feelings have to be kept hidden, otherwise if I play the white picket fence false Christian life I’ll be tricking my potential wife and someone’s daughter into loving someone they think is in love with them when really I would be pretending to be and using them to cover up the fact that I don’t want my church to know I have these feelings I was born with. And no, it doesn’t suddenly dissapear because I was born again, I’ve heard that statement one too many times now. I want the real Christianity, the honest truth, the rawness, and the raw truth is that, I am someone who has fallen in love with my friend and I need either grace or judgement. If there is no law against the love that I have but against the sex that I have then I’ll take the love over sex any day. But if I also can’t love freely then I’m damned to not be worthy enough like most of these guys who have a loving relationship that isn’t founded on sex but love alone…. It’s a conundrum at times but hey, Christianity isn’t without suffering right

Most of human love is disordered, doing what is either unlawful or profane. And so I say those who’s love is disordered the truth is our desire for closeness with another human, man or woman, is actually a desire for closeness with God. It’s human, possibly even diabolic, to believe that closeness with God is not what you truly desire. Is it that your love cannot be returned? Then be with The Heart that has so loved man and received nothing in return. Has He not loved you? Through beatings, profanities and death he has loved you!

Hey man, I feel you. I was once in your shoes also, so I can empathize with the struggle. I was raised in a Christian home so I couldn't tell anyone of my inclinations, plus we are Nigerian and I've seen what they do such people here. I tried everything to stop but failed miserably. I tried using will power, threats, self-torture and a whole lot of other things. I had a whole host of issues aside this so it wasn't fun at all. The truth is, the more I tried, the more I failed. But, I remember hearing a sermon where the pastor pretty much talked about porn (which I also struggled with), and other addictions and how to break free from them. I thought he was crazy when he said to stop trying and rely solely on God's grace. He said that the more you rely on your self effort and will power, the more you'll fail. Instead trust on God's grace to make you whole inside out. We can put on a facade on our outside, but it won't change who we are - or rather who we perceive ourselves to be. Best to trust our Lord Jesus, who loved us to death to change us from the inside out.
I put this to the test and strangely enough it worked. All I did was confess that "I am the righteousness of God in Christ" whenever I had those desires, and even while watching porn and to my surprise, over time those desires faded away. It felt impossible, like magic, but it happened. Rather than pretending not to be attracted to the same sex, I genuinely have no interest anymore. I dream about having a wife, kids, and building a loving family. Even when the thoughts come again, I proclaim who I am in Christ. I am not a closet homosexual. I am who God made me to be.
The world tells us to accept these lying thoughts and declare them as our identity. Grace tells us to proclaim our identity in Christ. I can't imagine what its like to live your life, but trust me when I say that Christ's finished work is all you need. Self effort can only take you so far. Grace will take you all the way.

Why do only straight people get to have the happy ending with the love of their life? Would it also be fair to tell them if they care so much why don’t they give up their love of their life too if they wish to show me it’s that easy. Ty for sharing. I too saw the overlooked point of the young man asking his dad those questions.
As to your struggle, I share it from a heterosexual perspective. Meaning I used to live a very promiscuous life and now that I’m married I still struggle regularly with aldulterous desires. I’ve wondered why those desires aren’t “cured “ in Christ. The truth is that I’m this life we will suffer through temptations among other things. As a Christian we must rely on Gods grace to give us the power to resist those temptations. This is the refining fire that God used to cleanse and strengthen us. So fight on! Where people get the gospel wrong is that they think they need to do the good things that pleases God. That’s performance Christianity and misunderstands the gospel. When you truly apprehend the gospel it will be the thing that produces good works in you. Share your sin with your brothers and sisters even if they don’t handle it right. The Bible tells us to do this. It will help set you free.

