- CRUISE TIPS #16a, PACK EXTRA MEDICATION
People often get their medication ready for a cruise and plan out each day they are away. However something can happen and can delay your return home. You don't want to run out of needed medication if this happens.
I really enjoy these tips even though some of them are just common sense for me. But I'm sure what is common sense to me will prove helpful for another. Thanks Don and keep them coming.
Excellent information. I add 5 days worth of my meds on each trip.
Actually a very good tip DON, so many people get excited for the cruise and trip and don't think about travel delays or the unexpected.
Definitely a good tip, Dan! We were on the carnival freedom two years ago when the whale tail caught on fire and we had to stay several extra days in grand Turk. Some members of my family were among the many who did not have extra medication for those extra three days.now we always take an extra four or five days with us.
Absolutely! Plan for the unexpected!
Definitely pack extra meds. That's a must for us.
Always, always!!
We were stuck in Mexico on 911. I always take a few extra days of meds, especially the most important ones. I can live without fish oil.
I know you do a great job and you’re Mr. Cruise line. And you also bring us amazing points of view from our Canadian roots. But can say half or more of your tips. Reply to travel in general like this one.. anytime my wife leaves the home. We’re going to visit in-laws driving flying cruising you always make sure you have like two weeks supply extra especially if it’s very important medication. It’s just fiber pills and one vitamins that’s not crucial and it can be like a week extra. Thank you for all the tips. I’m sure people are benefiting from your knowledge.
Agreed! You never know when you may have a delay.
Great tip. I always bring another 1/2 as many as the trip. Came in handy when we had a chance at staying a couple extra days after our cruise.
Thanks for the important tip! Sometimes we need a reminder and use common sense
Makes so much sense. I take at least 1 month medication with me. They are pills and do not take up any space. I also make sure my medication is in my pocket book or carry on luggage. So simple
I always pack 7 extra days of medication. Good advise, Thanks.
very good advice. I agree that bringing extra medication is an excellent idea
We always make sure we have at least two and a half weeks of extra prescribed medication with us in our carry-on.
I use the Week at a Time Pill organizer. With that, I always travel with an extra weeks pack.
We always take extra and in original bottles in case of an emergency refill. And carry it with your carry-on not checked luggage in case it gets lost. Air lines don't forward your luggage to your next island, stop only your destination.
And put the meds I. Your carry on- always
Always. And meds go in the carry on not the checked luggage.
Plan Plan Plan. The most important part of traveling.
Great tip. Will do so for all my future cruises.
Good tip- The one problem I have had in the past in bringing extra medication and barely having enough medication during my cruise is when the okay to refill date for my prescription falls in the middle of the cruising dates and the pharmacy refuses to refill it before the cruise because it is considered too early for refilling by the insurance company.
The pharmacy can phone the physician for approval.
@@cruisecrazy7066 Thank you for the suggestion. I will try that next time to see if that will work.😊
Try calling the insurance company and explaining the situation. Many times, they will allow an earlier refill.
@@jacquelyns9709 Thank you for your suggestion
Great tip and I make sure I carry extra, at least a week!
I've always done this. I expect delays on ships, resorts or flights.
Great advice
I started doing this a few years ago because I concerned the ship breaking down in the middle of sea/ocean
Yep. This is a super great tip!!
It is good to see you back, it has been a while! Thank you for the info. Love your content
Also always keep your medication with/on you during travel days. Luggage can get lost and delayed, and even carry-on baggage can be made to be checked baggage when boarding, which in turn can be lost or delayed.
You are spot on Don. I always take extra meds with me just in case..
You are so right!
Always spot on! Thanks
Thank you for the tip.
Great topic! Thank you for your tips!!
Spot on, Don.
On really important meds we just take the whole bottle. You never know what might happen but we do also keep extras at home too.
Good tip as always, keepem coming!
Thanks for the tips
Great tip!!!
Great advice. 👍
Always a great tip.
Thanks Don always make sure you have extra you never know what delays you may run into.
Good idea!
Another great tip Don!
Good info. Thanks for update
Ask the pharmacist for another bottle printed of the med for you to decant into- too many bring a pill case and all unmarked
Keep up the good work!
We do the same with additional labels on pill bottles!
Also, I bring (probably too much!) over the counter medicine like cold/flu, Benadryl and gut. It's super expensive on the ship and supply is limited... and it can let you help out other cruisers who might need something. 😊
I usually bring the full box - about a month's supply ... JUST IN CASE!
good thinking
Great tips
very good suggestion - we don't always think of delays!!
Great tips Don we are on it in case anything could happen
Good video because you never know about delays!!
Hey Don great tipm
I try to bring read or any scenario I can think of, because Murphy's Law follows me around....lol....
Some meds are life saving for individuals, it' cruicial to have several extra days in case of an emergency.
I do true I always bring a few extra days
Bring copies of prescription or some documentation from pharmacy that shows you need x amount per day. Customs can get ansty if you bring too much medication with you.
I had a cruise experience for 8 days and I didn't bring 3 of my pills, but I was able to get them in their clinic as I carry a slip with what my meds are and dosage. We ended up using cruise credits as it cost $125 for them. They didn't have my specific ones but for the 8 days they worked. Very grateful for them stupid on my part. Now the first thing I pack are my meds and a few days extra supply.
You are very lucky that the cruise credits worked. On our last cruise, one member of our family got the flu so they gave everyone the medicine as a prophylactic. Even though we had tons of cruise credit remaining, we still had to pay for the medicine. The cruise line said they couldn't be applied to any medical center charges.
Newbie here. Please talk about, in detail, how to transport prescriptions (with consideration to different classes of drugs) and over the counter drugs and vitamins. Can I just use a medicine day planner for the what I take daily? Do I have to have original bottles for everything? What about very large (Costco, Sam's Club) size bottles? Do I really have to use those or can I just use an old prescription bottle with my own labels (for stuff I take as needed). Would taking a readable picture of the label and the med help? I suspect you don't know the answer to everything I'm asking but hopefully others may be able to chime in about different things. More followup questions as needed: Can I mix prescription and OTC (meds and vitamins) in the day planner or do I have to keep separate? Should I have all my meds in carry-on or a few days with the rest in checked baggage? (This is if I have a lot of meds and OTC/vitamins or dealing with large bottles) ALSO!! Don't forget about getting those same meds through airport security, I know their rules are different and may have compatibility issues with cruise security. I know most people have no issues here but there are always sharp corner cases where you could lose the med or get denied boarding the cruise or the plane. (OUCH! Very sharp corners!)
Don't travel to Australia and/or New Zealand without having your prescription with you. Officers might have a look at it - happened to my husband with his heart medication.
I always double what I need...they're not gonna go to waste. No biggie
We always pack 2-3 days' worth of extra meds in case we're stuck at sea!!
I always bring double amounts
Hi Don talking about medication I take 4 different pills so i always have a full pack of each (28) more than I need cheers Don
Always be prepared for the worst.
We usually take a week extra just incase of an emergency
I always bring an extra week of meds.
I always have a weeks extra.
Expect delays .... be prepared... now, you can relax!!!😅
Its common sense for me...
But probably absolutely breaking news for some people.
Yes, it's common sense.
Probably shouldn't be going far from home if you didn't already know these things.
I always take an extra week with me
always
How do I get on one of your cruises Don?❤
You can’t go wrong with extra days of medication and underwear!
I don't take any meds so no need
Wassup
How does it work with pills & Customs Don? Do they need to be in original prescription bottles?
Yes they need to be in original labeled bottles. And things like eye drops have to have the label attached to the bottle not the box.
