  • Looking to buy a punching bag for your at-home boxing space? These bags are fighter-tested--3 real fighters punch & kick their hardest to find a winner and answer to "Which punching bag is the best?"
    Here’s how to decide between a free-standing bag & a hanging bag.
As at-home workouts have become the new normal, many of us have been seeking a way to improve the way we exercise at home. Many have found combat sports to be an effective exercise. Whether it is kickboxing, boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA) or something in between, there is one piece of equipment that is essential: the punching bag.
Is a Punching Bag Worth It?
The short answer is yes. A punching bag allows you to practice almost every move that you would use in a traditional boxing or kickboxing match. Practicing against air can only get you so far--this is known as shadowboxing. A punching bag gives you resistance and the illusion of an opponent. This way, you can figure out your own style of fighting. That, combined with the stress relief that comes from hitting the bag for a while, makes a punching bag well worth the cost.
Is a Standing Punching Bag Better Than a Hanging Punching Bag?
This is mostly up to the individual. It depends on your needs and your space. Both hanging punching bags and free-standing punching bags have advantages and disadvantages.
    Hanging Punching Bags
    Pros
    - More resistance
    - Multiple workout variations
    - Do not take up a lot of floor space
    - Able to swing which simulates a real fight more than a bag that doesn’t swing. This can be helpful for training.
    Cons
    - Can be tricky to install
    - Require a lot of room to accommodate the swinging motion
    - Not portable
    Free-Standing Punching Bags
    Pros
    - Portable
    - Do not take up much open space
    - Offer a different level of resistance and weight
    - Easy to set up, not requiring hooks or brackets for installation
    Cons
    - Typically not be as stable and can topple over
    - Typically not as durable
    - Not able to swing
When choosing a bag, make sure to evaluate what you will be using it for. This will help you when it comes to selecting and purchasing the right punching bag for you.
What Is The Best Punching Bag To Buy?
Over the years many companies have released all sorts of punching bags, some are high quality and well worth the money, while others are better left…at the store. Buying your first punching bag can be intimidating, especially if you are new to combat sports.
The three (3) free-standing bags that have been “fighter-tested” by our FightCamp trainers are featured in this video. They put them through “stress tests”, consisting of one-minute constant kickboxing combinations and boxing punch combinations. All three of these bags can be purchased online or at most sporting goods stores.
It can be overwhelming when trying to decide what punching bag to buy. But once you decide on your needs, your space, and the price you’re willing to pay, a punching bag will be a valuable investment for your at-home boxing space and will help you train better and more effectively.

For the century bag. If you are just solely using it for stand up combat I recommend tying it to a ceiling or a beam with maybe Bungie cords and when you punch it whips back at you. Great for mastering footwork and knowing when to hit, it’s kind of like fighting a person.

It would be better to see a fair test done on all 3. Don’t get me wrong the fight camp one does look a lot sturdier but when you’ve got the other two right next to the edge of the stage on purpose so they go over seems a bit unfair when the fight camp ones on the other side of the stage and they were going all out on the other two with a fight camp one you could see they were hardly punching or kicking it. Which I don’t really understand because honestly I can’t see that fight come on going over even if they did go all out on it ha ha. It looks sturdy as hell But without doing a fair test you have to wonder. Is there any chance you would do another test And have all three in the same place and have the punches and kicks at the same velocity?

Better comparison is Century WaveMaker XXL or new Torrent free standing bags. Fill with 300lbs of sand or water. Bags have proper file and don't get soft. Vinyl is durable, not cheap. Add heavy duty grip tape on bottom then place on exercise mat so it does not slide. $399, but I found a used like new one for $35 on OfferUp.
Instruction: I use the Beachbody "Core de Force - MMA" video set.

That first bag - was the base filled, or empty? If empty not a fair representation of the use.

Everlast bag was obviously empty or barely filled with water or sand. Completely not a review, just a commercial for the Fight Bag which is literally the same as some of the ones century sells. The Versy Century one they showed on this review already comes with sand in it and is actually a great work out bag, it even bounces bag so you have to get out of the way. Bottom line, this was completely bias... reminds me of the Newschannels lately.:-/ Any of these 3 bags hold up well.

The Century fightbag DOES in fact suck if you're looking for a workout. You can get a great cardio workout by punching it and hitting it when it swings back, creating a little timing rhythm, but it'll eventually start sagging as the foam becomes squished down or the bag stretches, and then its worthless again. Just because you can do a dozen things with it doesn't mean it does any of those things well...

These guys are barely touching the last one, so it would probably fall off easily, also the other bags aren’t filled with sand or water to make them look bad.
