Cliff would have been so proud of James man. So proud.
@@szczur0192 what do u mean?
I know exactly what you mean
Cliff is very proud of the boys
Agreed
I agree
Coolest grandparents ever
I swear
Camo care bear Oh yea!!!
IDK Ozzy seems pretty damn cool
They're not old enough to be grandparents.
Jay cats
Sure they are. Mid-50’s is average age for first time grandparents. Mine were 56 when I was born, and that’s how old they are now. But, their kids aren’t old enough to be parents yet.
This guitar in Kirk's hands sounds like heaven.
@NuBz Kirk does it**
well Satan was in heaven before
Have you been in heaven?
Cool...
Really cool...
wah wah wah wah? to much wah for this lespaul
dude that's 2 million USD guitar...............
And James still has the best damn down sweep of any Rhythm guitarist....EVER!!!!!
True
If you've ever tried his alternating picking, you'll ask how his hand hasn't detached, I have arthritis from play Master of Puppets (jk it's really good though)
If you've ever tried his alternating picking, you'll ask how his hand hasn't detached, I have arthritis from play Master of Puppets (jk it's really good though)
His precision with his left hand is pretty God like aswel!!
James is the king of down picking, but remember Kirk is right there down picking along side him. James has said his right hand speed is a result of him and Kirk egging each other on to play faster in the early days.
Why is nobody commenting on how badass Robert’s Bass looks?
Because I like the simplestic look Jason’s has and I like how cliff’s looked like a guitar with the pick guard
Because no one cares about bass (i'm joking)
imo he's relic bass is the most fucking coolest bass ever
@@alangiunta1888 you had me in the first half ngl
@@alangiunta1888 that's what they originally thought for the AJFA era lmao
This song got me into Metallica when I was 13 or 14. Me and a friend were hanging out in a park in Hazel Grove, England...... when another friend came running up with his walkman (with the flimsy metal band headphones with orange foam ears) and said "listen to this!". It was the intro to Sanatarium and I was sold. My first Metallica song, and my favorite Metallica song. Good memories.
I have a similar story but with fade to black. My friend showed me it about a year ago and I was hooked. I'm 14 now
Welcome home and Fade to Black - my first Metallica's songs and still ones of my favourite🖤
I am 46 years old and I think I was about 10 or 11 when I heard the Master of puppets album and it was sanitarium that got me hooked I understand it was amazing and still is 🤘🤘
I know Hazel Grove. Been on a few piss ups down that way
@John Lydon ain't it weird that we were first introduced to the Master of puppets album and then had to go backwards to hear the first two and my mind was then blown away even more 🤘🤘
Best performance of Sanitarium I've heard in a while
You should listen to the version they did in basel, switzerland in 1993 in my opinion the best version they have done
1989 was the best
In 1993 Kirk messed up the solo
Lars is pretty dogshit in this performance, especially in the first clean intro and verse
best Welcome home since 2003 Germany
And again, Kirk is playing that amazing 1959 Les Paul Standard that was previously owned by Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green, that Kirk paid $2 million dollars for. Hell yeah!!!!!
And he's getting better...can't you tell... 😉
He loves it...like it's his baby
that makes us actually realize how rich he really is
@@djek1976 ayyy
And it is absolutely beautiful, it sings even through those axefx rack thingimabobs they use live these days.
Kirk is using that special Les Paul again.. my god that lead tone. Easily best sounding guitar he has.
Sureee ! That's one special sounding Les paul , Grenny ❤️
Jeremy Gary moore‘s Original Burst!
@@northernaccent369 No way. Is it really?
ESP
@@blownonfuel Even better, it was Peter Green's before Gary Moore's 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. It's an absolute treasure and I'm so glad to see Kirk actually using. It's been in the hands of some masters and continues to be through Kirk.
Kirks absolutly nailing that solo
He should, he wrote it .
@@Xander_Parkthat’s not how it works 😂
The ripper nailing the solo! The vocals, everything is just perfect!
And a great California crowd!
If you like soft rocks
@@sararaeyule who doesn't XD
The fact that they are still rocking in their late 50s gives me the hope that I might be able to see them live some day before they retire
I'm pretty sure they'll play until they croak. They've been doing this just for the love of performing for 25 years, I'd imagine.
Like wise
I can safely say that I have seen them play. Once. I swear I will see them again. It will happen.
Don't wait too long!

