Let me know if I should make a response to the video I mentioned in the "Misconceptions" section. Because there's a lot I'll need to go over. lmao
Definitely, I’m tired of this game getting bashed when it’s actually got quite a deep combo system . I feel like some people can’t look past the shit story and awful characters to see a really good game that they would likely enjoy
I enjoyed the definitive edition way more than the original release. When I got the plat for DMC:DE I couldn't get good ranks using the lock on lol.
if the channel that made the video is fairly popular and can be used to click bait viewers, then yeah you should do it
otherwise, I'd love to just see some more highlights of the combat system, the doppleganger combos from Vergil were always so fun to watch
I'd be interested in it myself, but also a bit hesitant. Apologies for if what i'm about to say sounds rude or demanding, but do take care and some steps back after writing or recording some segments to not come across as attacking the person themselves.
Keep a level head during the production of the response. Emotion and the knowledge we have now vs. the knowledge we had back then can really color one's perception of how others' statements are received, and how we send out our own statements.
With that said: Nice to hear some Spark 3 music near the end of the video, and curious to see what video will pop up next.
As someone who knows what channel that was, I'd like to see what all he got wrong considering he's a pretty massive hater in general (not an insult, it's just his style of criticism and content. He's said plenty things about the Yakuza series that are worth making video responses to as well). I wouldn't go into said video with any malicious intent, though. He means well, he's just very very stubborn
Chaser, something that NOBODY ever talks about in the reboot combat is the ability to chain special combos despise changing your weapon . Imagine doing the 2 first hits with Yamato , and inmediately execute the special Bewoulf combo right after
Pause combos following style/weapon changes was a fun thing!
It was the closest that DMC got to having dodge offset as a series. I disliked DmC (no doubt in part due to when I played it and it being the PS3 version) but still found it cool.
I can see why: color coded enemies were originally invulnerable to weapons of a different color, so the game itself was discouraging you from doing this
Yes, two Yamato hits into a Beowulf combo would be absolutely wicked...if it actually worked in natural gameplay. In practice, you had enemies immune to Yamato or Beowulf, which also staggered you when you hit them with the wrong weapon, which just downright discourages you from pulling this off
...unless you were doing it with the same color weapon, in which case only Arbiter and Eryx had different enough area coverage within the same color to actually matter
@@Necroxion well the system can be rescued and used in other games WITHOUT COLOR CODED ENMIES. That was the worse thing in the reboot i swear
@@NecroxionVergil didn't have color coded enemies. Only Dante did. I know because when I first played vergils downfall I spammed Volcano(iirc the name) to kill everything but bosses until dmd mode.
I admit og color coded sucked but lets not forget DT ignored that so you could attack freely. And you can get ALOT of DT if you use angel weapons often.
It's nice that Capcom salvaged what worked in DmC to show that the reboot isn't a complete throwaway failure. Plus the game still has a plethora of cool animations that make Ninja Thoery continue to shine.
RIGHT? Like, a good chunk of Vergil's moveset from 4 and 5 are lifted straight from this game and I feel like in a better world the reboot and main series could exist in parallel and use ideas from each other
I'd love to see more review-type videos that are more focussed on combat like this one. I think being a fantastic DMC player with the ability to make great content is a really unique opportunity for you to showcase some of the more nuanced stuff in action games to a wider audience. I'd personally love to see videos like this on DMC3, Bayonetta and Assault Spy!
Heavily seconded. He's mentioned Darksiders 2 during... i believe the Lucifer video and would be interested in looks and discussions about the combat of that entire series. But stuff like Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death, Splatterhouse 2010, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 1 and 2, Soulstice etc. would be stuff i'd love to see as well.
Partially because it makes a number of those games more known, in a fair way.
I'll watch anything Chaser makes, but yes, a vid covering Bayo or Assault Spy would be a MUST WATCH right away.
I had a lot of fun with Vergil in DMC:DMC, he felt familiar, yet very unique compared to his other iterations in the DMC games. My biggest complaint with DMC:DMC was the shift to having to hold buttons instead of pressing buttons to gain access to different moves and weapons. While jarring at first to DMC players, once you get used to it DMC:DMC has alot of fun Depth to learn and a better combat system than most people give it credit for.
i use to always say "this would be better as a non dmc game", but honestly i think its deserving of the title with the combat depth. the devs while misguided i still feel they understood what made dmc cool in the first place and people who complain the most about this game never explore that aspect. reboot still beats most action games with its expression and i really cant think of any non dmc title that can keep up with it.
