Have A Nice Day! Diane Kruger was born in Germany so it is her mother language and I think with 16 she moved to Paris and that is why her French is also good :)
Jodie foster speaks nothing short but perfect Italian, I think her French accent when speaking it is awesome as well. As person who deserves an honorable mention is Kobe Bryant, his Italian is also excellent.
Morena grew up in Brazil and she is Br and it actually makes sense that she'd be fluent Im taking Portuguese evening classes. It is exausting but I love it. both my cousins are married to Bahianos, their kids spend their holidays here in France.I taught them French and in return they teach me a few words of portuguese. This summer I will teach them some French grammar so they can be on par with local children.
First of all thanks a lot for video. May I make some sugesstions if you make another one? Renee Zellweger, Rebecca de Mornay and Sandra Bullock all speak german fluently. Sandra with even some frankonian accent, very cute! If somebody tells you otherwise, di Caprio's german is rudimentary. Though he understands more than he speaks. He is just out of practice, I think. Obama's sister Dr.Auma Obama speaks german. It's admirable, because it is a difficult language and still not very popular
My dream is to be fluent in French like Jodie Foster.. I'm in school now and I'm learning it, but unfortunately second languages taught in school (not english, but Spanish etc) are often forgotten quickly by students, and I really hope that isn't me! I even turned my CZcams, Facebook and Google onto French
I'm amazed to hear that many american stars are fluent in french language !!This is a very hard language (first for us) and i imagine how it must be as difficult for a foreigner (the grammary is just hell to learn) !!
I'm Brazilian and Marina Braccarin, Daniela Ruah speaks Portuguese very well!!! But i think Marina Braccarin is Brazilian, because she's speaks Portuguese REALLY REALLY good!!
Have A Nice Day! No, Diane Kruger is German and she spoke German (Deutsch) in the video ... I don't know where you saw her spoke Dutch (Netherlands) in this video lol
Bilingual, dissecting the word, means two languages. It doesn't speak to when you started learning one or the other. And it doesn'tmean you necessarily speak them both at the same level. A person who speaks two languages, the less proficient one at least conversationally, can safely call themselves bilingual. But unless you are surrounded by both languages in your culture (either by linguistic demographics or by speaking a second language at home) you will not be at the same level in both.
Some see it as a waste because the year after it can be hard to adjust back to studies but yeah that year is focused on other things than school studies like language learning. Also, a common thing to do in Summers for Irish teenagers is to go down to the Gaeltacht areas, i.e Irish speaking areas, and immerse yourself down there. In 3 weeks you can come back fluent. In fact, I'm doing it this year.
I heard Mira Sorvino speaks Mandarin. I'd like to see a clip of that. All these examples of people speaking more than one European language is impressive, don't get me wrong, but if they spoke a completely dissimilar language like from Asia or Africa or a Native American language as a second language, I'd find that even more impressive.
That's one of the reasons I want to learn Portuguese so I can travel to Brazil. I can understand a bit from knowing Spanish alright but I'd definitely like to learn to speak Portuguese and Spanish more fluently.
I'm Italian and I speak french too and I have to say I'm quite impressed by Jodie Foster. It's very difficult for Americans or anglophone people in general speak languages like italian or french cause they far from english (both in grammar and vocabulary/accent). but she does it perfectly. good colin too but not like jodie
I was born in The Netherlands and I learned German, French and English and Latin in the Dutch school system. It does help that many movies on t.v had subtitles in my language so you can connect some of the words together.
Kobe Bryant is fluent in Italian--he played buckets in Italy at the start of his career. Both Leonardo Di Caprio and Sandra Bullock are fluent in German (grandparents from there). Good for one and all for knowing another language--makes you twice the person and should be an inspiration for us all.
You are right.I study French as my second foreign language and it's hard to be really fluent, but maybe if i studied French first, and then English,it would be different.I study French since I was in 5th grade and English since the 2nd grade. It really makes a difference.
It's Famke Janssen, not Jannsen. Btw she's Dutch and able to speak 4 languages: Dutch, English, French and German as most of the Dutch people.. She said that at Ellen DeGeneres.
Diane Kruger is actually multilingual not just bilubnagal, as she is fluent in at least three languages, as is Jodie Foster. Mrs. Foster played French charakters in French movies, and she was nominated for many French awards for her french performances.
