Volvo V70 S60 XC70 XC90 turbo D5 VNT - PART 1

  • ECM 6805 on D5 2004 V70 leading to Engine service Required and to limp mode.
    Decided to remove the turbo as everything else has been checked or replaced. Finally I found it stuck because of soot in the vanes.
    A thorough cleaning and ECM-6805 never occured again ! Touch wood !

    ALWAYS change the diesel filter first .Mine blocked within a year of changing it. Some even collapse .
    best £12 you can try. have not had "LIMP MODE" for months
    and never ever let a V70 d5 get low on fuel. they don't like it

    So before u took the turbo of the engine, when accelerating a message on the display shows up that says something about service engine ? And the car does not accelerate anymore than 2500-3000 rpm ? And u kill the engine and start it again and it all works just fine.. until u make another big acceleration and it all get the same message and u have to restart the engine ? What u just read is exactly how my 2004 Volvo XC90 is doing.. and i can maybe think that i have the same problem as u have in this video, as long as i don't make a big acceleration my car works just fine, but when i push down the pedal to accelerate maybe from 70 to 130km/h this happen...

      Hi HearGear, the message displayed was "engine service required". As soon as I pressed the accelerator and reach about 2-2500 rpm engine went into limp mode (low power, mega lazy acceleration). It always "reset" the message and the limp mode when I turned the engine off. There are several things to check before having the turbo removed. You may have a look here to fully understand what and how the turbo is operated. First thing you can do is to bypass the engine mounts vacuum soleinoid and if it cures the limp mode then you're done, and you're good for a set of front and rear engine mounts. Best regards

      FGX318 My oroblem on the S60 D5 185 T4 was as follows. "engine service required" permanent message that keeps coming back almost immediately after reset: first error code appearing after reset is MAF. Checked for airleaks and intercooler all seems fine. Tested the MAF with voltmeter and not correct so changing to new MAF. However, other errors that come after that one if continue driving are to do with EGR valve and turbo. It goes in limp mode but accelerates well sometimes, it is intermittent, maybe then it is the MAF. Not sure if my turbo message could share something with the problem that you covered here? I am not that good with the vehicle yet. Another point of interest: the Volvo mechanic opened the top of the engine and changed the plastic rod that opens and closes all the time to let air into the engine. For 10 minutes it drove well but then all hell broke lose when I accelerated on motorway uphill: "Engine System Service Required" plus the soot filter full (DPF msg) and the yellow engine management system light. So next day I put two bottles of that DPF cleaner and only quarter tank of premium diesel and drove it 200 miles. Now the DPF msg disappeared and so did the emergency system light and back to the start of my message with the MAF issue. I hope to resolve it in two days when the MAF arrives from Germany (only place to buy as UK prices at dealers are prohibitive for the Bosch parts).

      This is what my xc90 D5 from 2004 does!! What was your solution? Some days it works just fine, other days I have to turn off ignition 8 times in order for it to accelerate again. Acceleration is kinda bumpy most of the time. Not smooth. It kicks in but you can feel power building up kinda bumpy. Plus engine sound is louder than other xc90's. You can also hear air blow or suck when releasing pedal. Sound comes from airfilter.
