I use "OK Google" - "Take a note" or "Note to self". As Google Keep is my default notes app, it will save the audio file directly in there and convert it to text. Amazing!
I use most of these features now. Another that I find useful is the ability to share a note with a friend. We are collaboratively creating a list of great walking trails. Love Keep!
Thanks for these tips, Scott. Grab image text is great. I snap a lot of photos of information boards in museums. This makes reading them later a lot easier than scrolling around photos!
The location based reminder blew my mind.....totally useful for a scatter brain like me!!! If you swipe up on the drawing tools I/o long touch that too opens up the options. Also the little arrow on the side once you open the options side offers a lot more colours.
These videos are GOLD! I'm wondering if there's a way to add multiple reminders? For example, adding a time AND location reminder to one task? Thanks again for these great resources!
I truly enjoy these very useful tips that apply to the various apps. I often use Google Keep notes. The best tip for me was the one about grabbing an image. I was unaware of this function in Keep and will be using it just to discover it's various uses. I use Keep notes on my mobile devices, I find it most useful when I am using my Chromebook. I often use Keep notes in conjunction with Google Docs, so maybe a video of tips on how to take advantage of the integration between Keep notes and Google Docs would be helpful. I also find the presentation of these videos to most excellent!!! Happy New Year and have a BLESSED Year!!!
I've had this app for like a year now, and never knew i could do those things, thank you for this video! Very helpful in taking notes since i'm learning this quarantine!
Thanks for the useful information it's so great to hear what can organise your life! My favourite was the location reminders for time and place! I will use it and check it out. Thanks for the tips!
Hey Scott! Love your channel (especially this video)! I recently began using Notion but quickly realized that Google Keep is better for quickly capturing notes on the go (thinking of the "capture" step in the Getting Things Done process). But I'm thinking of using Notion to later process my quick notes from Google Keep into a more permanent/actionable state. Do you have a similar system, advice, or thoughts of whether that type of system would work? Thanks a bunch!
Great App & great tips...I thought #5 the location reminder option could be helpful to remind us to watch our speed when we're getting close to the speed cameras that send us those wonderful "traffic donation" notices in the mail when they catch us not paying attention to our driving speed because our minds our occupied with our business thoughts 😊 Thanks for all your tips and videos. GRH!
Thank you for the tips. I am using Google Keep more and more and seeing the features being used is so helpful. I often get caught up in my day and forget about the other buttons and features. I appreciate the time and effort you put into explaining things.
Dear Scott. Congratulations for your simple and clear video. I would like to ask you about one possible Keep's function but, at first, I will set a scenario: - imagine you are an Engineer and your job would be to inspect several issues in a building: windows, pavements, paintings, walls, etc. So, you might use google Keep to picture any issues and label each photo and record one brief explanations why the picture shows one issue. At this point I would ask you: could we label each taken picture in Google Keep? how could we accomplish it? Regards, Jorge
Great question. Yes, you could use labels for each note or combine multiple labels within a single note that contains multiple pictures. I hope that helps!
@@Simpletivity But, in the single note with multiples pictures, is it possible label, or tag, or insert a legend joinned to each picture? I mean, one picture of a "broken window", other picture of a "wornout wall" and other picture with a "unpavemented floor" all of these in one note, could it? Regards, jorge
I use Keep all the time to create lists. I frequently use the audio function to add items to the list. It is much quicker than typing. One trick is to say "new line" at the end of each item, and Keep will drop down to the next line and create a new item. When I am done, I will select the checkbox feature and all the items will be given checkboxes. If you choose checkboxes first, "new line" still works, but the mic is turned off so you have to re-select the mic to dictate the next item on the new line. I have tried other formatting words like "backspace" or "delete word," but they don't work. "Period" works to insert a period as shown in the video. It would be nice to know if there are other formatting words that work.
Update and Apologies. I found out how to use these functions. Microphone at top of keyboard converts voice to text. The + sign at left has a record option which records voice AND translates to text. Long pressing on a photo gives another menu that DOES have grab text option. Sorry I didn't investigate these options before I commented 👍 👍
What I'd like to know is the voice command in Assistant to get it to *_read the note aloud;_* I've read articles which say that you can both record *_and play back_* your audio notes, but none of them tell you the actual _command!_ I've tried "read my Keep notes" and "read my last Keep note" but all it does is reply with how many notes I've made and _show_ me the note on the screen. Basically, I'm a freelance writer and I have my best ideas while walking (or while pushing a broom at my day job) - it would be great if I could not only _make_ notes by voice command but also _hear them back_ while I'm walking or working without having to look at my phone, so I can keep track of my article ideas while I'm using my hands for other things. At this point I don't really care whether it's a playback of the audio file or if Assistant reads the text of the note back to me using TTS, so long as I can pick up my thoughts where I left off after talking to someone or cleaning a particularly stubborn toilet bowl.
It's really good to know the productive tools. Thanks for sharing and enlightening. Can you also compare it with Microsft One Note and see if there is some interconnectivity between them.