I definitely agree with you. Keanu Reeves, : "His mother was English and his father was a Hawaiian-born American of Native Hawaiian, English, Irish, Portuguese, and Chinese descent". Angelina Jolie "On her father's side, Jolie is of German and Slovak descent, and on her mother's side, she is of primarily French Canadian, Dutch, and German ancestry." Stanley Kubrick was of Jewish, Polish, Austrian, and Romanian origins. Stallone is of jewish, ukrainian, french and italian origin.
To daANT1990: English is both Germanic and Indo-European, which is not the same thing as Latin. But obviously, Germanic languages and Latin languages and many others are a part of the Indo-European family.
yes as a French , Emma Thomson has a little accent. "le plus" , we say (not all of us) the sound "s" in the end, "inclus" there is no "i" (because she says "incluiii" ^^), and like most of non french speaker it's difficult for her to pronounce the sounds "en" "on" "an" "in " "un". But accents are beautiful, and thanks to all the english speakers trying to speak our language !
Foster's mum was a French teacher and Jodie is completely French educated.Technically there is no merit.Colin firth's wife is Italian so it helped shape his skills and sounds real good.My favourite fake french accent was Evangalline Lilly, I couldn't understand a word of what she said but she sounded so sexy
Yeah here in Ireland we have something called Transition Year, it's after you complete the Junior cycle of education, and it's a year to do different things and a lot of people go to the countries of their foreign languages and come back fluent.
As someone raised bilingual, people will hardly ever display equal proficiency in both languages. I was raised bilingual French-German, and depending on certain subjects, I will be stronger in one or another. That is why, as professional translators/interpreters, perform from the foreign language into the native language because language levels are almost never equal. But that does not mean that someone can then not be considered bilingual or polyglot (more than 3 languages).
Seeing Famke, Malin, Paul and others with foreign backgrounds speek in their native tongue isn't as impressive as Jodie Foster's French and Italian or Colin Firth's Italian or Diane's French. It's awesome to see people making the effort to learn languages other than their native tongue. I wish I had the time to learn another language (I've been saying for the last 5 yrs that I want to learn Italian but I haven't managed to make time for it yet).
Awesome ! It is fun to hear them speak another language out of english ! French is my first language, so it is very fun and cool to hear stars I usually know speaking english, speaking french XD Great vid ;)
I'm bilingual, completely fluent and literate in both languages. I know how to adapt depending on the setting so if you walk up to me speaking Spanish no I will not complain about stereotypes because speaking Spanish is a representation of my dual culture because I am Mexican-american not just Latina
Famke Jannsen, Jodie Foster and Diane Kruger are the only bilingual celebrities in this video. Bilingual means that you speak two languages BESIDES your own. Otherwise the vast majority of the world would be bilingual, and then this video wouldn't make sense.
Speaking of bilingual speaking actors, I think christoph waltz is really talented . I'm not shure but I think he can speak english, german, french and italien
i speak english and spanish fluently and i'm learning italian and i'm getting pretty good at it. speaking 3 languages is pretty fucking cool though. and i do agree that kids in school should grow up learning another language. it's easier for them to learn it at such a young age.
Not Most..Spanish,Italian,French etc. are..but you are forgetting the slavian languages, the Germanic ones...Finnish, Hungarian are a separete family as well and so on ..so NO not MOST European languages are from Latin
It's really funny how British people speak French so well. You can't help but think of high educated people (cause even if I still don't know why, French is considered as a prestigious language).
You should add Spanish to Freddie Highmore's amazing-foreign-language-speaking-skills. I just saw an interview conducted entirely in Spanish promoting Bates Motel for Universal Channel LA and he was awesome! His Spanish was almost perfect! Fluent and articulate. His British accent shows a little but he was great nonetheless.
I got so lucky to grow up with a Costa Rican babysitter. Knowing English and Spanish in New Jersey, USA? I mean, we're not highly Hispanic, but it's still something I love to put on my resumee (CV, for you non-Americans). I encourage anyone who still can (ie. everyone) to learn a second language. It's an important life experience, I think, and you never know when it'll come in handy. I'm working on German now!
She already was that good before living in France in fact she went to French speaking internationall High School in LA so she studied everything in French with the french education schedules (far more homework to do than the american system) ;)
these celebs fluent in multiple languages. You miss one more: Stana Katic (she's fluent in 5 diferent language and many dialects) haha :) but it was a very enjoyable video. Thank you.
To be honest, I can't really prove my comment as I don't know anything about the history of the language. My french teacher told me that the French didn't have the accent they have now and that French Canadian's "accent" is actually closer to how the language was spoken back then. Agreed. I am American and speak some French (I used to be fairly fluent but I am way out of practice). I have always been conscious that I sound, and most Americans sound, like an American speaking French, and not a native. Jodie sounds like a native.
