This was one of Gennady's toughest fights that you don't often hear about. He was tested by Kassim Ouma and emerged victorious after a grueling battle; both boxers were relentless but Golovkin had an engine. He pushed forward and although he took many punches to the head, his power was more noticeable and effective, often returning fire -- he did a number on his opponent with the right hand, consistently tagging Kassim to the head; and as well with a variety of punches aimed for the body. Ouma was in trouble, especially when caught against the ropes where Gennady would do the most damage, and rip to his sides with vicious left and right hooks, as well as uppercuts. By the tenth round, Kassim was thoroughly weakened and Gennady finished the fight with devastating right hooks and uppercuts; this was an exciting fight between two highly competitive combatants, often unspoken by fans.

Just for the heck of it I started counting punches landed by Ouma in the 4th round. I began after almost half the round was over and in the remaining 90 seconds or so he landed 38 punches. I was counting conservatively, the actual number could have been a few higher. Now I feel compelled to go back and count again but the whole round this time. It's possible that he landed 50 or more in that round, an amazing feat if he did. I'd watched this fight once before and I was really impressed with Ouma. At this point in his career, GGG was winning his fights pretty easily and we know what he did as his career progressed. Even now after so many more fights this kid Ouma still gave GGG one of his toughest battles. GGG was missing a ton of punches beginning in the 4th round and that continued for the next several rounds. Ouma had GGG frustrated and turning up the heat but Ouma kept landing shots. It was a great fight overall but Ouma was hurt bad before it was over. I checked his record and he quit fighting for 2 1/2 years after this fight. He came back after that but has been losing most of his fights and at 41 he's still fighting. I haven't heard him speak but I really fear that he suffered long term damage in the last couple of rounds. Taking off more then 2 years means he was beaten severely unless he was ready to retire anyway, but since he decided to return I would wager that he needed that much time off to heal and to recover. I didn't know Golovkin fought Kassim Ouma. I always wondered what happened to him. Ouma was a hell of a fighter...i haven't seen much of him since his loss to Jermaine Taylor.
I'm a huge fan of GGG. He was getting outboxed more than I've ever seen. The only thing saving him was his chin and sheer force he started to put on his opponent. If it wasn't for his power and constant pressure in le later rounds, I think he would've lost via decision. With that being said, his power and chin came in clutch for this fight🥊
Golovkin looks like a light middleweight right here. He should have started his career lower so people wouldn't bitch about him not moving up in weight.
Ggg wouldn't cut much weight.. At middle weight, he would cut only 4 kilos... He was much smaller than even some welterweights... But his power and chin were cruiserweight tier
+PhillyPhan His chin was tested with Stevens who tagged him a few times, Golovkin not wavering at all. His chin is something else, Stevens is a big puncher.
captain koolkat He was tagged but most of those were weak jabs. Canelo has just as much power as Stevens and a lot more overall skill/speed. GGG should beat Canelo but it won't be as easy as Lemieux.
+PhillyPhan Golovkin gets tagged on purpose. He's gauging power like a true counter puncher. Canelo's power hasn't really been a factor in his latest (bigger name) fights. If Canelo couldn't knock out Cotto than I highly doubt he can knock down GGG.
kassim is tough as nails he took one hell of a beating much respect to this young man...GGG has an iron head he took a million shots and kept pushing forward like he enjoyed getting hit!
Nothing wrong with Kassim Oum, he fought a good fight and landed plenty of punches, as the man said they will remember this day and won't like a repeat of this fight.
Actually I think, in some ways, he was tougher then. Its just that Oum was a great boxer himself and gave him a better fight then most other guys he faced, thus GGG didn't look as good. I think it was around 2012 so GGG would have been around 30, close to "prime" age in the career of a boxer.
This fight shows what the primary ggg gift is: resistance, tenacity not power. Yes he has a lot of power but what he has most is the endurance. Not all his fights ended by ko but he never been down. He might’ve not clearly won all the fights (Canelo2) but nobody has defended him (canelo did not win that 2nd fight either) Beterbiev has incredible power but he went down a couple of times…. GGG never
Gennady had a Visa problem and his team didn't get there (Panama) until like two days before the fight. He didn't even have time to shave :) Jet lag can make any good athlete perform sub par. One of Abel Sanchez's interview talked about this. With no time to properly prepare, Gennady couldn't even feel his arms before the fight due to being so tired, why you see he isn't as sharp. Not only that, this was still the earlier fights after he just joined Abel's gym. Not bad for someone in this situation and was able to muster out a win. It's those quick uppercuts and body shots that really worn down Ouma (dude can that shots too).