The reboot would have been sooo much better if Ninja Theory were allowed to do what they thought was best with the game without Capcom back-seat developing them.
Crapcom wanted to take literally everything about Dante and just do the opposite of what made him himself, there is so much concept art in the game that looks like an in-between point of OG Dante and Reboot Dante that looks so cool and could have been leagues better than what we got.
@@soulcyclone360The concept art for DmC was awesome. Dante had a Demon Form & Vergil had the Angel Form. But Capcom wanted them to change that & told them to rewrite the script like three times.
@@kijanajenkins2546 it's a genuine miracle that the game came out at all, let alone as good of a condition that it is in.
I know it's late to comment but now that the new Netflix anime is coming, the same vitriol has been going around.
I think the real problem already started with the mainline franchise and many of its inconsistencies, particularly its written media, the novels and even the manga.
Before 5, I really think NT took the time to also be influenced by the books and manga. Those media ran a much grittier tone and Dante swore a lot in those.
There's also a lot of unused and older concepts on the mainline that revealed a really darker noir Dante and he wasn't named Dante yet (this is the mainline I'm talking about)
And it's evident Shankar and his team have also looked into these same media.
This isn't criticism at how they should approach making DMC. But my take is that there have always been creases on the mainline's process from the beginning.
I mean, DMC came to be when an early RE4 game demo and idea was scrapped and what was left was salvaged.
how exactly were NT 'misguided'...?
I really want this Dante to show up in the main series under a different name as a rival to Nero
That could be a cool idea, like a dickish antagonistic type rival who might have some nice qualities deep down
I love Rico shot in this game, it can actually stunt some of the elite enemies like Tyrant, dream walker, Rage, Chainsaw, even bosses like the succubus and Mundus spawn can also be stun wuth it
It's supper useful for both practical combat and combos
I stand by my opinion even after DMC V. This is the best game in the series. Most complete, properly designed levels, functional and fun platforming, fun and flashy combat, great art style and graphics, amazing music and great controls.
Agree i played this game and DMC5, i got bored in DMC5 just by its boring level design and dantes look thats looks like a ma who drinks alot of alcohol
That's an opinion... That you can have.
Sorry, but 5 is just so much better to me
@@TITANN8778yea because he's old? of course he looks like that, the way he handles his money and offices kinda reflect that since dmc 3 🥴
The misconceptions about enemies are so true... lots of people talk a lot of crap about the enemies and i have pretty much the same thoughts you have. never found an enemy impossible to beat or that is limited in terms of weapons (obviously putting aside the red/blue color enemies).
GREAT video! i love it! talks a lot about DmC in a very objective way imo.
It's the same "Dmc4 enemies are not built for dante"
@@thonato295they're not. You have annoying ass enemies that nero can deal with easily just by bustering them. Shit like the spiky enemies and blitz are just a chore as dante as you either abuse one mechanic to death (hitting blitz and royal guarding the electricity to nuke them with release for example, or spamming the fireworks into a mephisto), or get cockblocked by shit gimmicks and nonexistent tells on those enemies that can break out of combos at random.
@@thatitalianlameguy2235 maybe I should've mentioned that dmc4 still has annoying enemies like thw blitz, plants that you send all the way down, and scarecrows with spikes
I am so glad to see a video like this that actually gives the reboot the credit it deserves when it comes to the gameplay aspect. I have played over 500 hours myself and haven't even experimented with the gun play lmao. Great video!
I loved this dmc ngl bro like a lot
It's a solid game honestly. I'm just not a fan of the writing and story lol.
Based
@@ChaserTechyeah the gameplay is alright but the writing and some of the design is complete ass
This was my first DMC game and honestly it was fun enough for me to beat the game and all its difficulties. I acknowledge the shallow beginning of the game with Reboot Dante's unwitty edginess and immaturity, but at least he gradually changed a little bit as the depth of the game were showing. It's by no means better than any other DMC game, but it was fun enough for me and did a good job introducing me to the rest of the franchise even when it had nothing to do with the original.
They don't talk about Vergil because he came like a month after release as a preorder bonus. (Pretty great preorder content if you compare with the usual weapon reskin)
Alright - Rahni Tucker's ultra awesome patch notes list was mentioned - video passes with flying colours.
Some notes:
Triple Angel Dodge - or as we all know it - Table Hopper Lv. 3 (Yet another proof that Reboot Dante is Nero + Dante in one package... same goes for Ricoshot. That charged gun move is totally a Nero thing). And I believe there's a CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE who would consider enemies forcing you to use something as "good game design".
All things considered - the Reboot Renaissance is still upon us and it's going strong and that's great.
