In this first Mirror’s Edge Catalyst gameplay trailer, experience the moment where Faith begins her rise from a carefree runner to the hero the city needs. 2022 and this is still the only game I can actually play over and over again for years and never get bored. Just the whole vibe of running around plus the atmosphere of the towering city lights, I could never get enough of this game.

But even if they do personally i want a sequel rather another reboot or a remake of the 2008 game. Mirror's Edge is a one of a kind games that you don't need every new game each year or even 7 years which that's how much time has passed since then. It needs to be whenever it's possible for them without a specific year.

I started to play this game yesterday and i think its one of the most beautiful game ever made , i couldn't play it i was just staring on the view and what a beautiful view and city they made with realistic detail especially with hyper setting on 1080p , the view and the beautiful sound brought tears to my eyes i mean laterally may be because of nostalgia of the first beautiful game since 8 years . i am glade i am still alive to play this game .

this game has a vibe or view which gets a person to it's warm old days i don't know how to describe but i always loved mirror's edge, it is different than other games.
I know this comment is 4 years old but same. i literally couldnt help but stop and admire the world of this game. and that is VERY RARE for me to do so. Having no guns and parkour was also a nice addition to the game. Because of this game, I actually grew inspired by the minimalist design of the world and fashion style of the game. Big shame many games don't have the same visual appeal like Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

Its been uhhh 6 years now and I still absolutely adore this game. Nothing else even in 2021 can compare to the feeling of space and being completely tiny versus everything else around you. Graphics were definitely on point and was helped by the simplistically beautiful styling that just... works. I mean it when I say I cant compare the feeling this game gives. Its not the actual story, (the story was actually rather lame but still fluid) and its not even the running and cool animations with the parkour. Its legitimately just the environment that makes you feel a sense of uselessness not in a mental way but rather that your innate lack of size is so vast between everything else that you are in this mindset of "how can I even?". The even better bits are the small areas. Places that people would overlook in a heartbeat in any other game but contributes so much here. Having the sun always come in certain panels on the side wall or how the coffee table is slightly angled from the couch inside a house of a person that's not even home. Beautiful game and its going to be a long god damn time until I can find something to compare to the feeling this game influenced on me.

I just finished the first Mirrors edge, its unbelievable that game is created in 2009, still awesome, games nowadays are piece of s-it compare these games. I'm buying now the Catalyst, i hope it will be awesome too.

Dear DICE/EA. I understand that you likely spent a lot of of time creating it but please fix the rolling animation in ME2. In parkour, the game's core feature, you preform a roll diagonally over your shoulder to your opposite hip. The first game's roll looked much better and more realistic. It would save the game if you did.

Tanya Voss Agreed. I didn't know if I was misremembering ME1 but the roll in this trailer looked a bit shonky and inelegant by comparison. Pre-alpha though so still some tidying up time left for Dice. Fingers crossed ME:C'll feel as tactile, smooth and immersive as ME1.

I think this skill roll animation will be the same because it doesn't "shake" a lot like the real one or the 2014 concept footage. I want they to change it too but who knows...

***** Sure. It's gameplay recorded between the first-playable and Alpha stages. Assets and gameplay features aren't complete yet but the game can be compiled and run for demo purposes.
***** Mostly? The people assuming the VO is finalized or that game will stutter a lot for fps. The VO can be recorded anytime right up until QA. And the game has not been optimized yet. Of course it stutters.
***** Do you have all the explanations you want now? May I go? Or are you going to quiz me more?
***** I will with these last two points:
1. VO recording can take place anytime, and placeholder will be recorded by the staff in order to make sure audio cues work correctly. I don't know if this is the final VO (I hope not tbh), I just wanted to point out that there's no reason to believe it 100% is. I really am hoping it's not final, but at the same time it very well could be.
2. The game is not yet optimized for any platform, that's done almost last, right now they just want it to run. Although the FPS drops are no worse than most games.
3. Actually third point, there's no reason to believe this is PS4 targeted footage. This game is designed to be played with a controller, regardless of system; most platforming games are. As such, demo footage would be recorded with a controller. It would stutter on any platform at this stage so that's also not a reason, (like I said, it's not optimized).
Come to think of it, I remember watching dev footage being developed on Uncharted 2 being recorded with a controller but it was running of a PC, it wasn't even on the PS3 dev kit yet.