Copy and paste? Look at the time stamp, I posted this 8 months ago, paraphrased straight from Abel's mouth, it was in one of his interviews. The only one delusional is you, your username, and all your respond in this comment section. Lara? See what Angulo did to him? Lara doing the one-two moving backward is tailored made for GGG, he wants you to run! GGG would cut off the ring, stalk Lara, time Lara's one-twos, break Lara down slowly or he can just do what he did to Wade. Resume is only half the equation, the other being SKILL SET. You look at what the guys bring to the table and then weight on who would win on what (hence the subjective of predicting a fight, people see things differently; until we have hardcore science in boxing, crunch all them numbers) Heck, skill set is even more important in the overall equation, your record doesn't help you're in there with another guy. I just don't see anything in Lara's arsenal that would give GGG much of a problem. Lara outbox? Kind of vague isn't it? Give me details of exactly how he would win against GGG.
One of the reasons Ouma lasted so long was because he wasn't on the ropes early in the fight. He stayed in the middle of the ring. He also has a solid chin, and isn't mentally weak like most guys who fight GGG. I'm sure he was felling the shots, but he didn't mentally fold at the 1st sign of pain. GGG also feels shots he takes, but he isn't mentally weak either and sticks to his game plan. This is probably the highest caliber opponent he's faced to date. Ouma would've beaten most of GGG's current opponents in his prime. He didn't have great power, but was always a solid guy and showed it in this fight. Plus he was a southpaw.
that because GGGs style is like Joe Frazier! hiding his head in the other mans chest, away from the pain, if he'd stayed in the middle of the ring, he was a gonna.
I counted 68 punches landed for Ouma in the 6th round, previously I counted 62 for Ouma in the 4th round. I'm going to check if there are full fight punches landed totals somewhere, in just those 2 rounds I counted 130 landed punches by Ouma. GGG landed a lot as well and his were harder shots, but I think Ouma landed more by nearly a 2 to 1 margin. Incredible by both guys.
Wow! I counted the entire 4th round and I came up with 62 punches landed by Ouma. Many were not so hard punches to the body but more then half were decent short punches to the head. I'm tempted to count them again because 62 is a huge number. GGG landed some himself and his were harder for sure but he lost that round IMO.
According to Kovalev words: "GGG was sick that day, he had acclimatization troubles. Any other boxer wouldn't be able to stand above 3 rounds in such conditions that GGG was (acclimatization)".
WoW! now that was fight! Kassim no doubt gave GG his toughest challenge!! GGG is a freak of nature, I don't onyone beating him! I think Jacobs is i big trouble! MaN!!
kassim hits him so much because of his size and speed. Rosario was able to land a lot on him as well as Willie Monroe. They all have quick hands. They just can't hot very hard.
Oum was hangin with him in the beginning, he just threw everything he had too soon. But it's probably tough to acknowledge when a guy can eat your hardest punches for rounds and not even lose his footing. They both did really good tho, I thought. GGG is like the terminator or some shit!
What kind of milk do they drink in Russia, where it enables you to relentlessly pursue your opponent from start of the round to finish, throwing the same velocity & punching power, while taking multiple head shots endlessly? Either Oum hits like a 5yr old girl, or Golovkin's head is made of Titanium.
Gary Ho Close enough, used to be former Soviet Union, but I personally don't give a fuck, I know where Mexico is, and I know Canelo Alvarez is from there, to knock gg's ass back to Kazakhstan, so fuck you and the world, a last name like Ho, talking shit LMAO. ...
Gary Ho No I still want the brand, & product of that milk, supplement ggg is taking, so I can fuck my wife 24 hrs straight without stopping, Kazakhstan secret, i'll find out soon.
Davie Daniels I agree, he hit 3g so many times. Kassim took punishment only because he did not hold. - man don't be afraid to hold, -every smart fighter does. Kassim could have been the one to surprise 3g. Next time hold, if need to hold until you can regain boxing distance and balance.
