Any bottom fishing trip in the Florida keys I (Heiko Winkler) already know that it's going to be a catch and cook. Craig is the man on how to catch mutton snapper. Craig can catch monster mutton snapper all day! We also catch a lot of yellowtail snapper while bottom fishing offshore off of Key Largo. We ran pretty much east out of John Pennekamp State Park to be specific.
While bottom fishing I get a little hungry and decide to do a catch and eat. Now what does that mean?! I caught a yellowtail snapper while we were chumming for live bait. I catch and eat him for a snack since I brought the soy sauce. Expect to see more soy sauce on the South Florida Fishing Channel boat =)
Ok, let's get to the fishing rig. After all, this is how to catch fish and the snapper rig is the most important part of catching the snapper. I call this mutton snapper rig Craigs Rig because he is the one who showed it to me. I guess Craig's Rig would be the proper spelling. Sure enough this mutton rig can catch anything bottom fishing! I think it's my all time best fishing rig. It's my favorite fishing rig. Craig's Rig all day!
The crazy thing is this mutton rig has wire. We catch monster mutton snapper on wire! Everyone says not to use wire with mutton snapper but guess what, this is a catch clean cook. So the wire sure did work for mutton snapper. And yellowtail snapper. And grouper! That's right. We catch a black grouper and red grouper. Too bad grouper are out of season or they would have been a catch n cook
So many fish monsters coming on the boat here in Key Largo Offshore! I'm already thinking about a snapper recipe. But I will let Dan from Florida Fishing Couple handle the snapper recipe. He cooks it up nice and fresh. I can taste South Florida melting in my mouth as we cook mutton snapper.
I added information on how to catch fish in this fishing video. So I hope I can help you also catch fish. Next time you visit the florida keys and do some offshore bottom fishing try this fishing rig out. Craig's Rig won't let you down. It's my new favorite snapper rig and mutton fishing rig, you'll be seeing this fishing rig a lot more on the South Florida Fishing Channel.
I hope you enjoyed this How to catch monster mutton snapper in Florida Keys Catch Clean Cook fishing episode on the South Florida Fishing Channel. Please leave a like and comment to show your support. Thank you!

I'm sure somewhere in these 120 comments somebody told you about fish descending devices, if so I apologize for the repeat of information-- if not then I am glad to present them to you! Being from Washington state, there are many rockfish/ bottomfish species that cannot be kept, and must be released, which can be a problem when reeling fish up from 100+ feet when their swim bladders expand. when puncturing the swim bladder you may see you fish swim away, but it won't survive long because they cant return fully to the bottom because the water pressure breaks through the hole at deep depths. on the west coast we use "fish descending devices" to safely return to the bottom where the pressure equalizes the swim bladder and they continue with their ordinary fishy lives! sorry for the long comment, but I think you'll enjoy safely returning fish when you get you device!

You do realize the drag and clicker on a conventional reel. Are entirely separate and in no way interact with each other?? And who cares he can use a spinning reel upside down for all I care. Heiko lives the life we should all aspire to live ourselves. That being said it drives me crazy lol.
