    anyone with hooded eyes knows that if you can smidge your eyeliner with a brush, by the end of the day you'll have a second black line above your crease. The only eyeliner that works on hooded eyes is liquid liner because it's the only one that does smudge proof

    • @Ledraali
      @Ledraali Před 8 lety +12

      Exactly. There's no way that eyeliner wouldn't end up in my crease in under ten minutes :)

      I've been the same owner of hooded eyes for 20 years and in my personal experience the heat of my skin smudges it all over my lid

    • @ACuteFaceOnMe
      @ACuteFaceOnMe Před 8 lety +8

      I do have that problem too, and I have tried both liquid and pencil eyeliner and both smudged on my lid, so I'm trying out a gel eyeliner and it seems to be working fine

      Yeah but +makeupdiva3 probably does know more... She is a makeup artist who has most likely done looks on people with hooded eyes. I'm not saying it doesn't happen bc it probably does happen for some people. I just think a makeup artist would know more about makeup considering it is their job.

    I agree with everyone else, the eyeliner made me lose faith in this video. Also if I put the colour right in my crease they would disappear. I have to make my crease higher to make anything noticeable. Also, shimmer on the lid can open up the eye, especially when it's in the centre.

    • @Sammvoy
      @Sammvoy Před 8 lety +2

      its different then monolid! I have a hooded eye and if i used shimmer just in the middle it accents the hood and transfers all over the lid

      Jenna Watson if you want shimmer try first putting a matte eyeshadow in the crease
      And than putting a little bit of the shimmery eyeshadow
      I have vera hodded eyes and i put shimmer wherever i want. But you have to first put a matte eyeshadow as a base in the crease (i usualy put 2 one on the whole crease (a lighter color) and the other a little bit above the crease (the one i really want as my crease colour) but be cerfull not to put it too high) and then for both the lid and the crease or only on the crease i put a shimmery or sparkly

  • @trigforner
    @trigforner Před 8 lety +592

    I normally love your videos but I have to agree with a few others. You have a very large lid and defined crease, not hooded at all. Jennifer Lawrence has hooded eyes for example. I'm Asian with hooded eyes; I could never blend that many colors in my crease because it's such a small tight area, not to mention the lighter color on the lid would never show on me. I would love to have seen a tutorial on an actual hooded eye person.

    • @simplysona
      @simplysona  Před 8 lety +91

      I have a heavy fold so I thought I'd show this technique on myself, but if you'd like, I can do something similar on one of my Asian friends. Just request it and I'll try and make it happen after the holidays.

      @AnaRodriguez-ix5ns Před 8 lety +8

      she does. I do. People don't have to be 100% Asian to have hooded eyes, if that's what you are implying. It's also intended "term" for people who have very little "eye canvas" to apply makeup to.

    I hate to disagree but I have really hooded eyes and if I were to take the steps with the left side then my eye shadow would literally all blend together in about 30 minutes because the shadows starts to touch each other. The look you created is pretty though. It just wouldn't work on me because you also would not be able to see the look if you are looking at someone straight on.

      i agree....also....we r not trying to elongate....we r trying to widen (north/south)...so with fake lashes.....very thin bands...with spaces in between lashes...so there is no need for liner....and lashes longer IN THE MIDDLE.

    • @ChaiLatte13
      @ChaiLatte13 Před 8 lety +4

      +Cindy Ibarra If you have a hooded eye, then apply your eyeshadow while looking straight into a mirror with your eyebrows relaxed and not raised at all. This will give you a guideline to see how high you actually need to put your makeup, so that you can see it when your eyes are opened. It sounds like you are putting your eyeshadow too low for your eye shape. Sadly this video is really quite terrible since this woman does not have hooded eyes in any way. You may want to check out Alissa Ashley 's videos on hooded eyes. Take care!

    • @FarsirisCassidy
      @FarsirisCassidy Před 8 lety +2

      +vote4freedom actually, based on what Cindy says, videos of Ashley won't be any more helpful than this one, Alissa has very small hood on her eyes, so what she says does not apply to those who have really hooded eyes (like I do) - it is impossible to use cut crease or eyeliner at all with such eyes. plus, what you say is wrong as well, if you apply makeup that way and you even slightly raise eyebrows you look like a panda ... i have yet to find someone who actually knows what they are talking about when it comes to hooded eyes - you know, when hood is covering all of your lid even with eyes closed and when you open eyes, it folds in uneven layers ...