Triple G used his head in this fight, bumping Ouma around a bit by leading with his head. After the fight was over, at 41:48 GGG landed another head butt when they greeted each other. I counted Ouma's punches landed from the 4th round until the end. I knew he put up a good fight and was landing a lot of punches, albeit they weren't heavy shots. In the 6 1/2 rounds from the 4th until the end, Ouma landed an astonishing 309 punches. I didn't count GGG's landed punches but his were much heavier and I would guess that he landed 200 to 250 in those same 6.5 rounds.
He looks so much like "El gran campeon" Julio Cesar Chavez, relentless, knows how to infight, most fighter nowdays have no idea what that is, they just punch and feint
As a GGG fan, I have to admit that was a tough fight. However, it shouldn't be used as material to discuss any problems he might have in the future. Although his style in this fight is not as polished as it is now, he also looked very sloppy and at times tired. Ouma was also very game and not afraid to mix it up while proving a tough target to pin down. I had GGG barely winning the fight before the stoppage. Many people would probably say Ouma dominated this fight, but that's just being ignorant. For every flurry he nailed GGG with, GGG returned fire with flush hooks, uppercuts and right hands that actually appeared more damaging than Ouma's offense. Ouma took some damage. It wasn't a one-sided schooling until the stoppage. GGG is much more methodical and precise now. Had the current version of him fought that version of Ouma, I imagine Ouma would still land some good shots and surprise people, but GGG would have been a lot more accurate with his punching and would have hurt Ouma much earlier. One interesting note from this fight though, and this is something fundamental. In general, to beat GGG, you have to back him up or stand in front of him and punch with him while making him miss. While he's a very skilled puncher, he doesn't possess blistering hand speed. You can win exchanges with him if you're smart. The current version of GGG is also not all that easy to hit cleanly if you let him execute his gameplan. He uses a mix of throwaway punches, slipping, angles and rolls/deflections to reduce return fire while stalking opponents. If you let him come to you, you're not going to be very successful. He's just going to set you up, and it will only be a matter of time. However, I've noticed a sort of weakness in his upper body movement. He's easier to hit and frustrate when you take the fight to him and don't give him the angles he wants. Other words, he doesn't seem as good a reactive fighter as he is a proactive fighter.
Golovkin vs Jacobs: I got Golovkin within 8 rounds, but I'm being generous to Jacobs. I really think he'll stop Jacobs within 4. Jacobs got a few defensive flaws that are just perfect for GGG. He's a hard and explosive puncher, I'll give him that, but he's not really that skilled of an overall boxer. However, I don't rule out an upset because GGG could get careless. GGG vs Canelo. I want to say GGG stops him late, like round 10-12, but I don't know. Canelo is a tough guy and a crafty fighter. Given his reputation and everything, he doesn't seem like the type of the fighter that will cower down early against anyone. Stylistically, though, I give GGG the upper hand. Lot of folks are saying Canelo would give GGG a hell of a fight and some even think he would beat him easy, but they don't know what they're talking about. There are a few key holes in his style that will help GGG a lot. One of them is the footwork. GGG won't fight Canelo like everyone thinks he will.
yranaivo1 I think Golovkin beats Canelo pretty easy. Canelo just doesn't have the gas tank or the power (yes) to keep Golovkin off of him... I see Jacobs as the more dangerous fight because DJ has that one punch ko power, tho I don't think it will be enough to finish ggg off. However the way he jumps on his foe after he has him hurt is impressive. Reminds me of the great Trinidad in that regard... When you said Jacobs has the defensive holes/flaws... can you elaborate?
