I think we're all forgetting the true star of this music video, I mean, come on! Obviously it's the little white twinkle lights.
I like the idea of Rabbit and Zero singing from the darkness watching Spine having a go at a crisis.
Because of the guitar, we really don't see David's herky-jerky robot motions. This is perfect--the minimalist approach, the chair, bald Spine. A winner! AND IN ONE SHOT!

The Spine doesn’t skip leg day
If I remember right he has a spinal condition that makes it painful to sit, so he stands most of the day every day even when traveling. There is a couple of shots on the "Way to Your Heart" video where is standing on their tour bus while it going down the road. Also, he's wearing flare legged pants

@@keighlysocha5364 He acknowledged the comment in his recent Instagram post (don't worry, he thinks it's funny!). He also mentioned having sciatica, which is why he spends most of his time standing.
@@threekeysmusic Surprisingly, that isn't actually where the robot name comes from. According to some of their podcast stuff, he'd had the online handle spineraptor when he was growing up and The Spine's name came from that, while back issues didn't become a thing until around 2012-ish.

It will happen, steampunk has steadily become more known, even our steampunk event in Tucson, Wild wild west steampunk con, shows growing attendance every year ... I agree with you tho, with so much music that relies on altering the artist's voice, lots of instruments and bling floods the music scene but this is raw talent, amazing voices, engaging characters e.t.c these "guys" deserve a bit of mainstream's airtime.

I love how every character has a kind of theme to their songs. Hatchworths previous songs and, now, Zero are kind of silly and fun. Spine comes across as romantic and love oriented/lost love and Rabbit is very heartbroken/sad, but sometimes very upbeat and positive (Malfunction comes to mind). That's not counting the group songs where they all act and sing together.
You forgot The John and Upgrade who also has a song
I feel like Rabbit's songs has to do with her being trans, she's finally realizing who she really is and singing for the lost years where she wasn't living as she wanted to be. At least that's how I see it.

I am absolutely enamored by the decision to end the song with the word "and." It's the ultimate "show don't tell" and really emphasizes how emotional the song is, and how it uses that emotion to convey meaning. From my reading of it, this is a song about a relationship that ended poorly. Ending the song, then, with "we gave love a chance, and..." says everything by saying nothing. The Spine put faith in love, and was let down. But instead of spelling it out to the listener, y'all let the passion of the performance do that work. Really wonderful writing!
42_Violets I TOTALLY FEEL THAT, the whole way this is acted, teamed with the lyrics and choices they made to convey the message. I can’t put it into words the way you did but oh man, I really really felt it, it’s an emotional masterpiece
My sort of headcannon interpretation is that it could also be a loop. In code, you can have a statement that essentially repeats itself endlessly, when it ends it just starts again from the beginning. Essentially, it could represent a broken relationship with two people who love each other but simply aren't compatible for one reason or another but they keep trying anyway, even though it keeps breaking down like clockwork.

Its hard to believe that almost 7 years ago my best friend (r.i.p now 😥) introduced me to spg with the song Brass goggles, the first time i listened to it i knew he had gifted me with something special, my hope is to one day actually get to see spg play live (its hard as i live in the UK).

I’ve just ended a 3 year relationship that was also long distance for at least 50% of the time. I’m in the UK and he’s in the US. It was a really hard choice, but this really really hits home. We lived together for a while too, it’s hella heavy but this is really helping. “All the little pieces make so much sense in the distance, fragmented to the point of is it possible.” Plus it just wasn’t helping my mental health, aka “the things he didn’t sign up for”. Same here. I discovered them about 2-3 months ago. Listened to honeybee first, and that vocal harmony in the first verse "start a flame" had me fucking sold. I then delved head first into all of it hard. Can't get enough of them.

David is so talented at writing lyrics and music in general. The storytelling, the singing, acting is all wonderful. I love that we have a new Spine song. I can't wait to see how this song fits into the new album and the story it all tells.
I know I'm probably off base, but it almost sounds like a poly relationship that soured.
I know I'm 9 months late to this comment, but honestly that was my take as well. The line "Love is infinite like sun rays" really drove the poly idea through for me. This song also came out when a poly relationship I was in had soured, and everything he sings about in this really just felt like he was talking about what I had gone through. It's probably off base, but it's definitely possible; I'm pretty sure Bunny has talked about having multiple partners in her vlogs in the past, so it wouldn't be too shocking.
That Patreon read off made me so happy and I wasn't even on the list. I love when bands acknowledge their fans/supporters like that.

I've listened and listened. I've broken down the lyrics. I've studied the movement. I don't know how to describe it. It melds together like it was straight. I want to say that this felt real. I think that there's more personal emotion in this one song than any others.
Side note: if a radio station hasn't picked this up, it should. I think this was better than any mainstream I have heard in at least a decade.

Is it bad that this is literally my most relatable breakup song and it makes my bawl my eyes out?
This song is very poetic. I struggle a lot with putting my own thoughts and experiences and emotions into words, so I try to take in as much art and music and poetry as possible to try and relay what's going on inside of my head.
This was one of those pieces for me that was able to express my experiences while listening along and reading the words. I struggle so hard sometimes with who and what I am. I struggle with monsters that come from the inside of my own head, things I feel like I have no control over. Things that I'm afraid of, things that don't feel like they're me. I dissociate so often, it's hard to work through the things going on in your heart when the heart doesnt even feel like it's yours in the first place. But these thoughts, this heart, this brain, these monsters, they're all mine. It's all me. Healing doesn't take a day or a month, healing can take a lifetime. And that's living. I'm always looking ahead for when things will be better but the better could be here, the better could be now. Nothing changes overnight and it's naive of me to expect my life to flip so suddenly.
I've always felt so guilty for struggling with myself because my husband has to see me this way. I know all he wants is for us to be a team and for us to be okay. There are days I don't recognize my own personality. I snap and I cry, sometimes I don't even talk. But he's always stood by me, willing to help, willing to take my hand, willing to love, willing to prompt me to know myself again. He helps me see myself for who I am and who I could be. He helps me to love myself by knowing that he loves me as much as I love him, so I must be worth the love we share after all. It's a work in progress and that's was life is to me.
If you've gotten this far reading, thank you for listening. And I just wanted to thank David for this song and the rest of SPG. You all work so hard and are so good at knowing the human heart.. despite being automatons. 😙

I used to travel all over for these guys. Met them the first day Hatchworth performed with them. So many photos, so many conventions, a fan meet up for Michael Reed. It's great seeing how far they've come
This is why we call them music artist ( or we did at one point). This song hits multiple levels for all kinds of people. No matter your situation, background, etc.. heck it is sung by a Robot! Well done. We need more artists like this band.

It's as simple as this. Spine probably said they wouldn't do full head make up. Then he decided to shave his head and it became an option.

I've had this song on repeat for about an hour now. The Spine will always be my favorite in SPG and this song in particular truly highlights David's vocal talents. The writing is top notch as well. Love this song.

Oh my god, everytime I think SPG is getting a bit too "kid's band" David releases an amazing song like this. I absolutely love the art style for the video and I dig the new look, your robot miming is always on point 👌 great song guys! I hope to hear more like this :)
