The Kingdom of Nabataea was located between the Sinai and Arabian Peninsulas and neighbored Judaea and Egypt. It became very wealthy due to its location at the convergence of several important trade routes that supplied frankincense and myrrh and some believe one of the Wise Men was Nabataean. Not only did they endure a harsh climate living in a desert, but they thrived in it. Their clean running water through out the area is a great example. King Aretas IV was regarded as one of the greatest Nabataean kings. Inscriptions record his name as “Aretas, King of the Nabataeans, lover of his people”. Amazing history behind this coin.