Yeah, Jacobs is a more dangerous fight because of the power factor. Although I think Brook was tougher from a stylistic standpoint, Jacobs has the ability to change the fight if GGG gets careless. As far as flaws, the first one is Jacbos' footwork. He doesn't possess the movement to maneuver GGG. He'll get cornered easily. That's already one bad drawback. His head and upper body movement is also not that crafty, so he'll offer up a decent target for GGG. Then the one thing that I personally think will lead to the KO itself is Jacobs' guard. Jacobs has a horrible habit of dropping his gloves when moving, but worst when punching. It occurred against Mora. It also occurred against Quillin, but that fight was so short it's hard to really say how much of a problem that became. Those three weaknesses were also put on the table against Pirog. That's a really bad weakness to have against GGG because GGG is in reality a counter puncher. He's not a simple come forward, aggressive puncher like everyone says. He's a stalking counter puncher, which is why you always see him steadily stalking his opponents and not just rush forward. He's either looking for openings and mistakes or is trying to create them. Watch all of his fights and you'll notice that he almost always hits the opponent while they get lazy with their guard or while they're punching or about to throw a punch. He also uses feints and throaway punches (like Ward and Lomachenko) to force the opponent to react or counter and open themselves, which he then exploits. Even when his opponents try to move away, he'll use his footwork to stay in front of them and then throws a hook to the body to freeze them. GGG's biggest skill is that he capitalizes on little mistakes.
+Tim Garcia I know he was tired, problems with Visa and did not have time to shave. He will be in top shape against Canelo, granted, but this fight more than anything has shown how vulnerable he is. I am not saying Canelo will beat him though. Both have the power, the smarter fighter will prevail in this one.
+Fahmi Natour This was 5 years ago, you can see he's a much better fighter now. Canelo has not got much power, his KO rate is not great even though 35 of his 48 opponents weighed 149 or less. An iron-chinned 160 lb fighter like Golovkin won't be bothered by Canelo's punches. That's why Canelo is trying to get him to go to 155 so that he'll be weak at the weight,GGG hasn't weighed less than 158 in 10 years as a pro.
Golovkin's defense sure has improved since this fight. He was eating a lot of leather. I guess he got the memo that your face is not part of your defensive toolkit. He also hits harder now, bc this dude did not seem to respect his power the way you see in GGG's fights today.
in this fight he was so focused on fighting on the inside as well, imo he does better defensively when he has his opponents just on the end on his punches like vs willie monroe..
thats what he does now compared to here, he walks them down a corners them with his footwork but he throws his punches from the outside of the reach rather than here where he is leaning in with his head down etc.
That was incredible. 39:00 for the knock-out and last 30 seconds of the fight. Then the bowing thing that GGG always does at the end of his fight at 39:38 is strange. In this fight he only does it in one direction. These days he bows to all four sides of the ring. It is like he is on his own or surrounded by imaginary fans. He does it even when the crowd does not like him. I think that in his imagination he supported by the whole world and this bowing thing helps him to keep that sort of positivity going. The New Yorker calls it a "dainty, ballet-inspired bow to the crowd after he wins.” If it helps him to fight like this, I'm in.
timtak1 incorrect. He always bows every way, but here Abel his trainer Interrupted him wih a hug. If you would've stayed to watch the rest you would've seen he went back and "saluted" the crowd. He is bowing and thanking them for coming to watch him... No imaginary bullshit no nothing. He's said that even if there was only one guy in the stands, he'd now to them in appreciation...
Thanks yes. He does go back to bow to the other three sides, as he does in every fight. Where does he talk about this bowing? On CZcams or to you personally? ANthony Joshua seems to do something similar.
In the 4th,5th and 6th rounds combined I got 192 punches landed for Ouma, I wonder if that's some kind of a record? I just counted 62 punches landed for Ouma in the 5th round, 62 in the 4th and 68 in the 6th round.

Golovkin has power, chin and stamina. Pretty dangerous combination.
This guy Oum may have given Golovkin his greatest challenge. He certainly connected a lot in the first half of the fight.
Э
Геннадий это хороший боец!!!🙏
wow, what a fight, good work from both sides, very intense
Kassim showed some real balls how was he still standing
Kassim ouna actually gave golovkin a lesson here...Golovkins will and fight iq helped here..
I'm a huge fan of GGG. He was getting outboxed more than I've ever seen. The only thing saving him was his chin and sheer force he started to put on his opponent.
If it wasn't for his power and constant pressure in le later rounds, I think he would've lost via decision. With that being said, his power and chin came in clutch for this fight🥊
andy elliot.I agree you presented good analysis and sound conclusion. Thanks.
Most head shots I've ever seen golovkin take.
GGG was sick that night. He won with his street fight experience and true grit
He wasn't sick. He was running on few hours of sleep because he had visa issues and spent 2 days in the airport
Oum was one tough cookie. He took some thunderous shots and all credit to him he didn't go down and he didn't quit.