please come to mars... martians love metallica too
Uranus next.
I always makes jokes about that, I tell people that Metallica is the only band no matter the genre, that has performed on every continent on the planet, freeze em all did it for them, it made their dream come true. So I say now it's time for them to rock out on Mars lol. So that makes your comment so awesome lol.
First band to play off planet earth= Metallica?
@@gasmaskedbassist1538 Lol you/we can't say that just yet he he. I'm not even sure that would even be possible lol. If aliens really do exist would they really be fans? I highly doubt it, plus does Mars have oxygen? I know it's just a joke, but is it possible? I know it would cost a pretty fucking penny.
@@JerryAsbury1985 I was joking there but it could be a possibility, 30 years out? And there are traces of oxygen on Mars as recent discoveries have shown life currently on Mars (micro organisms) and I'm personally not one to believe it until I see it so I'm not sure aliens exist (even though the chance they exist is high I'm aware)
One of those songs that actually sounds better today than back in the glory days, the band’s sounding extremely tight recently, really need to see them live
Zodasg I wasn't able to get tickets to the show in my city and I regret not looking more into it
LOL, no
Tight? Lol, I mean I like the performance but it doesn't sound right, it's so uneven in fact
I was thinking the same thing, it's been 25 years since I seen them
Yea brother, the sound has been amazing these last few years. Just incredible.
Classic Metallica! Growling James, thundering Robert, Lars beating the backbone of it all, and Kirk playing everything from sparkling solos around the melody to shredding the teeth out of the wind. Seriously, meditation music for a metalhead!
I went to this Concert lost my voice the next day, happiest day of my life, and will always be in my memory, Metallica FOREVER!!
I so wanted to go to this concert! The first time I saw Metallica was at Summer Sanitarium Aug 2003 and then at the Save Mart Center when they toured with Godsmack in 2004....
I was there too! Killer show

I was 16 and in a half way house for alcohol addiction when one of the guys handed me a cassette tape labeled Metallica: And Justice for All. Put my headphones on and pressed play. I had never heard sounds like that before! I was hooked! I was into Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Twisted Sister and Van Halen. Metallica was from another planet! After I wore that tape out I discovered Ride the Lightning! I had gotten to the lowest point in my life and decided to end it. I played Fade to Black over and over and swallowed 3 bottles of pills and chugged a pint of crown royal. I literally faded to black. I woke up 3 days later in ICU. Then in a “Sanitarium.” So, I can relate to Metallica’s songs more than any others. Metallica has always been in my playlist and will continue to be! 🤘🏻
Sad your history dude
Glad your still here dude!
Half way house at 16? I gotta call bullsh@t on that. You have to be 18 for that. Trust me, bro. Been there and back

3 bottles of pills and you lived? cool story bro
The best thing about this is seeing the youth of today upfront in the crowd keeping Metallica alive.. I'm almost 50 years old now and I was in the same place watching them over 25 years ago.. To today's generation 👏👏👏
All hail. The mighty Metallica. I hope my great grandchildren listen to them. And think damn my great grandfather used to bang his head to this music
I’ve seen Metallica three times and they never cease to impress. They sound just as good live as they sound on recordings. Without a doubt one of the best bands ever. In fucking deniable.
Rob put bass playing to another level🤘🤘🤘
Oh my god, James' vocals are so damn goooood. Whole band nailed it really
God of metal guitarist Kirk excellent play
These solos of kirk can melt anyone's heart in an instant

Kirk sounded straight out of the MOP studio version FTW
Best 2 million dollars Kirk has ever spent!!! Thanks Kirk! Awesome! Just brings life back to the old school songs again!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
My first Metallica song. My dad was driving me to school when I was about 6. Our car had a cassette player and he put in the tape for Master of Puppets and this was the first song that came on. I’m 17 now and I thank my dad for my love of metal. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
One of their best songs next to Fade to Black and other classics

I hope Kirk at least took that Les Paul to dinner before this performance. That was insane
Ive been listening to the boys for 34+ yrs...i had planned to go to at LEAST one concert this tour but for health reasons i couldnt....im so broken-hearted that i missed them, i listen to them every single day....anything and everything Metallica is my lifeblood...♥ you guys so much!! Good luck overseas...
The heaviness of this
Absolutely insane!!!
Words cannot describe how much I love these legends!
bruh.. as many times as ive heard this song.. its like its brand new each time
that "Metallica" sound...so distinctive, so crisp. I love it.
I dont know what you think, but for me, this is the best performance of this song. The tone is perfect, lars keeping a tight and steady tempo, kirk nailing every solo on his peter green les paul, james singing perfectly with perfect articulation, bass loud, the beautiful clean riff (i know that its actually the rainbow worrior riff by bleak house), tight distorted parts, and that enchanting bass intro with the volume swells that make it sound like a cello, but best, that moment of silence, respect and mystery in the cliff-esque intro and then the audience goes wild when the main riff comes in.
Yes.
I AGREE!!!
Lars is rushing tho
Well, doesnt he always?
I think it serves a certain rush and tension to the already fast second section. Anyways, at least he wasnt going off the rails.
I know nothing about guitars...but this is epic.
You could hear one lady in the background shouting “OH MY GOD!!!”
Finally got to see them! Loved the whole concert
Why are they getting old😭
On songs like these, James's voice has aged so unbelievably well. His vocals here sound so much better than the way he sang this song in the old days, it's amazing.
As kid the opening riff gave me instant goosebumps, so many years later same instant effect. Brilliant song.
METALLICA IS THE BEST BAND ON EARTH. LOOK HOW OLD THEY BECAME BUT STILL HAVE THE ENERGY.
Its rare that I like a live version of a song more than the studio recorded version but this is one of them, its so good
Absolutely amazing! I love Kirk's intro to this song. Keep rocking guys! 🤘🤘
Favourite track of the whole arsenal. The vocals, the riffs, the solos, the drums. Everything just perfect in my eyes.
That tape before the song is so amazing. It’s so mysterious and calm and it was also something I had never seen before so it was like this new part of Metallica that was being introduced to me. I’ll never forget the feeling of being so confused yet so excited for what was about to come
This one goes out to you who battled the physical, mental, and spiritual battles. These gentlemen where there from grade school throughout adulthood. Thank you all. 🇺🇲🙏💪✝️👑

