Beautiful lady, beautiful healthy hair. Beautiful voice. No screaming just real natural singing. Oh Lawd! Where is that time machine blasting back to the 70's
@Helen Bestman I literally grew up on this great soul music of the 1970s. Those black artists nurtured my spirit as a little black boy. They set such an example for us.
Natalie Cole was singing beautifully during the 70s. Her songwriting team, one whom became her husband, made magic together. Great 70s love is filled in all those albums.
...Miss Natalie was not PLAYIN'! ...this tune has elements of Disco, Bossa Nova, & Jazz (w/ scatting on levels of Sarah Vaughn) , Natalie had the 'press' Hairdo, and wearing a satin Kimono WAY before A Taste Of Honey ('Boogie Oogie Oogie')....She, set the BLUEPRINT for Whitney Houston.... *TRUTH* ....
Saw her twice...2nd time she called me backstage in the middle of her show...Gr8 Memory of Huge hugs n picture n autograph...🙏☮️will see you in our next life 🙏in my Pink Cadillac...EVERLASTING
I guess this was the time when Aretha Franklin got super-pressed at Natalie Cole for that "Queen Of Soul" thing. I think during the 1977 Grammys after party, Aretha told Natalie "How come I haven't called huh? Child, if you do not get out of my way." According to a 1976/77 interview, she says "I don't want to be called 'queen', I would much rather be called 'princess'.
This is a fascinating video on a number of levels. First is the performance by Natalie which is truly live and fantastic! Russell Harty was a popular UK TV Talk show host during the 70s and 80s who would sadly die from an AIDS related illness and was treated badly by the tabloid press at the time. Nanette Newman was the face of Nivea face cream here in the UK for many years. The reference to the little boy wanting to marry Gary Glitter... UK viewers will shudder at that section as Glitter had a spectacular fall from grace being convicted of a string of pedophillia charges and jailed several times for similar offences involving young girls. He was linked with the reprehensible Jimmy Saville too.
This is when she met the man who would years later become her second husband, Andre Fischer. She also met Chaka Khan. Both she and Andre were part of Rufus. He was such a psychopath that Whitney called him, "Tick Tick Boom."