Many people buy into the lie that they are born that way, the lie that the Lord's saving love is unconditional, and the lie that once we have truly received a new nature with Christ that our disposition towards our sins and the sins of others won't radically change. No pick up your cross every day and follow me to Calvary so they can die, and you can be resurrected with Me but without them. More like, skip the cross and go straight to the resurrection because we want the joy without the journey through the pain of the cross.
We also buy the lie that all judgement is bad and we shouldn't do it or accept it, and for many that includes rejecting the judgements against their sins from the Lord's word or from others in the church (even though such judgement is required from us in places like 1 Corinthians 5 and Matthew 18). So, we prefer the sweet sounding lies instead of the real truth and in doing so we follow a gentle (by the world's definition, not God's which is strength under control) and generic Jesus of our own making. Sin is risking harm for fleeting moments of pleasure like you don't have forever to enjoy yourself now before you go without and suffer anguish for loosing all the things you love. Ask the doctors. They'll tell you that anal sex can cause sever infections for both gay and straight couples no matter how healthy they are. If you get excrement in your urethra, you can get a urinary tract infection or even a bladder infection that might kill you if untreated. This has nothing to do with patriarchy or tradition. It has to do with sanitation. And it is true for both gay and straight couples.
Swimming in a lake is fine. But if it were contaminated with bacteria, would the state allow you to swim in that lake, even if you knew the risks and wanted to swim there anyway? I don't think so. They would haul you away to have your head examined. Anal sex is obviously unsanitary. And putting your mouth on someone else's defecating parts is also obviously unsanitary for any couples, gay or straight.

I disagree that our purpose in life is to know God and make Him known.. those are wonderful by products. The purpose is to love the Lord with all our heart mind soul and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. If we do that we will know God and make him known. But it starts with the greatest commandment. And love for God means we don't tolerate or accept sin first in our own lives and because we love others and know that sin produces death in them, we don't tolerate or accept it in theirs either.

To me this is pretty subjective. I am not of the persuasion that homosexuality is an automatic death sentence as far as morals . I think it’s the lifestyle that is likely when dealing in homosexuality many times it’s a hedonistic, often times more mental instability. Let’s also not forget the fact that there is no natural reproduction within a homosexual relationship so there is no natural flourishing or growth. Even with all that said I do believe there are a few homosexual relationships which are well adjusted and not idol seeking which is not harmful.. I just feel like those relationships are the oddity not the norm. As an antidote all the homosexuals I know were either sexually abused as children or are suffering from some other serious idol worship spiritual warfare, so usually the sexual preference is a byproduct of something else.

There are so many people that like to twist the scripture so that it makes their sin not so bad or turns their sin into a virtue. When you plainly read it with an open and honest heart you will clearly see that same-sex relationships in any way shape or form is not what God designed for men and women. If the father's son understood justice, he would more than likely understand his need for grace. If he accepted that grace, he could understand what "good moral behavior" is, because the heart change would have already begun, and for the first time ever there would actually be power to change. Plus, like for the heterosexual, he would recognize that no matter how much he changes for the better, he would still need grace.

What they got to half way through is really important. The 10 commandments help make really clear EXACTLY how we're guilty before God. They were given not only to light the way to live in God's kingdom, but first to shine a light on our sin. Revelation declares that all liars will be cast into the lake of fire. Every sinner has lied without exception. So everyone's condemned just on that count. James says that if we e broken one of the commands we're guilty of breaking the WHOLE law..the pieces of the law are not disjointed separate elements. The all are written aspects of the same one whole thing: God's holy nature. We personally violate and rebel against Him when in His Holiness whenever we sin. Helping people understand THAT, regardless of their particular sinful proclivities or religious or cultural background, is a primary pre-evangelistic objective because it makes the gospel make sense.

God's grace is the foundation for a Christian's life, and living as a person after God's heart is the superstructure.
That being said, I think that I understand the gist of this young man's question... most moral aspects of the Christian life exist for a good reason: they either illustrate love for God or love for neighbors. But the only reason we can come up with for why God doesn't permit homosexuality is basically "He just doesn't", which is like a parent telling their child "because I said so", imposing authority instead of giving an explanation.