This is pure gold this song is a masterpiece and James sounds raw 🤟
I first heard this song while walking down a dark alley after school on a rainy day.. it was during a depressive episode I was in, it was absolutely mesmerizing and an experience I’ll never forget. Metallica became my favorite band since then and I can easily say they changed my life for the better. Sanitarium is one of the best Metallica live performances nowadays! James, Kirk, Rob and Lars just do a great playing!
I saw Metallica open for Ozzy at Kemper Arena, Kansas City, 1986. By the time Ozzy took the stage, the acid had kicked in pretty hard but I still remember these guys. My neck was sore for weeks
Bro, greatest birthday gift ever! Thanks Metallica
God I Love this music
I remember way back in '86, when I was an exchange student in Kentucky. I brought this song to my psychology class for a listen through with teacher/ coach Gaddie and my classmates. Not too many of them had ever heard of Metallica, but they found the lyrics quite interesting I recall. Coach Gaddie btw was a tough nut, both as a teacher & football coach! He once tried to set me up in class in fornt of my mates by asking me to spell Mississippi, which he assumed I would spell wrong since I am from Norway, but I spelled it correct and the laugh was on him! Goach Gaddie's nickname for me, the foulspeaking cunt, was "Norwegian Roosterfish", haha he had a good sense of humor!
There is just NO topping Metallica
this are my fav song. metalilca forever
So powerfull song! Metallica forever!
Conspiracy theories is cliff haunting Rob?
You mean possessed?
@@thegoodguy44
Ironic. You made yourself look like a douchebag by calling him one! Nice job "Good Guy".
I think Cliff would think Rob is too normal for METALLICA
Cliff was the epitome of what Metallica was at that time. When he passed, so did that band. Jason was taken in, and that was the beginning of a new Metallica. Notice how robotic, and droney sounding ...And Justice For All sounded? Jason was good, but he wasn't the musician that Cliff was. He didn't bring that much to the table. Metallica lost their drive. They didn't have that fluid feel that they did with Cliff. Burton was already an accomplished musician by the time he'd made Metallica move to Frisco, what he brought the world was some of the most beautiful music there is. After Jason split they had Bob Rock play bass on that album(St. Anger). When Rob was brought in he became the man. I felt that he added a new flavor to Metallica. It's Rob's time. Cliff inspires those who truly love and respect him. I feel as if he is now a divine being fit for any aspiring bass player. Haunting comes from jealousy. Spiritual enlightenment may be what we're seeing there. Or, just the fact that Rob is a killer finger style bassist?
Metallica had 3 of the best bassists through the time. Glad that they have Rob at all
Still one of my favorites!!!!! This song relaxes me. Just absolutely beautiful
Can’t wait to see you guys in April
I'm waiting for You in Bucharest ! Legends ! ❤️❤️
I think that's the best performance of this song I've ever seen. The intro, the solos, the vocals, bass and drums, the energy... Everything is so on point I was hypnotized the whole video! Also the crowd is amazing, the cheels when the song begins and they're all screaming
That has got to be by far one of the best live performances of Sanitarium I have ever heard!!!!
Kirk has never stopped improving, hes better at this age than he ever was in my opinion
KIRK IS ON FIREEEEEEE 🔥
Amazing!
Was at this show with my 12 year old son! It was rocking.
Just perfect !! I love this song 🤘👌
Great performance .. i wish i was there .. phenomenal !
Wow Lars nailed the tempo on this one! :metal:
he was rushing. Not constantly but he was. You could easily tell. But overall yeah, Lars is doing good last couple of years so far!
Can't we just frickin enjoy instead of debating ever beat of the drum and every pluck of the strings good greif
@@SuperZoos a debate is always good. as long as there are no insults, so I really don't get your point. It's obvious that most of us over here are enjoying Metallica. Why would we be here in the first place if it is not that? But a good debate is always welcome!
I agree. In this performance his timing is much better than usual. Rushed some parts, but overall, he did damn good
guitars were awesome. Lars was weak in this one. I love the guy forever, but.... this was not good. overall the guitars took over and James killed it too so...
the intro solo is godly
Well played! I listened to this song over and over on my SONY Walkman cassette player when I was a kid aged 10 on my first international flight from Germany to Chicago. Whenever I hear this song, it brings back memories of sitting on that plane and staring out the window as a kid. It feels like yesterday, but it's been 33 years now
3 Decades later and they're still amazing
