- In Lucky Dog endurance racing, not all cars are created equal! I'm driving a Toyota GT86 (BRZ), and one of my main rivals this race is a 944 Porsche with around double the horsepower. I have the advantage of having a super well balance car with great braking and cornering performance, so I gain nearly 4 seconds per lap just in the twisty sector 2. This track (Shannonville) has some long straights, so the Porsche gains back all that time (and then some). What amazes me is just how different these cars are, but in quali trim, we're within .6s of each other... the gap between RedBull and any other F1 team in a SPEC series lol

944 is probably *THE* most underrated porsche in the world
Wrong trust me it’s the 914 it’s a Porsche miata with a flat 6 out of a 911 and can sit right under 2000 lbs if you take that spare tire and seat out they even won Le Mans a couple times I believe

Not necessarily. All depends on the track, power difference, how well you know your car. Taking a defensive line may cost him .8 through the technicals and give him a worse exit speed, where as taking the ideal line behind the faster car and getting better exit at the end of the technical may only cost him .2 seconds due to braking early to let the 86 pass on entry. I know the numbers i gave are arbitrary but I'm sure you get what I mean. Gotta remember that OP isn't the only other car that porsche is racing. Another reason would be he doesn't feel comfortable playing defense against a car he knows will right on him through the technicals so he concedes the entry knowing that he'll get his position back on the straight.

He was going to easily over take him down the straight. Both drivers knew that. Why fight and slow everyone down or lift and coast and preserve the car and go on your merry way after blowing his doors off on the straight?

Thats what im thinking. I dont think its a turbo. Could easily be wrong, dont get the best look st it. Even a 16v wouldnt have 100hp over the yota. Maybe it's swapped though.
Nevermind, you can hear the turbo. So. 350, 400cisnt out of the question.

just because of this video now i found out about the porsche 944 and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
Thats how you learn racecraft...by not having the horsepower to pass on the straights so you learn how to carry maximum corner speed and pass in the corners..not all bad..many world champions learnt this lesson early on to go onto greatness.

I used to drive for BMW, and we would go out to track, and we let people who have more power to weigh ahead. It was always fun to see who could get a better time.

@Ben Franco I worked over in the Greer in South Carolina. My team used to work on the new prototype BMW. I stopped working because I broke my back in 2 places in a car accident. L 2 and L3 chiped, and I have severe nerve damage.

That 944 motor started life as an Audi Block. I have a 924 2Litre … they built nice motors . Just not flat fours. The transaxle was a great way to balance the Car too …

That's the general Driving Experience of that car you're pretty much quicker than everybody around the parking lot but the minivan will fly past you on the highway😂 that's literally the GT86 experience in a nutshell lol
I learned from mariocart that you should always pick the heavy fast one because if you don't crash you will win, but if you suck at the game you might wanna pick something light with lots of acceleration

Turbos are worth anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000. Go and try to buy one. You won’t get a nice n/a or turbo under 9k.
@@alexanderv592one thing I will mention is that are you going to spend 25k for a car to race when you know you will be working on it later it's likely they didn't spend 15k on it.
It is a popular thing if a 944 becomes a salvage to turn them into a race car.

The 944 has 400+ horsepower? Unless it’s running some pretty serious boost and supporting mods I’m not so sure

No way he has ‘double’ the horsepower. Maybe like 15 hp more, a 2020 gt86 makes 205hp, not much, but the 944 had a maximum of 220hp, (assuming NA, really don’t believe that would be a turbo 944 he’d be racing) Assuming both cars are modifed or fbo, I stll don’t see how he’d have such a power difference. Really not that different hp, but certainly has more torque.

I’d figure the 944 would be slower than the gt86. Turbo I’d assume. The Gt86 is probably the closest analog to a 2023 944.
