Hello squash community! In this video, I'm thrilled to analyze Karthik's backhand technique. By focusing on Karthik's game, we'll uncover some common challenges that many players face and provide actionable advice to enhance your backhand skills. Let's dive in and make those improvements!
🤲 Broken Wrist Position: A common issue, Karthik, is your broken wrist position. We need to correct this by cocking the wrist oppositely, aiming for a more optimal angle.
🏋️‍♂️ Racket and Body Movement: Your racket's movement is predominantly upward, which limits power. I recommend moving your racket across your body towards your left hip, then lifting into a 'diamond' position for better shot execution.
🚶‍♂️ Body Weight Transfer: You're relying too much on arm swings. Integrating body weight transfer, such as dipping the shoulder and coiling the hips, will improve your power and control.
🔍 Spacing from the Ball: You tend to get too close to the ball, indicated by the bend in your arm. Practicing reaching out for the ball with a locked arm at contact will help maintain the correct distance.
🔄 Opposite Arm Involvement: Your opposite arm seems inactive. Using the 'two watches' concept, where both wrists are close together at a certain point in the swing, will create a more balanced and effective motion.
Karthik, these tips are not just for you but for everyone striving to improve their backhand. Practice these adjustments, starting with ghosting exercises, and gradually introduce the ball once you're comfortable.