Anyone in 2021? It was not a bad game, perhaps underrated and misunderstood, but I love the vibe and soundtrack it delivers, not a bad plot too.
Still one of my favourite games ever made. I still play it regularly. The vibe and soundtrack are what makes 90% of this game as great as it is. The plot is pretty standard but the world and lore are top notch

Can we have a discussion about Faith's new voice actor in Mirror's Edge? It was really the only thing that bothered me about the new trailer.
I feel the problem isn't so much with the actor herself, because changing voice actors is fine in my opinion. Perhaps the previous actor couldn't deliver the lines with enough emotion for the new script, and this was a better fit, but she doesn't deliver the lines as Faith should in my opinion.
It changes her character. Faith was always confident in what she said and did, and was always straight to the point. However this new actor and script seems to make Faith stray away from that.
Listen to the next few lines from the new trailer:
(3:22) "Sorry, I'm checking it out"
(3:32) "There's a whole different set of labs here. This isn't agricultural research. What are they up to?"
And also that ridiculously heavy breathing near the end. (3:58)
While these emotions conveyed by these lines are believable and reasonable for the situation, they'd have been delivered much differently by Faith's old voice actor. Especially the "Sorry" in the first line.
The new VA delivers it with an uncertain tone, where as the old VA would have delivered it with more dominance and finality.
Faith is no longer the same character she used to be.

Yea the original is part of what made Faith seem so strong for a female protagonist. Though I understand this is a prequel so she's probably a bit younger. But her voice actress kinda stinks in general, it's like she's just reading it off the script for the first time. If she did a better job I'd give her a thumbs up

Faith's new voice actor sucks so harddddd. It's like she's just reading it straight from the script for her first time. The old VA was so much better.
Also the combat better not be all choppy "Press X to takedown". It just felt like the combat shown was just a QTE cutscene and kinda kills the motion in my opinion (unless character's current momentum is what dictates the fluidity?).
Lastly, don't do the slowmo in game like they did with the window. Once again, keep the speed. Don't put so much focus on player momentum just to force them into slow-mo scenes to kill the rush.
Faith's voice actor, my combat gripes, and forced slow-mo are my only complaints. Everything else looks super good!

The previous voice actress for Faith was Jules De Jongh. I agree that she was much better and she really have Faith emotion, and meaning. The new actress sounds a bit cheesy and too different.

This is still one of the coolest trailers I can remember.
I don't understand some of the complaining here. The voice actor - while new - sounds just fine to me. She sounds a bit younger, less experienced. Which is GOOD for a prequel. I won't be crying over any changes here. The soundtrack is also fantastic. The worlds look more alive and populated. The bigger focus on combat is honestly just what the series needs, and where it can shine the most. The parkour movement was interesting, but clunky. The free-running gameplay has already been done quite a bit in more recent games, although not as often in first-person. And there's a reason for that, it's disorientating and hard to control. As long as the gameplay is more streamlined (that's not to say simplified) and easy to control, then I am sure this will be a fantastic game.
I really wish people understood a fraction of what goes on in games development. The dialogue is purely a placeholder for the demo, it's still in pre-alpha and probably won't be used in the full game and will instead be done with a proper script (the voice actor was probably just hauled in for 30 minutes to do this part).

So you have insider knowledge that this is the final voice production, even though it's well known that pre-alpha trailer missions are very different to the full releases version and this includes the voice work. Right for anyone complaining about the voice acting, this was simply place holder dialogue for *Pre-Alpha* gameplay. So it won't be in the official game as they probably haven't even started doing voice work yet.
I have done some brief work in the Industry with quite a few companies. Just look at any early development E3 trailer's dialogue and then the actual mission on release, the voice acting will be different and better immersed in the game world.
Based on A. Experience in the industry and B. The fact that placeholder dialogue has been used heavily in pre-alpha trailers and then changed to be more immersive and well acted on actual release. Who the fuck is Faye?
If you have such an issue with people not delivering links to back up their evidence then why aren't you whining about the people who think this is going to be her actual voice on release?
Voice acting is one of the last things devs make and you say 7 years but what happened to Bad Company 2, BF3, BF4 and StarWars Battlefront? They may have begun the project a long while ago but they have been busy with other stuff as well. 6 months to go and we are only being shown Pre-Alpha material so I don't know why you're treating any of what is being shown to be actual material on release.

Yeah Right, Like I thought there was going to be a lot more about the crew than there was. It tried to distance itself from ME 1 with the whole Oh not going to actually tell you what the runners do.
I liked that in ME 1, you were totally distracted from your mundane job. Whilst no, the story isn't The Last of Us brilliant, it's still a great game.

This game's open world sucked and the story had alot of plot holes. We don't even get to know more about Dogen or meet Celeste (we keep hearing about her through audio tapes). There was no other interaction with Icarus after act 2,Nomad was almost absent throughout the whole story and Noah dies so early.

leonthesleepy 7870 isn't all that bad, just overclock it, disable some of the effects in the game and you're good to go at 60fps no problem.
Stalast Thats what i usually do! Still, i cant run games like Witcher 3 in 60fps. Still, i can manage a smooth 35-40 fps on medium to high settings, which isnt that bad! :)

Is it just me or do others agree that this voice actress is just awful. Her accent and tone just IS NOT Faith and I despise the fact that they got rid of Jules de Jongh. Besides the whole voice actress situation, I do want to say that this game looks terrific from the graphics, to the story line we are being teased, and the fluidity. The environments look stunning and I can't wait to see more.
The game is about Faith developing she is careless at start. Also this is a new more not so serious Faith. I really like it so far.

