  • Someone actually thought that disappearing water against the foundation would keep the basement dry. It did the opposite and caused a river to run through the basement!

      They give water a place to settle until it can drain. Which is why you use underground drain pipes to divert away, also water flows through that gutter doesn't help

    Idk, I think calling the previous job a ‘drainage system’ is a little too generous. Closer to a retention system honestly.

      French Drain is primarily for subsurface water bro, and the main problem here is surface water holding to the side of the house because of improper landscaping. Sure French Drain would probably work, but it would be pretty scummy to tell a homeowner to shell out for a FD system when all they need some packed clay.

      @@phillycheesetake ya it's a good thing water won't run between the clay and the house. Maybe they should have fixed the actual problem instead of lying to the client that they fixed the problem. It's a bad bandaid

    • @phillycheesetake
      @phillycheesetake Před 4 měsíci +4

      @@bobjones3069 Yeah, you're right, water won't run between the clay and the house, because the clay is sloping AWAY from the foundation. So the water will hit the clay, and run AWAY from the foundation. The miniscule amount of water which sprays the wall in a blowing gale, and runs down the seam at the flow rate the seam can support, is very unlikely to cause problems.
      But if there are problems, I'm sure the client will let them know about it.

    Would this amount a slope be enough to direct water away from the house and with the driveway there wouldn't it just keep the water in that area anyway? I'd have the area either made into a sidewalk with a slight slope to the driveway and/or run all downspouts to the driveway and maybe add another between the windows just to help drain the gutter. AM I wrong? Please advise.