I wonder who that certain group of people might be lol
Underthemayo moment
Man, you dropping so much great content lately. I’m glad that such talented player decided to make video analysis. Thank you so much
lol thanks man. I'm trying my best.
Another great vid, Chasertech.
And I just want to say that I'm not ashamed to admit that this is my 2nd favorite DMC game. DMC5 being 1st.
This game along with DMC4, MGR, and Bayonetta helped get me through some of the toughest times of my life.
I'll always love DmC: Devil May Cry, bc it's just very fun to play. It helps me to escape the shitty world we live in. Just as the other games I mentioned do.
Finally some talk about this game that doesnt centre around the story or the visual designs of the characters which everyone loves to gravitate towards.
Also worth noting that the Angel Evade X3 was in the vanilla version... At least on PC. Its news to me that it was added in DE.
It’s really nice to finally have a video that doesn’t go over the basic controversy and gets to focus on the juicy stuff, problems and all. It’s funny though because FF16 seems to have some of the same problems that DmC has which is why I’ve been itching to boot DmC back while playing FF16 😅
Just wanted to say thank you for making this video. ♥
This game means a lot to me, and it really warms my heart seeing you giving it a fair shot.
>implying chair, deadweight and status memes aren't stale garbage now
Otherwise great vid
I imagine he was being sarcastic when he said that lmao.
Don't think anyone who actually plays DMC liked the status shit for more than half a day.
(most views and attention this series has ever gotten on youtube, and it was all just stolen cropped porn. Good times)
Nah I was being completely sarcastic. I friggin hate them.
@@ChaserTech lol alright, it's all good then.
Gotta say, your thumbnail game is rapidly improving, this one goes hard asf
Ay thanks man. I've really been trying to make sure my thumbnails are striking and stand out.
About the gun auto charge and charge shot stocking: the devs were eventually made aware of this glitch, but they decided to leave it in while making the definitive edition because they were practical, and acted like new tools in Donte's moveset to mess around with (plus the fact that removing the glitch would make fans mad and they didn't want that to happen again lol)
I played this game in like 2019, but I seen a lot of people throwing hate and shade on it and it kind of projected my views on it and made me not like it because the first DMC game I played was three, and yeah the changes made me upset too, but when I play the game myself I realized that the game is heavily flawed but still a fun game to play. I just wish it did not brandish the name DMC, it should have been its own stand-alone game
So glad I'm not the only one who thought the dreamrunner was more fun to fight than the fury.
Unpopular opinion probably.
But I would honestly like another attempt at a reboot.
However instead of trying to reinvent the story and lore and try to replace the original like this game did. It's treated as a spin off, a "What If" type of deal.
Do something like what Mortal Kombat 1 is doing, a new timeline where you switch the characters a bit, change relationships between different characters and just see what new unique outcome you get.
Just a concept that I always love when a long running franchise executes it well, which is unfortunately not very often.
Examples like answering Vergil's question of "If our roles were switched" with a short spin off game are just the tip of the iceberg.
What an awesome video, CT. I genuinely learn a lot about tech for DMC in general everytime you put out a video. Please continue to make DMC videos as i know, without a doubt, there's plenty of other folks aside from myself that genuinely appreciate your hard work.
Great video, man! Loving these combat-focused review essays.
The difference between DmC and DMC4 in depth is about equity. Sure DMC4 is insanely deep and intricate, but what percentage of the playerbase is ever able to get to that level of mastery? barely in decimals. Thats the reason i prefer DmC nowadays, i can just hop in, style a bit and move on without having to dedicate months to mastering its combat system.
THIS
I really appreciate you as someone who’s willing to be critical still being fair to this game. It’s hard to continually watch CZcamsrs with decent platforms continue to shit on this game seemingly with no intention of actually understanding it.
Reboot Dante is my favorite DMC character to play as. (And in general) His Angel and demon sides help me feel very in control, as each side is mapped to a hand in my head. Angel is left, and it’s light, quick, and crowd control based. Right is hard, slow, and focused. High risk but high reward. He’s very much a mix of OG Dante and Nero, two playstyles I really like.
And I love, as you pointed out, Dante’s mobility in relation to his surroundings, it’s very unique for him and Vergil as well in this game. And though the lock on is worth it’s own criticism, I like that Dante has Omni directional movement with inputs like stinger, etc.
My biggest gripe with reboot Dante tho, is actually that he can’t taunt. I don’t like having to just sit there when normally I’d taunt in any other DMC, it’s a great way to transition between combos.
