  • The Schwarzschild solution in General Relativity (GR) introduces an effective 1/r^3 correction to the Newtonian 1/r gravitational potential. This correction prevents a non-circular orbit from closing, due to the precession of the apsides. This effect successfully explained the anomalous advance of the perihelion of the orbit of Mercury. Here the magnitude of the 1/r^3 correction from GR has been greatly exaggerated, making the resulting precession easy to see.
