    "We're your ally!"
    The Cardassians probably said the same thing. Also, I'm surprised no one laughed when Kira said the Bajoran fleet would guarantee the planet's safety.

    They shoulda just compromised to have half their weapons there but under strict Bajoran supervision & control. Further the compromise by adding for every 1 Romulan soldier they have 3 Bajoran soldiers to supervise them. It is their moon after all so they could've easily justified it too & it would've been totally justifiable too. That way they'd still have those defenses, but they would be under Bajoran control. Also have a few Starfleet officers there to act as a neutral 3rd party moderator in case of further disputes over protocol if the compromise was agreed too. That's how I'd have handled it anyway cause they really did need to keep their defenses fortified. To leave themselves that exposed was a huge gamble that very easily could've backfired.

    • @danieldickson8591
      @danieldickson8591 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I strongly doubt the Romulans would have agreed to putting their weapons under Bajoran control. Even DS9 only stocked 4,000 photon torpedoes, the Romulans put 7,000 plasma torpedoes on that moon, without notifying Bajor or the Federation. That wasn't defending a hospital, that was staking a claim.

      I imagine the hospital was blockaded on the ground as well, no? If not, the Bajorans could have targeted it from space.

      Again, the Bajorians remind me of the WW2 French.
      No real ability to contribute but demand that they are obeyed.
      The point is the Bajorians are in no position to not allow anything.
      All the real powers have to do is ignore them and tell them to shut up.

    • @szahmad2416
      @szahmad2416 Před 10 měsíci

      @@tomb7942 I'll amend that: allowed only by the Bajoran government's authorization.
      And allowing thousands of photon torpedoes on the surface of the moon in and around a hospital are very different from warships in space.
      And yes, the Bajorans DO have leverage...the Federation needed them, and needed no disruptions next to that wormhole. You're right about the WW2 French...but also forgot to mention that the leverage that the French had was that they were the important gateway to Germany, and the Allies couldn't win without getting them on their side, and removing the Vichy French allies of the Germans. Power to disrupt/contribute that last bit to major plans is almost as big leverage as actually being a major player in those plans; that's how minority parties are able to leverage majority parties in parliament, for example.

      Romulans were being classic Romulans by not really wanting to engage but to just test their enemy. In this case the enemy was not the Bajorans, but the Federation. Even though technically allies during the war, they still saw them as adversaries, just as Sloan pointed out.

      @@GORT70Romulans should be able to use transporters while cloaked. See STIV and all the beaming that bird of prey did. However I think some confusion comes in because at various points when Federation ships obtained a cloaking device it wasn't designed for - it messes up Federation transporters and people tend to remember that. Though of course I can't rule out some counter example.