Anyway, just wanted to throw out some more love to this game. Keep up the good work and thank you for mentioning our community, it’s really great to see.
The color thing in the Reboot seems to be a leftover from Ninja Theory's earlier game Heavenly Sword. Main character's sword can adapt three different stances (Neutral, Ranged and Power). Neutral is dual swords, Ranged is double blade flails that are activated by holding the L1 button and Power is a single big sword that is activated by holding the R1 button (if i'm not mistaken).
No enemies are color coded in that game, but attacks are. And by being in the right stance at the right time (Balanced counters Blue attacks and Power counters Orange attacks), the player can have Nariko perform a counterattack.
Only Red-coded attacks can't be blocked, so you gotta avoid those.
Was a neat system, even though the game has room for improvement.
Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 also did something with color coding, but instead by tying it to the style meter. Damage enemies consistently for long enough without taking damage yourself, and all your hits from then on against any enemy releases magic.
Holding the left analog stick sucks in the magic into the Light Magic meter, and holding the right analog stick sucks magic into the Dark Magic meter.
But hitting enemies while empowered by either magic doesn't produce new magic on hit.
In LoS1, activating either magic simply gives a healing effect on each hit, or does extra damage.
In LoS2, these are actually entirely separate weapons, the Void Sword with an Ice Element and Chaos Claws with a Fire Element. Still have the effects from the first game, but with their own movesets, and do stuff like slow down enemies or break down defenses better, respectively.
There's also the cool thing where having either the Sword or the Claws active also has an effect on magic spells, which are on a separate magic meter which works on a cooldown. So no resource gathering there.
Blood Daggers now either freeze enemies and environmental things, or explode. And the Mist Form becomes a living blaze or frigid gust.
There's also the recent Soulstice which has its own take on the color coding.
Enjoyment may vary from person to person, but it's all itneresting stuff.
@@jurtheorc8117 Interesting, I’ve vaguely heard of Heavenly Swords mechanics being carried over but that explains it more in detail. Thanks for all the information in general
(Checks Patch Notes Link)
Oh hey, I did that. XD Time flys.
Long time fan, first time post; appreciate your thoughts on the reboot, and major props for giving DmC combo players a shoutout!!!
Yo I think I remember your name!
Yeah time definitely flies. While I might not like the game for it's story and characters, I gotta respect the amount of work the community did. Even now, after releasing this video, I'm actually starting to think that DmC is deeper than I thought.
Awesome review man! Again, very fair and great comparisons!
I'm so glad you make indepth videos like this. love your content and can't wait for more
DmC and MGR, both games released the same year and not far from each other. History will only be more kind to MGR, while DmC feels like something most people would rather just forget and leave in the past. Even if it is a very solid game
I know doppleganger in DMC3 is the first shadow clone jutsu but this Vergil make his shadow clone before Vergil in DMC5 and even some of his move just pass on to Vergil in DMC4S so it's kinda please me this game got some praise of what it did good
Perfect to find this video right after finishing listening to Rayman's Theme from Rayman M/Arena. Excited to watch the video.
19:46 Oh man, Devil's Hunt. I remembered getting hyped for this game for some reason
Yeah same.
Glad I didn't buy it lmaoo.
pretty good video essay! keep up the good work!
My biggest complaint was actually the boss fight. You basically fight a boss until their HP reach certain amount, get into cutscene then you either given the choice to do demon or angel pull. How is that different from game like Bayonetta or MGR? Attack the boss then follow the instruction to proceed to next phase. Yeah, the instruction is not QTE or button prompt but you pretty much already know what to do when those icon show u p above the target. The boss fight in older DMC mostly (except gimmicky ass savior boss which is crap) is always seamless. Boss transition from a phase to another phase isn't told in a forced way like cutscene but through animation and the game trust your instinct to read what those animation means. DMC is game about styling, being creative with your combo and how you approach the fight, but if you're forced to do one specific thing just to proceed further into the fight through gimmicky scripted cutscene then game is missing the point. The same thing can be said for color coded enemies. It's mechanic that force player to limit their option in a game about being creative. The only good thing I can say is that air comboing is easier to do even if you're shit at jump canceling.
That's exactly why i didn't address boss fights in this video because they are the most boring parts of the game for me.
I feel like, in hindsight, DmC was taking a lot of cues from Platinum Games products. Which makes sense, considering how overwhelmingly successful they were right around that time.
As a casual DmC fan I used to love this game. Now I am finally going through the whole series and, to be frank, I enjoyed it more than some of the "main" installments (the first two games ain't my thing, to be frank.)
Cool video.
