Odd complaint that the title made you only concentrate on the scenes with Betelgeuse and ignore the story that was actually being told, when the movie clearly establishes the Maitlands as the main characters from the start. It feels like watching Jurassic Park and only caring about the scenes with fences and trees or complaining about the lack of angry livestock in Raging Bull.
The Day Oh wasn't Betelgeuse, it was the Maitlands.

So this movie wasn't really marketed towards kids. The marrying a child thing, the snake, the brothel, the grabbing women, etc. was not kid-friendly. What happened is that they released an animated tv show in 1989 called Beetlejuice. It followed Lydia Deetz and her ghost BFF Beetlejuice getting up to harmless shenanigans and being gross with boogers and bug eating. Great show, I loved it as a kid. I thought the movie was kind of meh compared to the show- but I was 8-10yrs old at the time. Then because of that I think as kids grew up the nostalgia of the show and movie sort of overlapped? Or it just got cult following like other campy stuff does. I saw Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue at Universal twice (2 different shows, don't remember what it was actually named at each time I think it changed like 4 times) and it was good fun.
I am hesitantly optimistic about the sequel coming out.
That's funny hearing stuff about the sequel and stuff they hinted at in this like beetle juice said in this they're gone afterlife moved on and they're no where in stuff for sequel I thought of this line think it's been basically confirmed by Mr h video lol

They did make an animated TV series based on this and it does focus on Beetlejuice and Lydia completely. In it, Beetlejuice isn't quite as sinister and he and Lydia are just friends, but otherwise, he's just as wacky and unpredictable. So if you want to see more of just Beetlejuice, go find episodes of that cartoon series.
I'm looking forward to the Beetlejuice sequel that's being made. Several main actors are coming back to play their iconic roles.

21:57 - I never understood this scene. Why would they think this is a good idea to scare off the Dietzes? It didn't work when they did this earlier in the movie. Also, a movie mistake. Charles Dietz can't see the ghosts but he could hear their moans under the bedsheets?
Maybe they got better at making themselves heard at least. Although the rulebook said the living "usually won't" see the dead, as in they refuse to believe in the supernatural.
