This is my favorite perspective on what music will be like in the year 2000...on the show Look Around You, with one of my favorites, Peter Serafinowicz
I remember when I was sick i was watching this program, but I was half asleep..and I thought I dreamt the whole thing and tried to explain it to my family but they were like..WTF?!? haha
It had the misfortune to come out at a time when there was a lot of other very strong comedy, especially The Office and the very dark material that Julia Davis and Rob Brydon were doing. Also, I think you had to be born 1965-75 to appreciate it. It has affinities with Scarfolk and Hauntology. Nostalgia for a future that never happened, but which was nurtured by a "cradle to the grave" state that was on the one hand friendly and comforting, but which was also (behind the scenes) planning for all sorts of Cold War contingencies and atrocities that were never really openly discussed and could only be perceived as a sort of faint background hum of paranoia and fear that occasionally leaked through into things. Whatever that mood/world was it evaporated at some point in the 80s and you had to live through it, ideally as a child, to really get Look Around You, I think.
@@simonjones7727well this is a fairly comprehensive explanation! Can't argue with any of it. I will secretly hope this is the Simon Jones who uttered "This is your receipt for your husband; and this is my receipt, for your receipt".
+Joe Walker I thought the same thing, and I really like Jake Bugg. I sort of suspect that one of the writers of this show might not, though! Or it's coincidental, somehow...

The fact they never told us what Hi-Fi stands for is driving me nuts. My only recourse is to watch my favourite film "High Fidelity" starring John Cusack..
Not Mark - it's Kevin Eldon (he was in the hilarious Agent Smith Matrix send-up episode of Spaced, but I know him best from Big Train, which Mark also did).
Not a lot of time to deliver a project that he had such deliberative planning and involvement of so many pupils, and pre amble with such gravitas. Just shows how expensive video tape was in the 1980s, having to compress it all into 30 seconds

I love Tchaikovsky's little nod of approval after the operatic shriek
Thank you so much, Look Around You. This show has made me a loyal devotee of period-accurate production values and the VHS aesthetic in general.
Great performance from Kevin Eldon and they have certainly nailed the secondary school teacher circa 1980-81 look to perfection in costuming.
One of the few songs recorded in the key of S. Thanks, Kevin Eldon. Thevineldon.

Once this is in your head, it never leaves. NEVER.
That's actually really bloody catchy.
He seemed to be prescient about Mumford and Sons not to mention hipster beards.
ahahah I watched this sketch like... 10 years ago and since mumford and sons (and all that hipster music) had come up I just cant forget this guy.
They werent hipster beards in the 70s, they were just beards.
If ever I see a busker perform this he's getting a tenner
Mackadenu, I'madenu, Imakadenu, denu, denu
Mackadenu, I'madenu, makadenu, denu, denu

Ooooh, Aaaah-ah!
Mackadenu, I'madenu, mackatetr̃on, tetr̃on, tet. . .
Now write that down in your copybook.

I just ADORE Look Around You series 2. I really wish there had been more episodes, or that they would bring it back. Such a great programme!

That's a certified ingenious comment, and I don't even dislike the guy.
+Joe Walker I thought the same thing, and I really like Jake Bugg. I sort of suspect that one of the writers of this show might not, though! Or it's coincidental, somehow...

Exactly. I heard they only let him do one take, for that reason. Great for the kids to get that recognition, though.