7:55 This joke hit me by surprise, held a gun to my head and told me to subscribe
As someone who started the series with this game. I can say that this combat is actually fantastic and allows for a ton of insane possiblites once you understand the in depth mechanics.
ive been waiting for this video
Thank you for pointing out how amazing Vergil was implemented into DMC"2, I LOVED Vergil in this game, he was amazingly fun to play.
dmc was my first game as well and because of that I can play and enjoy dmc5. Which seemed more challenging to me before.
I like this series hopefully you make more
Red, blue, black, white color palette for thumbnail is nice.
Good video too.
Hindsight 20/20 but it's a shame we didn't end up with crackhead Donte from the initial trailer. Just like you said - in a world where the original Devil May Cry is (seemingly) alive and well, it'd be nice to have a really different take on the character.
I agree to this. The original teaser Dante looked way better than the one we got. It opens up many possibilities. Like maybe this Dante got captured by Mundus, and then tortured and experimented on.
This is so weird.
Even among haters they have divisive takes on 2010 concept trailer Dante and the finalized reboot Dante.
They say they like 2010 version, but they also hate it and bash it.
And add to this confusion, they hate him anyway lol
Like people are so fickle.
The dmc reboot is what got me into the devil may cry series. I remember playing the demo loving the combat then buying the game and without ever knowing this was a reboot i put probably 100 or so hours into this game.
Then eventually when devil may cry 5 was announced i was surprised to hear thay there were 4 other games and the one i have been playing was a reboot i kinda fell even more in love with the series and played 1-4 right before 5 came out.
Hey man, I love your stuff.
Had the same initial reaction with DmC like every other fan during release but I still gave it a fair shot. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it during back then (non-DE) and appreciated the new control layout (I found Demon/Angel modes more intuitive than style buttons as a casual player). I'm glad I'm not alone in appreciating this side-step in this series anymore. Great video!
Thank you for making this i wanted too hear a full take on the reboot that trys too focus on the good things and what the game has too offer and you delivered , i am officially hooked and will get this game , i really like the interactivity with the environment you can have in the reboot compared too the other Dmc games where the environment atleast for me was my enemy lol and charge shots actually having a purpose for combos is really cool too
I still prefer many other action games for a variety of reasons, but this was still pretty cool - to learn some of the intricacies of the reboot, although I probably won't put them to use myself, it's still nice to know.
2:45 oh that's weird.
One of my grievances with this game was actually how it seemed to have a sort of Bayonetta thing going on, where landing aerial attacks on an enemy would keep you suspended, but when you're whiffing, you very quickly drop, even if you only just jumped up off the ground.
That got me hit by the chainsaw dudes way more often than I'd like to admit.
So it's odd seeing this here with Osiris just letting you stay in the air for ages with no sign of dropping feels quite strange, I wonder what I was doing wrong
__
Godlike video essay, man. Really enjoyed this one a ton.
I still haven't spent nearly enough time with reboot personally, and I prefer the way the original series plays and controls, but it is always a shame to see when people write this one off for reasons disattached from the actual gameplay package. If we were only allowed to enjoy DMCs with a good story then 3 would still be the only one.
I always think back to the video GamingBrit made about DmC vs MGR, where he essentially spent half an hour going into detail about why reboot is better and more fun to play, but then in the end went like "Don't worry guys. I still think MGR is the better game"
damn he didn't want to offend those em mgr players (they haven't played the game)
Jokes aside, I'm thinking he meant mgr is the better experience, while DmC has a more fun combat system than mgr's
@@thonato295 Yeah I imagine he was referring to those, because MGR is hype as shit on your first couple playthroughs, but him going "DmC lacks these moments. These really exciting pieces of animation" to me felt like he proclaimed MGR's Quick Time events made it better, when I thought we all agreed that QTE spectacle isn't nearly as valuable to an action game as the raw combat.
Cutting Mistral's whip thing and then swinging around the pole to kick her onto that metal pipe for phase 2, or throwing Armstrong into that pile of rubble that he bursts out of, is exciting spectacle, but for a channel who consistently put gameplay over story, it felt like a really weird opinion to have.
Or it could really be that he was worried about backlash, since MGR is much more fondly looked upon than Reboot is by the general public (they played neither)
Oh well, enough of my rambling.
That Osiris move (I don’t remember what it’s named) only gives you height when you’re locked on, same with Roulette Spin. It actually gives you infinite height which is hilarious since they patched out quite a few infinite jump glitches in DE and ended up adding two more that are even easier to do.
@@assassinonprozac I was holding Lock-On constantly from what I remember, but maybe I'm wrong. Gonna have to try and see next time I play this
Thank you.