I'm French : Jodie Foster speaks fluently French, it's impressive. Emma Thompson and other actresses speaks French very well, but not fluently. But it's great, it is very difficult to be really bilingual. You have to live in the country, it's the only way I think
I miss Sandra Bullock, René Zellweger and Rebecca de Mornay. They all speal german fluently. De Mornay with an austrian accent like Arnie Schwarzenegger. Sandra with a very cute frankonian (northeast in bavaria) accent.
i think that there are much more celebrities who can speak spanish, even more of them really well like Gwyneth Palthtrow or Viggo Montersen for exemple.
Can we think all of those are coincidences? and people still think that multiethnic society is bad... last thing. i'm always impressed by the number of famous people that are of jewish-ukrainian origin, all from odessa. by the way, the girl I love is from odessa, she told me (in different occasions) that she is of siberian, jewish, polish and gipsy origins, as well as ukrainian, obviously. do i have to specify that she is extremely beatiful, smart, creative and speaks five languages?

Im Croatian and Im fluent in English and German, I also speak average Italian, I know how to communicate in Spanish, Russian, Slovenian and other Slavic languages, so I dont really feel inferior
I agree I speak English and Spanish at least for the most part on conversational level, but I'd like to learn Portuguese, Italian, German, Creole, Russian and Hindi maybe.
OMG Jodie Foster almost sounds like she lives in France. Diane Kruger is also very fluent!
Have A Nice Day! Diane Kruger was born in Germany so it is her mother language and I think with 16 she moved to Paris and that is why her French is also good :)
Jodie Foster is so freaking smart
she sounds great in any language
Jodie Foster and Diane Kruger speak French like native French speakers.
I'm a native french speaker and Jodie's french is flawless! She even has a tiny parisian accent.
Freddie Highmore also speaks spanish very fluently and according to what he studied at university, he should also speak arabic
Jodie Foster's French is very, very good... Freddie Highmore and Bradley Cooper aren't too shabby either.
Omg Jodie Foster is so cute when she says "horrible" haha
she sounds like una argentina.
Jodie is the best
She's perfect. It's amazing.
let's not forget Diane Kruger
At least America is trying to speak the language. If she didn't speak it at all people would still complain about her not speaking it.
Freddie Highmore is so cute when he speaks french, he's cute anyway, but knowing another language is a bonus.
Jodie foster speaks nothing short but perfect Italian, I think her French accent when speaking it is awesome as well. As person who deserves an honorable mention is Kobe Bryant, his Italian is also excellent.
Diane Kruger's french is spot on. Amazing.
Where is Cristiano Ronaldo? Spanish, Portuguese, English !

Colin Firth truly speaks Italian....HIS HANDS KEEP MOVING!!!
Jodie Foster's FRENCH is PERFECT..Wow, even the accent...!!

I'm amazed to hear that many american stars are fluent in french language !!This is a very hard language (first for us) and i imagine how it must be as difficult for a foreigner (the grammary is just hell to learn) !!
If they did bilingual athletes, Kobe Bryan would surely make the list.
diane kruger and judie foster speak french very well
I enjoyed this video way more than I thought I would. It's also 7 am. I also havent slept. I'm going to stop typing now.
I'm Brazilian and Marina Braccarin, Daniela Ruah speaks Portuguese very well!!! But i think Marina Braccarin is Brazilian, because she's speaks Portuguese REALLY REALLY good!!
Honestly, if I could have any super power in the world it would be to instantly pick up any language with no accent.
Famke Janssen is Dutch so her speaking Dutch is ... normal
occi31 So is Diane Kruger but she spoke Dutch in the video.
Have A Nice Day! No, Diane Kruger is German and she spoke German (Deutsch) in the video ... I don't know where you saw her spoke Dutch (Netherlands) in this video lol

I read somewhere that he first learned because of his wife, who is Italian.
It's Famke Janssen, not Jannsen. Btw she's Dutch and able to speak 4 languages: Dutch, English, French and German as most of the Dutch people.. She said that at Ellen DeGeneres.
Jodie Foster simply Amazing !! No english accent when she's speak french :)
Diane Kruger is actually multilingual not just bilubnagal, as she is fluent in at least three languages, as is Jodie Foster. Mrs. Foster played French charakters in French movies, and she was nominated for many French awards for her french performances.
wow, how weird to see that America Ferrera doesnt speak spanish fluently. Don't know why but always thought that spanish was her mother tongue.
even Alexis Bledel speaks better spanish than her
Can you hear me Major Tom? Why the 'even' alex bledl is half argentine half mexican why wouldnt she speak spanish?