I'm tired of this "pre-alpha" bullshit. A pre-alpha is wireframes and XYZ-coordinates in the corner and half untextured surfaces.
Also, I can't believe they started the trailer with action when they KNOW that's what people wanted out of the game. Hopefully the action is completely optional like in the first game.
Finally, Faith's voice is awful. Actually all of the voice acting is pretty sub-par. Hopefully the voice acting is pre-alpha.

Wireframes? What is this, the 80's/90's 3D animation? People don't hand code in meshs anymore. Everything is fully polygonal from the get go today.
As for the term Pre-Alpha, yes in this case it's misused. It was probably a tacked on buzzword by the pr department because of all the "pre-alpha" games on steam/kickstarter. It lets the people less familiar with game development know that what they are seeing is unfinished, and may change.

Yup, ME1 is totally not recommended for colorblind people.. It looks way too bright and everything is just like White, Red, Green, Orange, Yellow, and stuff.

I'ts not only limited to screenspace reflections either. There were reflections of the character on the ground at one point, and reflections of the entire area on a wall, even when that area wasn't rendered on screen.

It's because now that it's open world, it's not specific how you get across. You choose how to get around - I'm actually glad you can do this since the first game was a bit straightforward. Now you're free to run the way you want.

***** They already explained in the first game that the reason for the red is to explain the 'runner's vision' in which they can see the free flow in the environment. Whilst for some it just seemed like a follow the path which it kind of is, it's just the runner's way of seeing the most fluid path to take.

It's one of those stupid video games all the kids play that are made really easy so all the casuals can get to the second level.
In the full game, there's a "focus meter" that fills as Faith runs; it allows her to "dodge" bullets basically, but it'll lower the focus meter
If it's empty, she'll start getting hit, and she'll lose stamina; basically her health in-game
And she *does* eventually get her hands on an experimental carbon weave shirt; very good anti-trauma clothing

Hey guys, just don't understand why you guys are concerned about the voice actor. I quite like her, it sound younger and more naive, before she became the more serious Faith in the first mirrors edge. This is a prequel / reboot after all.
The voice actors are subject to change when the game comes out. i wouldn't worry too much

You guys are probably way better at judging that then I am, is the voice acting of? Don't like the new voice actor? To different? Because all I see is a younger voice actor with a somewhat change from the first game.
A few interesting things I spotted:
At 0:27, you can clearly see that she does not have a glove covering her right hand. Then, at 0:30 when the character is sliding, she appears to have a glove that is completely new. I'm convinced that we will expect our character to have a variety of outfits throughout the game that fit the same or similar style of the original. Not too sure about it.
Another thing I noticed was the floating orb-thing next to what appears to be a zipline at 0:31 - not sure what that might be for, but there's obviously a reason it's there. It reminds me of the various orbs from Crackdown 1 & 2, where you would be able to invite a friend to play or trigger an event by going up to one. Most likely has a different purpose, however.
Should I play the 1st one? I heard it is good but I am not sure, and I kind of want to play this and have the backstory first.

It does look very nice, but I'm concerned it will be too easy. They have stated that they've trimmed down the controls so that you're basically giving Faith general directions and the computer will determine which specific move is to be done based on surroundings and speed. My fear is that taking down an enemy or passing a complicated obstacle will be as easy as pressing a button, and she'll take care of timing and several specific moves herself as long as the speed is high enough.
From what we've seen and heard so far, this seems to be the direction they are going in, and I really don't want a situation where they put in more enemies or fake difficulties to make up for the core game mechanics being too easy.
Awesome gameplay trailer though; if it turns out with this look and polish throughout and a solid control scheme I might just build a real gaming computer for this.
Jens Danbolt They say they'll try to make it fun for both new players and old players alike. I'd like to believe that they do it with the difficulty settings changing how much the console/computer does for you, but it's more probable that the route you choose makes the difference in difficulty.

The problem with the game is also that it was a console port. On PC I always had to edit the cfg files to remove mouse accelaration and to increase the FoV. That was on Unreal Engine 3 tho, now they're using Frostbiteee YEAAA the Battlefield engine. I love BF and ME x)

I wish the Cloaker looking guy had more of an appearance, I wanna know who he was working for, what he was like, it would’ve been better than killing him off instantly in my opinion, imagine if there was a whole other group that he was a part of, or maybe he could’ve been Black November, one of Rebeca’s best, and Faith could do some missions with him later on, that would’ve been awesome.

For "pre-alpha" gameplay, this is of extremely high quality. Usually, "pre-alpha" consists of a map that is only development solid colour textures with a player movement object. This looks more like "In Development Beta". I like it.