Good covering video about that infamous game haha
I never wanted to try it, but on pc with the POWER of mods maybe one day..
Anyway i'm glad that the game has found some love amongst the community, hate is not the Sparda way.
I miss this game it was the best DMC game ever made
I still have to try out this game and I will give it a fair chance
Lol, good thing I didn't found that guy who complained about "certain enemies r locked with 1 weapon only" n doesn't learn how enemies behave n how to counter them with each weapons, oh boy if I found that video I would wrote an entire essay for him, but u showcase him the best in ur video, good video man
n no, u don't need to make a video about the misconception part, it delivered well I already knew people that mindlessly complain with DmC was people that doesn't learn in depth how the game works
from me that love every DMC series respectively cuz each have theirbown flaw (except DMC2 but I do know DMC2 was still an experiment for what DMC should be before we got the well made DMC3, rushed DMC4 n ofc.. DMC5) I found ur video is correct representation of what's going on with DmC, cheers
I would love a spiritual successor to this game so we can just have more in the hack n slash genre
foxcade has a video talking about 15 year of vergil. And why reboot vergil is good.
WTF..... That environment traversing combo by Nyx is Smokin.
Its wierd how there are signs of greatness with this game but then later that quality drops in random places like cutscenes being awkwardly animated and the pacing is rough. I feel like the quality goes up and down often, but all in all its a pretty fun game
Great review. I rarely see just critical-minded reviews about this game, it's always about their preferences, and ignoring the mechanics that had pros and cons to this game.
Personally, love the story and gameplay, especially art and visuals, and soundtracks and designs.
I also never really minded the color coded enemies. I hate to be alone about this. Perhaps I'm just a simple minded gamer and I found my way going through these enemies AND even color coded obstacles, thought of them as nothing but a fun challenge for me to ram through. It made me practice and felt good having to use the different weapons intuitively.
My real little problem were the small flying enemies and the lackluster penultimate boss fight. The little flying enemies felt like filler enemies and Mundus was boring and short, which is a shame considering the flow of how we were getting to him storywise.
Love the game through & through💖
Really wish someone makes a changelog for DMC4 vs DMC4SE.
This is a freaking dope review man!!!
Edit: Also one thing I really love about DmC is how they handled Stylish ranks. Increasing your stylish rank also increases Donte's speed, making it a goal for the player to get better at the game. I feel like this was just one of the things that inspired DMC5 (Quadruple S), and I hope they continue this trend.
Good to know you’re not dead.
@@assassinonprozac You the same
this is also a DMC3 mechanic, but props to ninja theory for capitalizing on this
What?
Is that true? I never heard about/noticed that.
I saw something about the style rank effecting how long crazy combos go on for in 3, but that's it
@@DestinySpider Yes, it’s mentioned in the patch notes in the description of this video if you need proof. It can also be stacked with the DT and demon dodge speed boosts which can make Dante absurdly fast. Style rank also increases the knock back of moves like Hammer and Aerial Cross in DMC3 if you want more fun facts.
I remember spending hours playing this back on ps3 when it came out. I even got platinum for it, but after that I sorta just forgot that this game existed. Never did get to play the vergil dlc though, but definetly would if I had the chance.
the original also had a 30fps lock
What a rollercoaster this game was for me. I remember hating on this game for NO reason just because it was a reboot. Yes the story is nothing to compare with the original games. But over the years i gave it another try and actually started to like the characters more than i did before. The combat for me has always been good enough for me to enjoy.
Though the things you pointed out about the combat were solid and understadable.
I would definitely buy the definitive edition if it was on pc
What are u talking about? This is the only dmc game where the story is explained properly and thoroughly
I can't believe that no one credits the reboot for vergil's DT clone. Was it in a past game? I only got into the series with DMC4 and haven't played 3 yet but it was my favorite thing about that game and it's one of my favorite things about dmc5 vergil.
DMC3 had Dante's DoppelGanger. So technically it existed for Dante first before it was given to Vergil but they gave it more functions with delay.
A short story from me, i know dmc but I've never played it especially in pc (only played 3 in ps2 but never get through Cerberus) started playing DmC in pc and oh boi the controls are awesome and simple for starters... Get to try 4 and i dont really enjoyed the controls bcs its confusing to me especially playing in pc and used to DmC controls with Keyboard and mouse
Haven't tried 5 but i believe some things in 5 also come from DmC so i glad it returns
Edit: i know im skill issue
The devs actually did know about that glitch, and kept it in because they thought it was cool.
