That's actually a pretty good opening to an article, especially for an esports writer not named Richard or Duncan. If I had come across the article in the wild, I would probably have continued reading based upon the first two graphs. Lad has some writing talent, I'll give him that.

Just smiling so big thinking about the HLTV posts from 10 years ago when the captain of that team had the "n word killer" knife tag at a sponsored tournament and they were fighting to the death that he shouldn't be questioned and he did nothing wrong and he's actually the least racist person alive even to people just suggesting "yeah probably shouldn't have your sponsors name/ads in the same place as that knife name". Genuinely charming going back through those, must be the getting old

The mention of arguing from the others perspective is a brilliant idea only problem is most people can't do it without indulging in the lies they've created in their head they think their opponent believes lmao
Reverse debates only work when you have two people who actually care about intellectual honesty, are ready to accept the truth whatever it may be, and that actually understand the arguments/evidence of the opposing view. In other words, in the modern world they work in Universities between professional colleagues and just about nowhere else.

Reverse debates is a cool idea, but it's not really an intellectual thing, let alone debate thing, it's a psychological exercise improving one's theory of mind, nothing more.

This is the reason why i never read any comments or forum posts on HLTV. I just read the articles, check the upcoming games or past stats.
I love the irony that through this I was presented an opportunity to learn about Mongolian culture. Throat singing sounds pretty difficult and impressive. But racism, yeah, right.
There’s a Mongolian metal band called The Hu that use throat singing in their songs. They did a cover of Metallica’s Sad But True which is straight fire.

Used to be someone checking reddit and hltv quite frequently years ago, and while its never been a space where the worlds brightest minds gather together, the absolute collective brain damage on there nowadays just makes it insufferable. Does deliver banger content tho.

Its time for people to have a good read on "racism" and learn what the word means. It so often misused, it is secondhand embarrasing and more often than not by people who want to act like knights behind their monitors.
And props to the other Redditor, Termodynamicslad at 35:43, who simplified it for the hurt losers : German, British, French national stereotypes and jokes at politically correct but as soon as someone uses national stereotypes about any poc nation, its "racist and bigotry". Truly rare sight seeing Redditor with functional brain.

It's just a bit odd how a white European guy is grading levels of racism based on whether or not the subjects at hand were enslaved by Europeans in recent modern history or not. I love your investigative work in journalism, but this just feels like a lukewarm show of indifference to what the criticisms are actually trying to discuss. (i.e. How are the remarks about Machinegun supposed to create a feeling of welcoming to the Esports scene for players from underrepresented regions like Mongolia) Then the subsequent argument of "Ayrag has no racist history, what are you on about?" just feels so unrelated and off-topic to what is even being said by people criticising these attempts at "comedic" articles. The point is that as a "comedic writer" for a website, you should be able to be funnier than cheap jokes at the expense of minority groups in Esports, which are traditionally overwhelmingly underrepresented in the scene as a whole. All this does is give more fuel to the fire of chud gamer counter-culture against "wokeness" or some other fun buzzword they think is ruining their NA/EU only club. Anyone who takes issue with HLTV censoring the jokes is as "triggered" as they claim others offended by outwardly stereotyped jokes are.
