  • Video #579: If you need a bunch of wire loops or eyepins done quickly, for your polymer clay jewelry... then this is the tool... More Info: www.beadsandbea... Polymer Clay Tutor.
    Topics Covered In This Video:
    Review of the 1-Step Looper and the 1-Step Big Lopper from BeadSmith.
    Pliers style wire jewelry making tool for being able to quickly make wire loops and eyepins.
    Perfect tool for making polymer clay charms and dangles in one easy step.
    Last year I made a Mistletoe Bracelet with tons of time consuming charms.
    I show you the process of making a wire loop for a charm using regular jewelry making tools.
    Two sizes available. 1-Step Looper makes a 1.5mm loop and the 1-Step Big Lopper makes a 3mm loop.
    Small loop is suitable for small dangles and earrings, larger loop better for charms added to chain or for links.
    I show you how to use both tools for making a beaded charm using beads made from the Art Sheet Technique Tutorial.
    These Looper Tools will cut and shape wire from 26g to 18g. Though, for strength, I wouldn't use wire any smaller than 20 gauge. Smaller wires may be too flimsy and open up in use.
    I purchased these tools at Shipwreck Beads.

    Thanks for explaining why wire thinner than 20 gauge doesn't work so well. That's easily something I would struggled with and wondered what I was doing wrong! Also, showing the difference in loops made by the 2 pliers is also very helpful.

    I am looking for tools to actually use to bend wire for model railroad work. I scratch build HO scale bridges with measurements based on the prototype railroads (using a scale ruler of 1/87), Can these pliers work with half hard and full hard wire? (20AWG to 24AWG). I am also looking for quality pliers for making 90 degree bends accurately in the same type wires if you have any suggestions. Thanks and again, very well done video. You have to love the right tools for the right job.

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 5 měsíci

      No, memory wire is too hard and will break the cutting edge on this tool. You need to use memory wire cutters, and round nosed pliers instead.

    How does it work if you're making looped connectors like a necklace, i.e. Loop-bead-loop because you'd have to make a loop first and you wouldn't have the bead as stoppage? Hope this makes sense.

    • @FlowerGemsGirl
      @FlowerGemsGirl Před 10 lety

      It is kinda difficult to do the loop-bead-loop on this tool but it can be done! Mine came with the instructions on how to measure your wire properly. You start with just the piece of wire, make your loop, add the beads, then make the loop on the other end. I hope this helps, I'm usually bad with directions! 😉

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 10 lety

      Flower GemsGirl and leigh marikian I like to work with really long sections of wire when I make a bunch of links with this tool but it would be too hard to explain in this box. This would make a good video, I'll add it to the list.

    This looks REALLY neat!!! I am thinking of just using it to make headpin for polymer charms, would that work? What thickness of wire do you use (not sure if the 20 gauge thing is referring to wire thickness or not . >.< newbie here).
    Would the 1 step looper work or should I buy the big looper if I want to use it for polymer charms? My charms will be used for necklace since I don't have ear holes >.

  • @misererenobis8900
    @misererenobis8900 Před 4 lety

    Thank you for your informative tutorial. As someone who is a complete novice, would you recommend that I start out using rounded pliers? I get the impression that using the looper tool might not create loops which are flush with the beads, unlike if you were doing it manually, or does it really matter? Lastly, which one would you recommend if you were creating chain link rosary beads? Many thanks.

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 4 lety +1

      Either tool will work, you just need to practice to get nice tight loops next to the bead. If I were making rosaries, I would use a looper because the links would be very consistent and quicker to make. But having round nose pliers is one of those must have tools if you're making jewelry, so you could start there and see how you like using them and then buy a looper if you think you could do a better/quicker job with it.

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 4 lety

      Make sure to push the wire in all the way, when squeezing the handles. Also, since you will have to use pliers to twist the circle open and attach the loop to whatever you're attaching it to, you can push the loop closed as you twist the loop opened and closed.

  • @plouviere4025
    @plouviere4025 Před 5 lety

    Do you have a preference between the sizes for making purse charms?

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 5 lety

      That would all depend on a bunch of things... how big the beads are, what I'm attaching the charm to, the size of the wire I'm using, the look I want, etc. That's why I have a couple of sizes of this tool. But if I could only pick one size, I guess I would go with the larger one because you would have more options.