From what Ive heard they were super cool with the combo community, and made changes in the definitive edition of the reboot to make styling more fun, however, again, thats just what Ive heard.
Playing as Vergil in this is awesome.
What timing. I've been obsessing over 'The Roar Within' from its TGS 2011 trailer. Turns out, it was made by Tetsuya Shibata, the same guy who composed DMC3 and 4, alongside other Capcom games.
I got this game new when it came out. I felt it was pretty different from the other DMC-games in both style and gameplay, but I never thought it was bad for what it is. I found it especially fun from a speedrunning / glitch hunting point of view since it had so many odd and powerful glitch tactics. It's a pity they fixed a lot of that stuff later on... Hey, what kind of a Definitive Edition it is if Dante can no longer fly? Anyway, good video.
In DMC's slight defense on the color coded enemies. God of war 2018 did it and everyone worships that game. Also about the guns I had that issue to, I did have that issue a few times in DMC4 but not that many. Even then I think the cause of the problem in DMC4 is that I have the the shoot mapped to the left trigger and maybe the analog input of the trigger messes with it, but this does not happen that much. I have 500 hours in DMC4 and would say it happened 10-20 times so not a big deal.
Let's talk game design, If I had to come up with a way to streamline DMC's control scheme. I would have a function modified (kind of like shift on a keyboard) mapped to the left trigger, To do gunsligher attacks you use the Left trigger and shoot for sword master you use left trigger and attack, maybe doge and perry could share a button seeing as how they are both defensive.
I admit this is not a perfect system and I wouldn't want this in mainline Devil MAY Cry, but if forced me to think of a way to streamline DMC's controls this is what I got.
I think a video like this about DMC3,4 and 5 could be great I love your style.
One thing that makes me mad as a PC gamer, us PC guys never even got the option for definitive edition, the worst part is Ninja theory took inspiration from PC mods to make it. Before you say just download those mods I wish I could but the site that hosted most of them is down now.
Yeah I was wondering about why there wasn't a place where I could download these mods for the PC version. So eventually I got the Definitive Edition.
@@ChaserTech Apparently there was a form where they were hosted and they got deleted.
Same thing happened with the DMC4 super trainer, I have it on my computer and am looking for a way to distribute to the community.
Finally! An actual GOOD video on reboot!
@Thefunniboneman and not just a hate fest, or talking about shit they don’t understand
there's like many videos talking about the goodness of DmC, and kind of everyone now like Reboot, it's not surprising anymore
Should be normalised to not skipping a small tutorial the game provides even if you already play the same genre of the game before bcs sometimes the mechanics is just different...
Im playing this game after years not playing when i was middle school and i still remember how to counter chainsaw, witch spear?, And lots of parryable projectile with osiris prop... Even you can parry barbas' laser
Also play volley with that ninja demon is fun
DmC BABY LET’S GOOOOOO
As much as DMC reboot got hate, it was this game that got me into comboing and styling. It ignited my love for character action games in the first place and made me revisit DMC3 at an older age.
Now I can't help but look for any character action games out there!
So yes, the accessibility of the Combat of this game had plenty of depth and was simple enough to pick up that beginners can get into the Combat style of the series and other games alike.
Would love to have you share/review all other character action games ChaserTech!
I had no idea it was called "ricoshot". I always assumed it was just ricochet.
4:11 there is way to do it, it is kinda like intentional glitch where you hold down shoot button when evade and press attack button as fast as you can and then you stack up to tow charge up attacks from pistols and shotgun.
edit; i take this comment back.
dreamrunner is such badass enemy....... way better than fury, i love DmC:DmC
Honestly, I feel like I'm a lot kinder to this game now that it doesn't feel like it potentially destroyed the series and I feel like a lot of critics are still kind of stuck in a mindset where that was a serious worry
It never would’ve destroyed the series. DmC was always a great game, and a great DMC game.
Found this as Im trying the game again after years. Trying to experiment with button bindings but the damn angel and demon modes eat up so much button options.
There's a game from 2022 by name of Soulstice that has DmC:DMC gameplay inspirations (alongside DMC5 and Bayonetta) which does have a color coding thing, but does it in a better way. And also seven weapons total with their own utilities. Also has button remapping.
To access any of the six secondary weapons, you just press a D-pad button once or twice. And the color coding works with the ghost on your shoulder casting a forcefield that moves alongside you, by pressing a shoulder button. Makes all weapons viable for any enemy.
One of my favourites in the genre.