This Ouma is a solid fighter
Браво земляк
Harika mücadele oldu , her iki boksörü de tebrik ederim
that song after first round tho, weyyz, trinidad reppin!
Too many uppercuts by GGG, left him open for some shots. Still proved he can brawl.
+PhillyPhan This fight proves he has a chin like a solid rock, which was what saved him in this fight.
Alberto Macstaire True, but GGG still has an above-average chin for a middleweight. His chin will be tested for real though if he fights Canelo.
Que aguante de golovkin
Anyone 2019??????????? wow GGG has improved so much since then
He still has a few good fights in him.
Actually I think, in some ways, he was tougher then. Its just that Oum was a great boxer himself and gave him a better fight then most other guys he faced, thus GGG didn't look as good. I think it was around 2012 so GGG would have been around 30, close to "prime" age in the career of a boxer.
Boxing is beautiful
Гена супер красава показал характер наверное задумка была на ближней бой
This fight shows what the primary ggg gift is: resistance, tenacity not power. Yes he has a lot of power but what he has most is the endurance. Not all his fights ended by ko but he never been down. He might’ve not clearly won all the fights (Canelo2) but nobody has defended him (canelo did not win that 2nd fight either)
Beterbiev has incredible power but he went down a couple of times…. GGG never
Gennady had a Visa problem and his team didn't get there (Panama) until like two days before the fight.
But Ouma wasn't in shape too.I wish GGG faced a prime ouma of 2003,2004
As a Uganda, Kassim ouma, John "the beast" mugabi, ayub kalule, made me so proud
Plus he was a southpaw.
o
that because GGGs style is like Joe Frazier! hiding his head in the other mans chest, away from the pain, if he'd stayed in the middle of the ring, he was a gonna.
Ouma was always a journeyman. solid fighter with a great chin but nothing special.
Daim I really liked this
Golovkin have really improved in recemt times
+Gary Ho No he hasn't
+PRICHARD THE MOST ELIGIBLE BBC KNOWN TO WOMAN (TO LUST OR NOT TO LUST) lol sure, if u say so 😊
+Gary Ho What quality of opponents has he fought where you can show me his improvements?LOL
The quality of opponents where black fighters keep ducking him coz they don't want none of that
PRICHARD THE MOST ELIGIBLE BBC KNOWN TO WOMAN ouma is a quality fighter heart iron chin wtf u mean
Kaisar Zharokov always an excuse
Good luck on september 16th)
And Canelo beat GGG
@@saulcaneloalvarez7524 shup up clenelo bitch ass
true boxing fight.
Good fight
what a great fighting
puma got good skill for sure
G is basically losing and eating a ton of pittynpats until,he finally gets his power into the match
You're are seeing the best middleweight since Marvin Hagler. Fine fight.
Have no idea why Gennady is trying to fight on the inside with a slickster? Ouma really gave him a boxing lesson in first half of the fight.
Без вас неможем
WoW! now that was fight! Kassim no doubt gave GG his toughest challenge!! GGG is a freak of nature, I don't onyone beating him! I think Jacobs is i big trouble! MaN!!
Am from the country that Kassim is from and am not even mad. Triple G is a monster.
kassim hits him so much because of his size and speed.
GGG is like the terminator or some shit!
хороши бои
Inside control by GGG won the day. He tried to show Sulllivan Barrera the same thing, though only works on taller guys.
+Juan Hernandez You're delusional .
u see the fans on the back ground drinking 🍺 🍻🍸wow!!!
Гена.красавчик
What kind of milk do they drink in Russia, where it enables you to relentlessly pursue your opponent from start of the round to finish, throwing the same velocity & punching power, while taking multiple head shots endlessly? Either Oum hits like a 5yr old girl, or Golovkin's head is made of Titanium.
he's a Kazakh not Russian.. Get with the world
Gary Ho Close enough, used to be former Soviet Union, but I personally don't give a fuck, I know where Mexico is, and I know Canelo Alvarez is from there, to knock gg's ass back to Kazakhstan, so fuck you and the world, a last name like Ho, talking shit LMAO. ...
