  • Ice is ice, right? Wrong! From the vacuum of deep space to the inside of ice giant planets, ice gets stretched and squished into way more forms than what we find here on Earth.

    @All the 12 year olds here:
    Stop bickering about Olivia.
    Like, seriously. Do you ever even read your own comments and ask yourself how she might feel when the only replies she ever gets are "ewww, olivia" for no fucking reason whatsoever?
    If she'd have anything to dislike about her I'd understand, but can't you give her constructive feedback in any way?!
    She has a calm, collected, clear and not overly quirky voice and gets the points across. So it can't be that.
    The scripts are the same, no matter if Hank or Olivia talks to a camera, as the scriptwriters are entirely different people than the people presenting Scishow here.
    So why do you even hate on her? Because of her looks? It's the only thing left you could hate her for. Is THAT how shallow you so considered "science enthusiasts" really are?
    I sincerely don't get it, I always thought the people here were mature enough to focus on science and not on looks. Shame on you.

    • @vavra222
      @vavra222 Před 7 lety +17

      Dude, its EXACTLY about her fucking voice.
      She speaks in questions, ends every sentence with an idiotic sound, like she lost the interest to EVEN FUCKING SPEAK halfway through the sentence... she is just so irritating and cant get me to be interested.
      I tried to just watch few episodes of her but no luck, i am severely triggered by her fucking voice.
      Plus, her image as a "hipster pothead" and she looks like she doesnt know what a shampoo is.
      Its not the looks, but its the image.

      Plenty of SciShow videos bring up visual aids to help explain videos, so we _have to_ watch the video to understand it all. Looking away from the screen isn't a viable way to watch the video. So yes, her looks play a role in whether or not the video is watchable.

      Actually yes, in fact they do. First, one appears, then gets an upvote, then another line appears connected to it. The cycle continues as more upvotes are added and lines cling to it. A line of sanity gets injected, but rarely has any noticeable affect as it's quickly followed by more stupidity. The only course left is marking it as spam, cutting out the entire mass of dumbfuckery, and hoping the comments around it are strong enough to recover some semblance of mildly intelligent human behavior. But too often, there's just no chance... just like cancer.

    regular polyhedrons) is comprised of 4 equilateral triangles. But I bet you already knew that.

      No you don't. This is a common misconception. Saying that Olivia isn't able to finish a sentence, like vavra222 did in one of his comments is defamation, which is punishable by law.
      Defamation-also calumny, vilification, and traducement-is the communication of a false statement that harms the reputation of an individual person, business, product, group, government, religion, or nation.
      Under common law, to constitute defamation, a claim must generally be false and must have been made to someone other than the person defamed.
      Libel is defined as defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures. The law of libel originated in the 17th century in England. With the growth of publication came the growth of libel and development of the tort of libel.

      Christian Rankin The human tongue is actually a group of 17 different muscles, that are attached to different bones or muscle structures in your mouth and throat. Inside this group are subgroups that have a specific action, so while all of them contract, they coordinate in a way you can move your tongue in different directions.

    • @Christian-Rankin
      @Christian-Rankin Před 7 lety

      What I mean is, how can your tongue straighten out with force and push things such as pushing your lips open or something.

    • @SofiaZS98
      @SofiaZS98 Před 7 lety +20

      Christian Rankin So I was doing some research and I found that tongues can do that because they not only contract, but also extend. I'm gonna copy and paste some of what I found because I'm not a native English speaker and I think it will be clearer and better redacted that way.
      "The tongue has a great ability to move in all directions. The reason for this is the way the muscle fibers are arranged, which is unique in our body. They run in all three directions: from front to back, from the sides to the middle and from top to bottom. This allows the tongue to make the following movements:
      -Extending and contracting: The tongue is the only muscle in our body that can actively contract and extend. When the vertical and horizontal fibers contract at the same time, the tongue becomes narrower and longer: we can stick our tongue out.
      -Raising and lowering
      -Bending backwards
      -Advancing and retracting
      -Changing its position: Additional muscles can change the position of the tongue: They pull into the tongue from the front (from the lower jaw), from below and behind (from the hyoid bone) and from above and behind (from the base of the skull)."

      Ricardo Mazeto the way you put it forth was quite nice! It was critical but still calm and contained.
      Personally I haven't found many problems with her hosting but i see many people seem to think otherwise which is okay.
      She also seems to have changed quite a bit since she started. I believe that should atleast bring a bit more optimism. A few more months and it will be even better.
      I have only seen one person on this video that said: she isn't good, but she has gotten better. I think people should point out where it can be improved, but also reflect on that things have also changed.
      Just seems to me that a few "handfull" of people seem to forget that both viewers and Olivia is on the same side.

In that case it's not about someone who does or does not have the skill set to host, but one who knows her stuff. Even if that's not the case, I think Olivia does just fine hosting.