Even on release, I see we have the same opinions on Reboot Vergil. Sure overall his campaign kinda sucked but he's got a bunch of fun stuff to do with fighting and zipping around and had some simple execution challenges that I enjoyed lol. Love the video overall. I dig how you picked apart a lot of stuff I also noticed back when I still played this often.
Also now I feel like reinstalling the PC version again haha.
Side note: they did fix color coded enemy interactions in DE where it isn't so bad when you're not matching their weapon type (I think your hits just don't inflict any flinch anymore if you're not matching the color). Think this is the same with the Gentleman's Mod for PC, and also DT goes through the restrictions (even before they fixed it in the mod and in DE)
When i watched that guy's video, my brain melted, almost everything was wrong and a lie, the reboot isn't perfect at all, but this game towers over many other action games, it's so fun
The charge for the guns didn't work well with me either but i didn't really use them.
1:06 Dude. What breaks the deal for me is that this is both a cool ass combo and also it doesn't look as believable, punchy and impactful as it does in the OG DMC franchise. Floaty strikes ):
DMC5 is pretty floaty too and has the same problems with certain moves. Like with Cerberus Swing or Highside with Cavaliere.
When it comes to the issue with charging ur gun personally have never had this problem, it could also just be a problem with DE cuz I play on the steam version but I don't really know.
Dreamrunner is really good enemy that i really want in original dmc. Plus, is there any enemy in dmc 3,4, or 5 that similar to Dreamrunner or better?
To be frank, this is thefirstgamethat i practiced JC, because here it is much easier and forgiveable (jc does pause enemy's fallinganimation quite a bit)
Then i tried dmc 3
Then your tutorial of dmc4 that bring in dmc5
Yeah, DmC DE glitches on me too sometimes; it would not let me use angel&demon mode unless I restarted a mission or quit the game. As for lock on, I found it useful as without it my projectile attacks from rebellion, arbitr, and Aquila would soft lock onto the wrong enemy. I like the lock on in DE as when doing over drive with Donte I would switch targets during the move allowing me to hit multiple targets. (I tried doing that with Dante in 4&5 but I can't do a "drive by" like in reboot). I like that Donte can do quick combos/combining into a different's weapon's pause combo. Also I just always assume charge shot stocking was just a feature, never thought it was a glitch. I still don't like the that color coded enemies in DE don't stagger or act like it's getting hit unless I'm using the correct weapon type. I like the game play of reboot, the environment's visual designs, and the combichrist ost. Great job on the video.
Idk if you playe this game or know much about the Character but i would genuinely LOVE if you wuld talk about this games Combat system.
This is the Debil May Cry of the Spider-Man games. Spider Man web of shadows people even made Combo Mad Videos featuring it. If you are curious to see what people can do and show in that game.
What you mentioned about DMC Dante and the video you showed by Nyx how he is also using the environment to build hi combos. Made me think of the spider man game.
Anywau to not drag this out Great video and i can't wait to see more.
Fun Fact: Foxcade vid on DMC explained how Ninja Theory wanted to keep thier version of dante aa close as possible to the Original but capcom was like nah also i hope we get a sequel something similar to the tgs 2011 dmc debut trailer
Ngl the misconception section really annoyed me bc there's so many people that will straight up lie to bash the game
Is there an inherent problem with having a dedicated launch button?
Having a dedicated launch button makes that one button limited in terms of actions unless you use button modifiers. At least from my experience.
You should check out and make a video on ff16 and its combat, I think a video essay on ff16's combat from a dmc vet would be really interesting and dare I say needed.
I only recently got into the series through this game and did a video on it. Honestly, I regret making the video before learning anything in-depth about the games. I kind of just finished one playthrough of each game, and then pretended that I knew what I was talking about. Now that I'm a little more experienced, I feel like the biggest strength of the reboot is it's accessibility. For a new player the reboot has just enough leniency with it's timings to make combos easy to execute, but enough variety to reward experimentation (and like you said, depth for those who seek it). Basically, this is just a pretentious way for me to say that the reboot made me feel the most badass on the first playthrough.
If i may ask, what other characters action games have you played or are you interested in?
@@jurtheorc8117 aside from the DMC franchise, I've played Hi-Fi Rush, Bayonetta, MGR:R, Assault Spy, and the Genokids demo. As for things I'm interested in, I'd like to try out Astral Chain soon
yo funny neon white enjoyer, I think you might love god of war 3 and the other gow games
i would really love to see DmC 2. Would be cool to see Donte in DMC6 somehow haha
I wish dmc collection especially dmc3 and dmc4 had training mode so it’s easy to try practice combo and understand the mechanics more but still love the game I’ll give dmc reboot a try one day