    Even though I like the "do" makeup, it doesn't make sense to me. Makeup gurus who make a tutorial for hooded eyes, make the "don't" eye ugly on purpose and don't do it with any serious effort (which makes the "don't" eye even uglier than it actually can be). Someone understands what I'm trying to say here? Because I don't know how to explain it obviously....

    You are beautiful and the "do" side is very flattering on you. I just have to point out that the "don't" side is just bad makeup in general. It doesn't really matter what kind of eye you have. Some of these tips are very helpful, I just don't think it's specifically for hooded eyes, in my opinion.

      Instead of saying "don't use shimmers in your crease." And then slap the shimmer on, you should have said "don't use shimmers in your crease, also, make sure you aren't blending your colours this particular way."
      If that even makes sense.

    This video had me hit subscribe :) Lighting, even if it's enhancing, is far better than most, not yellow and clear enough to see the folds in eyelid. For all who complain she does not have hooded lids, she has enough that you could dramatically see how the right/wrong technique makes a huge difference. She could have stopped at the first lining step & stopped w/already beautiful results. Each continued step provided multiple options for how intensive you want your look, each equally beautiful ! The side by side, right & wrong demonstration is fantastic ! She has a great voice, is super clear in sound & directions & thank you lord, she gets to the point ! Keep it up, I'm loving your presentations.

      +Gabby Tabbert it's still the same principle. you don't have to have a complete monolid for your eyelid to be considered hooded. so whether her eyes are drastically hooded, or not, it is still the same technique.

    • @gabbytabbert7519
      @gabbytabbert7519 Před 8 lety +14

      +Mayra Ortiz Actually, monolids aren't hooded whatsoever...that's why they're called MONOlids. And I didn't mean any offense, it's just that someone with more hooded eyes like mine would have more trouble with makeup and the methods she used still wouldn't work well on my eyes.

    What everyone is failing to realize is that there are different "degrees" of hooded. At 23 I am just realizing that I have hooded eyes because I thought hooded eyes meant deep invisible hidden lids. But nope, it's any fold that covers the lid slightly or completely. It takes just working at it for you and your hood "degree". The no shimmer tip is golden because my eyes look horrible if shimmer even gets close to my hood.

    But you don't have hooded eyes. When you eyes are open, I can SEE you crease shadow. Mine disappears completely. In fact, my upper lid disappears COMPLETELY. You wouldn't even know I had a crease if I didn't blink. Still found this helpful, so thanks.

  • @gwynnethmceachrane3819

    This is a nice look (the good side, that is). But one technique I’ve learned (I have hooded eyes) is that the color normally used to put in the crease must be applied above the crease line.
    If you put it in the crease, it disappears the moment you open your eyes.
    I’m definitely going to try out that look, though. Thanks for the video!

You can't blend one side and the other you just put the color there and say see it looks terrible. ofcourse it looks terrible when you are not even trying. I always that thought i can't go with shimmer because of such tutorials. But you can 1. Blend a nude and then put shimmer. it looks great.

  • @laurie706
    @laurie706 Před 8 lety

    Reading some of the comments below I do agree that you only have slightly hooded eyes and other people have more defined hooded eyes. I have slightly hooded eyes but they are not the same either. My right eye is a bit more hooded on the outer corner while my left one is not. I can usually achieve a mostly symmetric look but trying to do a winged liner is almost impossible. I think doing an under the eye "wing" from the corner upward works the best as you demonstrated. I also think just working the corners and not bringing the eyeliner too far across the whole eye also opens the eye a bit more. What do you think?

    Whaaaaaaat my eyes are similar to yours too! Which kinda makes me think my eyes are slightly hooded and maybe yours are slightly slightly hooded since you don't have small eyes but a lot of lid space. If your eyes are far apart it's ok to add a little bit of black and if your eyes are close together use lighter colors to create space.

    My eyes are very similar and I've struggled with how to do my crease. Also eyeliner is so so hard. Thanks for this.

    Your eyes aren't hooded? You have a defined crease and lots of mobile eyelid space.

      +Katie Clark hooded just means the upper lid covers/ hangs ever the crease/mobile lid. even if its just a little. that was a shit explanation but hopefully you see what i mean ?

    Omg! This was very helpful, but my eyes are super hooded and they do this weird thing where my crease line/ hooded part is connected down to my inner corner- of that makes any sense. Basically, the upper part of my eye area is connected to my inner eye making it impossible for me to do the little triangle eyeliner thing people do in their inner corners.
