    I had a 86 B2000 truck I bought used in 1987, same color, same wheels, manual 5 speed. Great truck. I owned it until 96 when it had 115k problem free miles. I shipped it to Samoa in 1996 to my wife’s family who didn’t have a car, they drove it for another 30 years.

    Car fax is not correct !!!! I traded in my truck with 218000.0 miles the dealer rolled it back or replaced the speedo sold it at 150000.0 miles I was the 3rd owner car fax said it was correct mileage and 2 owners !! So car fax and the dealer both where wrong DO NOT TRUST THEM !!

      Yep, ran into it with my current truck (Ram 2500). Carfax shows an accident, which is technically true, but there was absolutely no damage to my vehicle. Guy in suv with spare on the back hatch brake checked me, I just barely hit his spare tire & it broke out his back window.

    I'm the original owner of my 2004 Tundra AC Limited (4.7L) TRD OffRoad and will probably own it until the day I'm gone as it has been the best vehicle I've owned (out of ~20). It just rolled over 75K miles and because I have a "robust" case of OCD it still looks like the day I brought it home from the Toyota Dealership near my home (same place TFL got your 2022 Tundra), with the exception of a set of fairly new Bilstein 5100s and Anza D558 wheels with 33" Geolander A/T tires and a BakFlip cover. This one wouldn't be on your

    Andre don't worry about the mileage on that tundra. I bought my first gen with 230,000 and it has since made the 1100 mile trip from Georgia to Vermont and back 10 times, it's currently at 280,000 miles and has given me no problems at all!

      My 04 AC had 180,000 when I traded it in for my 06 DC. Didn't have any problems with it and still wish I could have kept it. My 06 same thing. I'm at 118,000 with no problems . Just keeping up on maintenance

      The 1st gen Tundras are Great trucks for sure. I had a 2001 4X4 TRD with the 4.7LV8 that I worked hard and it was a great truck for me. However the prices people are asking for them is getting a little crazy imo. The best truck I've ever owned is my current 2008 Nissan Frontier 4x4 Crew cab with the long bed. Currently has 400,301 miles on original engine and trans. Its my daily driver work truck and is still running pretty good although the powers down a bit due to the miles on the engine and the fact that I've got 33" tires on it. Only got 267,000 out of my 2001 Tundra before it had a major cam issue in the engine.

    I had a 1st gen Tundra (2001) the only thing I didn't like about it was it was too car like. Soft suspension which made it give a weird ride, it also made the tow and hauling numbers low.
    The engines can easily reach over 500k with little issues, the only issues they really had were the transmissions they had a higher failure rate. But if I can remember right in 04 or 05 they upped the hp with a VVT system and replaced the 5 speed with a 6 speed, and that trans was a lot better. So I would recommend looking for an 05 or 06 model

    One of my trucks is a 2002 Tacoma TRD 4x4 (190K miles). There is no way I would sell it for less than $10K. I have subcontractors asking frequently if I will sell it on a personal level. Underpowered, but bulletproof, and a darn good 4x4 with a decent driver. Never stranded me. That is generally my measure for selling a vehicle (strand me and I might sell you). I trust it way more than my CJ-7. Peace, Love!!

    That truck you have in the thumbnail, well that was my first truck! A Y2K Tundra double cab V8 2WD. I serviced it the first 3yrs of its life, then bought it off the used car lot at my dealership. I drove it for 17 yrs and I don't need to school you on its reliability. Still in fantastic condition @177K, I live in the south, I was thinking it was time to sell. Thanks to TFL, I learned about my next truck and trusted your input. I sold the Tundra to a fellow tech which he'll take over with pampered service and you talked me into the 2019 Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT SC. Absolutely love it! Thank You TFL Trucks.

    • @Gazziza29
      @Gazziza29 Před rokem +2

      Chances are you can probably still sell your truck for more than what it was pre-pandemic. It might not get as much as it would have last year at the peak of used prices but I still think you can get good return for an older low mileage truck. Post yours up for sale and see what the market wants for it. You never know, all you need is one person who might value your truck more than others.

  • @dannyo6699
    @dannyo6699 Před rokem +3

    I've had a lot of experience on servicing the 2nd gen Tundra, and if it still has the underbody engine shield, they are a bearcat to work on. The shield is heavy and clumsy and ridiculous. The filter is a cartridge and the cap is usually excessively overtightened by the last individual that changed oil in it. The caps actually have a factory torque, at 18.5 ft/lbs but no one does that. It's actually not real bad except for the filter if the shield has already been removed prior to servicing.
    The gen 1 Tundra also had an under engine shield but it does have a spin-on filter. Changing the filter doesn't require removing the shield, it can be reached from under the hood. Just throw a few grease rags under the filter on top of the shield and change the filter. Then use the grease rags to wipe up any oil on the shield. It is a bit of a reach to access the filter and shield going this way, but it can be done.
    A lower mileage gen 1 Tundra, I'd definitely consider that if I were in need of a truck, especially if it were the crew cab. I'm a bit of a fan of these.

    Down here on Mississippi coast 4x4 not as big a deal. I love my old (2006) Nissan Frontier extended cab. Love it for the full 6 ft bed. Wish it was V6, but the ole 4 banger works great here for a daily commuter and weekend hauler. Way more comfortable seat and better legroom than the Tacoma.

      I've got a 2008 Crew Cab 4X4 Frontier with the 4.0V6 and the long bed. Best truck I've ever owned and I owned a 1st gen 2001 4X4 access cab TRD Tundra before the Frontier. It was a great truck but my Frontier has been better. My Frontier currently has 400,301 miles on it and it's still running strong as my daily driver work truck and it works hard hauling a cargo trailer often and tools and equipment for construction work.

    1st Gen Tundras are fantastic. And yes, folks are starting to figure it out as prices are creeping up. A decent one runs in the lower teens while a clean low mileage(>100k mile) with 4wd will run into the low 30k range!

Definitely a blast if you like really old cars though. Also they are wild to drive you're fighting the steering wheel the whole time.

    I love the old Ridgeline look to the new andy brother has a 2012 still going and my family has had an mdx and 2 pilots and they each went to alover 200,000 and only the mdx broke and that's because of a dumb shop, if you don't need full on truck mode they have soany nice things like the tailgate opening 3 ways, the AWD vtm4 is Wonderful unless you have to push it real hard if you don't really need a truck but want one these are the ticket unless you want a little better mpg then go with the maverick I'd say my friend gets like 25 mpg avg and the Hondas we're like 21, but the maverick I don't know it will last as long too. I had an mdx with a lift and 31x10.5 atw3's and it was amazing for a dual purpose rig that was so damn nice and comfy and almost a 250,000 miles before it blew which was due to a db ass shop screwing it up, the one time I let someone work on my car that's not me the engine blew 20 miles after.

    My family had a Ridgeline in that year and color and we nick named it the purple El Camino. 😂 We loved it but has terrible gas mileage. I also am willing to bet that that Ridgeline probably needs the water pump, and drive belt replaced which is about 2K worth of service for Honda/Acuras that have a V6. You have to do it every 100K otherwise you could damage the engine if the belt breaks.
