    Feeling both pride and some embarrassment plowing through the video backlog, as I watched the trailer backing in (based on location in the wood yard ) I thought “customer must want maple” and I was RIGHT!

    You are a good businessman. You sell an excellent product and I think that's what sells your business over anything else. Good dry consistent firewood. Anyone who has brought wood for years has likely had an occasional problem with poor wood. But not from you.

    Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. You seem to be having lovely clear weather there. December here is generally grey and cold with a dampness that can chill you down to the marrow in your bones, even though we don't get the very low temperatures that you experience.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  Před 3 lety

      Well, it just turned, kinda late here, it's been single digets and we just got 5" of the white stuff!

    • @rodneysweetnam8653
      @rodneysweetnam8653 Před 3 lety

      Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders again. The last time we approached 5" of snow was in 2010, which was the biggest in recent times! I remember the very snowy winter of 1963, my recollection is that we spend all winter sledging and snowball fighting! My parents remembered the incredible high snow that hit the British Isles in 1947, when the countries were working to get on their feet again after the devastation of World War II. In the midlands of Ireland, burials weren't possible for 6 weeks.

    I agree with the limited delivery range. When I go out and get my free wood, I rarely go more than 30min from the house. My logic is that any problem with the truck, trailer, or God forbid, my health would be greatly exacerbated by being too far from home. On the dead ash, have you ever though of renting a skid steer or tractor for a day or so to help get the wood out to a laydown area?

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  Před 3 lety

      Yes I have, I won't know how much is there until I start on it and walk the whole area. See you here tomorrow Phil!

    Good morning Chris. Would it be advantageous for you to cut down some of the ash trees, then make a deal with your log length delivery operator, to pick up and deliver to your wood yard. Think of the wear and tear, gas and your time to get all that wood to your yard. Just thinking out Loud. Be safe!

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I checked into it and they are not interested in small jobs like that, it's not worth there time and they are swamped with jobs that are much bigger and pay more already. Good idea though!

    I do not know if it can be installed on your truck, but I have seen Ohio Wood burner seen using a system with a cloth liner in his truck on which he stacks his deliveries of wood, and while delivering he can roll that cloth to the tail, moving the wood, so he does not have to climb in the truck for delivering the wood.

    Hey can you explain the cons of over dried firewood or show a piece in a video when you come across a piece. Thanks.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  Před 3 lety

      Well now that is a good question. The only con of a dry piece of wood is that dry wood splits harder. The pros are great. 1 - it's dry 2- it's dry so you don't have to split it smaller 3 - it's dry so it is ready to burn - now! 4 - it's dry so, $$$$$$$$. Thanks for the question, I will bring that up in a video!

    Do you charge the same thing for a cord of maple as you would a cord of oak or cherry? I would think you'd never sell any of the lesser quality woods unless it was discounted greatly. Thanks!

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  Před 3 lety

      I sell mostly to fireplace people not heating people so they are not real picky, they mainly want dry ready to burn smaller sized pieces. The oak, hickory, maple, cherry, locust and ash are all the same price. The softwoods and everything else is less.
