Brazil has the largest Japanese community outside of Japan.
One of my Japanese friends was telling me that at least among her friends, they don't really care where someone is from as long as they're a decent person and actually have goals and ambitions and put effort into learning the culture. Not surprised Korea was number one though
I don't think there is a decent person in Korea. They are the opposite of decent.
I’m actually a little bit surprised, considering how S.Korea still has a noticeable anti-Japanese sentiment in their society.
@@TheMan21892 I think Japanese young people are illiterate so this will happen also divorce is high as a result with them anti-japanese. Older Japanese people are more knowledgeable about these political issues and doesn't want connection with anti-japanese racist Korea.
Also here most are Zainichi Koreans or 3rd generation Koreans living in Japan in this statistics.

@@TheMan21892 I've had middle aged Japanese talk to me about how Japan was justified in occupying Korea before WWII and that Japan was not complicit in comfort women atrocities. They framed it as if Japan saved Korea from extreme poverty as it had little to no culture or people with any ambition before they occupied and made it better. It struck me as pretty extreme, so there might be still a strong nationalistic narrative on Japan side.

I checked again on which us actually closer to Japan: Hawai'i or Alaska. Sure enough, as I thought, Attu Island, the westernmost island of the Near Islands of Alaska is much closer to Japan than Hawai'i. Attu Island is has also been uninhabited since World War II when the US retook it from the Japanese invasion of various Pacific islands during the war. I learned something new. 😎

I’m 4th generation Japanese-American from Hawaii. Although it may be anecdotal and not based on data, there seems to be a lot of Japanese girls settling down and marrying local guys. They are called “shin-issei” and make up a new wave of immigration.
Many originally come on student visas to study English. My brother married Nihonjin and have a nice family. My sister in law says Japanese people generally feel more comfortable in Hawaii (compared to continental US) because of the large number of Japanese-Asian-pacific Islander people that share similar culture and values.
Even though I am 4 generations removed and cannot speak Japanese fluently, I still am heavily influenced by Japanese culture.

2021 was the pandemic year, so this could be a reason why the number is low, people just couldn’t come over and meet people and marry. Heck, my brother met a Japanese girl online and they have this long distance relationship for like 3 years and they will meet in person for the first time on 11 October (yes, the date of opening)..

Would be interesting to know, what the divorce rates are with mixed couples from these countries. I once saw a statistic that japanese married to someone from UK or the US have a lower divorce rate than japanese married to japanese. Highest divorce rate was with a partner from the Philippines, when I remember it correctly.

Our culture ain't feminist, like how people just assume the majority fall under left leaning or liberal in America, when it's a lot more split than that. Although we're not as good as Japan as staying traditional but there's still quite a few left.

Yea but even most of the guys that lean right politically don't believe their women should cook and clean at the house and believe in absolute privacy when it comes to each other's phones and freedom to leave the house at whatever time with no reason and come back whenever. A country that is truly not feminist is easy to spot by how traditional the women are expected to act, Latin America is where the only traditional or masculine countries in the west can be found. Therefore yes the USA and Canada are both EXTREMELY FEMINIST.

Interesting. Japanese ministry of health labour and welfare had Filipino grooms - Japanese brides as the fourth biggest parings at 265 marriages in 2019, more than UK's 233, but not as much as Korea, USA, China, and Brazil. Where did you get your 2021 stats if you dont mind me asking?
This is interesting I would have thought Australia would have been high on the list. When talking with friends about different nationality women Japanese women are very popular. It could just be Australian men like Japanese women more then Japanese women like Australian men.
Hmm, so Japanese women and men have in common that they choose partners from Korea, China and Brazil. But where the men tend to choose an Asian partner (Philippines and Thailand), the women opt for a partner from an English speaking country (UK and US).
So how about the divorce rates for foreign partners and the reason for divorce?
I've met many of these couples as an ESL tutor and they tend to be high because Japanese people find it hard to eventually relocate, so they keep going back and forth until it stops working. If the foreign partner wants to live in Japan, then it usually works out, if the cultural stuff is understood properly. I find a nagging Japanese housewife asking me for my paycheck quite funny.
@@Brukner841 I guess the succes of a marriage with a foreign partner depends on the ability to adapt to change and to be open minded from both sides. If you expect a foreign partner to totally integrate into your own culture and not take anything from their culture, the relationship is bound to fail. And I guess a relationship won’t work if the partner isn’t financially independent or has an income of her/himself.

Good observation. I am thinking it is because western women are less compatible with Japanese men. Also, Japanese men likely steer to fellow Asian woman (Philippines and Thailand), due to similar cultures and ideals on family etc.. Whereas Japanese women are more compatible with western men and vice verse. Just an educated guess, no statistical data to back this up.

Your country or hers? But if a bumbling idiot like me can succeed, you certainly can! Idiot I was (and still am) but I so wanted my little Asian honey I had an ironclad determination. And I was always a dope who gave up easily on so many things. Low self-confidence I had plenty. But on this one thing in life, seemingly unattainable, I KNEW I was going to be married to an Asian girl. Throughout our marriage we've had problems to overcome, but I love her so much I, even I, found ways to fight and win! It may take as much as a few years but you can do it! Never give up!

I feel like even though I live in California, you see more Asian guys with with either other Asian women or if it's not Asian then usually Hispanic women and sometimes black women too. I don't usually see white women with Asian guys though, it's usually the opposite.