I definitely agree with you. Keanu Reeves, : "His mother was English and his father was a Hawaiian-born American of Native Hawaiian, English, Irish, Portuguese, and Chinese descent". The name of the Brazilian actress is actually MORENA BACCARIN!! And that's why she speaks Portuguese so well, she was born in Brazil!! :)
dutch sounds the best
I'm bilingual, completely fluent and literate in both languages. I know how to adapt depending on the setting so if you walk up to me speaking Spanish no I will not complain about stereotypes because speaking Spanish is a representation of my dual culture because I am Mexican-american not just Latina

Jodie foster her french is so good. Damn, Best french ive heard an american speak.
''Parlo con un accento francese oribile''
ahahaha come si fa a non amarla?
Well yeah. I said I'm Australian, and I live in Australia, it's not as common to be bilingual here as in the States or the UK.
sweet Jesus Evangeline comes in french to kill me now
Speaking of bilingual speaking actors, I think christoph waltz is really talented . I'm not shure but I think he can speak english, german, french and italien
freddie highmore is cute speaking french
She is bilingual... because she speaks English too. Bilingual is when you can speak two languages, and she ticks that box!
Do you want to sound sexy? Bilinguism, baby.
That's where it's at.
Jodie's accent is flawless and so is Diane's. I would know. French is my native tongue.
i speak english and spanish fluently and i'm learning italian and i'm getting pretty good at it. speaking 3 languages is pretty fucking cool though. and i do agree that kids in school should grow up learning another language. it's easier for them to learn it at such a young age.

It's really funny how British people speak French so well. You can't help but think of high educated people (cause even if I still don't know why, French is considered as a prestigious language).
Morena Baccarin is Brazilian and was rooted in America!
if you mean Diane Kruger.. she is German and she moved to Fraance at age 16 I think by herself... so she definitely had to speak those two languages..
I didn' t know for some of them, but Jodie foster her french is not horrible as she states in italian, it is very good!!
including Diane Kruger for German, Famke is a bit unfair, as it is their mother tongue (i think). And where is Viggo Mortessen?
So? They're still bilingual.
Why? Per definition they are still bilingual. Actually, both are at least trilingual. ;-)
Dutch, English, French, German, Chinese and some Russian, Spanish and Italian. That's all folks!
Actually, "bilingual" means that you can speak two different languages fluently
He doesn't speak italian, in Inglorious Basterds he just crammed those few lines.
diane kruger and jodie foster have the best french accent !
I think we forget that celebrities aren't just generic english speaking Americans, but have diverse ethnic backgrounds
Diane Kruger's dress at 5:03 looks like Jake from Adventure Time
Jodie Foster is the most impressive. She speaks French with a French accent!
you can say "I have fungus" in french and it would still sound amazing
Because his wife is italian and he always visits her relatives so he wanted to be able to communicate wih them.
Jodie Foster is by far the best one... You cannot say she isn't French if you don't know it before
To be honest, I can't really prove my comment as I don't know anything about the history of the language. My french teacher told me that the French didn't have the accent they have now and that French Canadian's "accent" is actually closer to how the language was spoken back then. But it's true that French from anywhere comes from the same French. Thanks for your comment. And yes, I am Québecois. And I didn't realize my simple comment could cause so many negative votes!
Freddie Highmore's french is great! I didn't even know he spoke french! And Jodie Foster's french is too but I already knew that.
Colin Firth speaking italian?? **dies**
Milla Jovovich speaks Russian, so does Mila Kunis. Renee Zelwegger and Sandra Bullock both supposedly speak German fluently
Jodie Foster impressed me the most. Talented lady
Of course, dialects vary a lot. The south of Sweden is sometimes difficult for me to understand when spoken (I´m from Stockholm), but we spell excactly the same. That doesn´t change at all. Just clarifying, Morena Baccarin speaks brazillian portuguese so well because she IS brazilian.
At 4:47 Ferguson says "quis cais"? I'm I right with that? To the portuguese speakers out there, what does he mean by that? "quis" is is I think a conjugation of "quer" and "cais" means "harbor?". Would be really greatful, I learning portuguese!
The person was talking about the original comment in which 'Swedish' is spelled 'sweendish'.
Diane Kruger is German and thus speaks German, and she speaks French accent-free