+BIONIK DIKK You've just learnt something new, I'm happy for u 😊
Gary Ho No I still want the brand, & product of that milk, supplement ggg is taking, so I can fuck my wife 24 hrs straight without stopping, Kazakhstan secret, i'll find out soon.
+BIONIK DIKK you sure do kiss ass. It's cringey
Kassim is always a good fighter
Davie Daniels I agree, he hit 3g so many times. Kassim took punishment only because he did not hold. - man don't be afraid to hold, -every smart fighter does. Kassim could have been the one to surprise 3g. Next time hold, if need to hold until you can regain boxing distance and balance.
süper maç
I love the audience..😂😂😂
Este kassin oum que trabajo le dio a golovkin un verdadero kamikase del ring. Creo que es el que más le ha aguantado a golovkin..
Adama le dio gran trabajo ganarle..
If he had this speed plus the power he possesses now he would be dangerous for any Middle weight
My favorite GGG fight...phone booth war

Other words, he doesn't seem as good a reactive fighter as he is a proactive fighter.
yranaivo1 Golovkin vs Jacobs and Golovkin vs Canelo. who do you have in those fights?
GGG's biggest skill is that he capitalizes on little mistakes.
yranaivo1 Awesome observation bro
Перелёт, температура повлияли на Гену, но взял и разобрал негра, талант не подвёл:-)
+Adil Aktai Только не негра, а черного.

That's some chin on Kassim.
you can see how much adding the jab to ggg fighting style has helped him he looks like a total diff fighter now
+Brandon Fulford He looks different because his competition is weaker.
+PRICHARD THE MOST ELIGIBLE BBC KNOWN TO WOMAN (TO LUST OR NOT TO LUST) no he looks different because he has gotten better with experience DUMBASS.
CrazyColin He looks like the same shitty fighter just fighting bums.
CrazyColin oh realy I thought I just said that his experience and sanchez perfecting the jab and body work
GGG is a fine wine
Fun fact, Golovkin was sick of flu for this fight.
He’s always Sick everytime he has a tough fight 😂😂😂
I hope Canelo is watching.
+Marchstick are you stupid or something??? this was the worst GGG EVER!!!
+Tim Garcia this fight shows why golovkin ducked ward, and how easy it would be for ward.
+andy elliott He looks different because his competition is weaker.
Golovkin Bravo
Golovkin's defense sure has improved since this fight. He was eating a lot of leather. I guess he got the memo that your face is not part of your defensive toolkit. He also hits harder now, bc this dude did not seem to respect his power the way you see in GGG's fights today.
Kassim the chin Ouma has skill and amazing heart
strong vs strong bravo golovkin
оба раздербанены по полной
ggg got hit too much. mayybe abel sanchez just started with him then. his d is much better now
in this fight he was so focused on fighting on the inside as well, imo he does better defensively when he has his opponents just on the end on his punches like vs willie monroe..
good point.
thats what he does now compared to here, he walks them down a corners them with his footwork but he throws his punches from the outside of the reach rather than here where he is leaning in with his head down etc.
He was hit so much because of Abel Sanchez. Before him he was more of a boxer and still had KO's. He'd be even better if he never met Sanchez.
Need to give credit to his opponent as well. Kasim Ouma was a great boxer himself....very quick!
Kemenangan ini buat Golovkin.
Kassim did a very good job till the 8th. I think he beat GGG for the general skill, movments, acuracy, footwork. But GGG was too strong.
That chin tho...
you should watch yhe kassim the dream ouma documentary unbelievable story
What is GGG's chin made of?
Granite
GGG TERMINATOR !
Love u GGG
the tenacity ggg possesses is freaky!! like rocky marciano with better skills!
Oum is pretty tough guy last that long. Altho both faces are swelling up more or less. good fight tho...
Golovkin the Kahzak zombie, he just he walking forwards.
In the 4th,5th and 6th rounds combined I got 192 punches landed for Ouma, I wonder if that's some kind of a record? I just counted 62 punches landed for Ouma in the 5th round, 62 in the 4th and 68 in the 6th round.
this is a compelty differnt fighter than what he is now
Where was the famous Triple G jab?
Golovkin has a tough chin.
Where did this fight take place? Lol they played soca music at the end of round 1.
+Dale Wilson Panama.
Makes sense