Love Google Keep. Use it everyday. Great video. I find though that the location reminders are hit or miss. I have several set up for stores that I visit. And sometimes get a notification after I've already left. LOL
Grab text. That alone will have me reaching for Google Keep far more often. I’d actually been looking for a stand alone app that would do this if I decide to ditch Evernote in favor of Notion. Now I’m good! Thanks!
Also. To add an extra line in between other lines. Instead of tapping the + ( plus ) sign at the bottom & then dragging your new line all the way up to the position you want it at. You can tap on the end ( or middle if splitting ) of an existing line and then press enter & it creates a new line underneath the previous one.
Great tips. I didn't know about the text grab. I would add that you can have many separate Google keep accounts by adding new or different Gmail accounts if you want. For example one just for all notes and task for work, and another for personal. I now just use tags for that but others may find that useful. Waiting for exporting emails from Gmail to keep.
I use the "Grab text from image" all the time. I never used the audio feature before but would like to. Do you know if I can use this while driving hands-free? For some reason all my ideas come to me while I am driving. Any Ideas?
I'm not sure if Google Assistant can trigger this directly yet. However, they are currently in the process of rolling out more features for voice commands for Keep.
Great video and great tips, as usual. Thank you Scott. :-) A quick question for you. Although it's possible to use the search function to find a note containing a specific term, I cannot figure out how to search for that term then in the selected note. Thanks, very useful. Google Keep seems to load fast on my Android phone, compared to Evernote which a takes ages to open. I personally like the aesthetic look and feel. Only complaints: no list sorting and no markup text.
Thanks that was very useful... would love to know if keep can be used with Siri. All my reminders that I dictate too Siri end up in the iOS default reminders.
Hi Scott, me again! Do you have any idea why Keep tends to rotate images 90° to the left? When I first add an image to a note, it looks okay. But when I open Keep later on, the image is almost always turned sideways and there is no option to fix it. It's not a huge issue, as the notes I make with photos are only temporary, but it's still an annoyance. Thanks!
Great question, Dawn. I have experienced this in the past from time to time. But I'm not sure why. Perhaps it has something to do with what position the photo was taken? i.e. landscape vs portrait?
Hi Scott, I like the possibility to share a CZcams video and capture it directly into a Google Keep note (eventually with a label). For instance: all interesting YT videos about golf lessons, I keep them in Keep with the label Golf and a green background. Very handy when I search in my notes for the label 'golf' or the green background, also on my mobile device.
i know all these. next video about keep should be what things to save in google keep (what notes to write and what information to put in the app as a note)
Can I put a picture in the middle of a note? Ex: The dinner *Image of the plate* It was good. I REALLY want to insert pictures in the way of the note it's self fr. Plz tell me how?
*GOT A QUESTION*: How do i add multiple locations in a single Keep reminder. For instance there are two stores nearby me that i usually shop. How can i add both locations in my grocery list?
How can I hide the picture(s) on top of the notes? Sometimes they are so big that the note takes a full page on my iPad. I don't want to see the picture at first; I only want to see the picture when I open the note.
5:33 What I noticed here is that the voice recording is very quiet and muffled. This is obviously not due to the device (Google Pixel) or the microphone, because voice recordings in the Voice Recorder app or in WhatsApp are loud and clear
Great work! Thank you! Ok curious..I use almost all Apple products for hardware but g suite for work. I’ve been a real estate broker for almost 17 years. What’s the best...google keep, Apple notes, or Evernote? I jump around! 😂

Hey hey hey!! I been dying to know how can I leave a collaboration on Google keeps, can I remove my email from the collaborated note without deleting it? Please let me know
Keep has been my favourite app for ages. I find it very frustrating though that imperfections haven't been ironed out after all this time. The voice memo microphone closes in an eye blink of silence and makes it useless for anything but a short sentence. The record quality is barely intelligible too (could be my phone but a separate voice memo app is crystal clear). Period and new paragraph instruction rarely works, instead those words get inserted (for that reason alone I long ago gave up using voice for Docs). Lastly, it censors my notes, inserting asterisks where it doesn't approve of my language (really!?). The location reminder is the best idea ever but again, I've given up on it as it always comes too late. If I'm walking along a high street and will pass a shop I've set as a location reminder, it has all the approach steps to send an alert but it rarely comes until 1/4 mile (5 minutes) past the location, as if to taunt me that I forgot my shopping. Great ideas, bad implementation.
I am new to Google Keep. I uploaded a word doc to fill out with another collaborator and when I use different devices to input info it does not save. It only creates another blank doc and we cannot see each other 's notes.
That grab text tip blew my mind!!
So glad you like this feature, Cyn. Thanks for watching!
Michael Truong you have to select the image after you open the note. Works fine on my iPhone 7+.
Btw these days it can grab hand-written text too, not 100% correct always but good enough usually

Is there any way to password lock a note in Google keep ?
