Hey squash enthusiasts, it's time to dive into another exciting swing analysis! Today, I'm breaking down James' forehand technique. This video will provide valuable insights not just for James, but for anyone looking to polish their forehand game. Let's explore the nuances that make a great squash swing and identify areas for improvement.
🔄 Racket Positioning: James, your initial racket position is quite 'hooded' or overly extreme. Aiming for a more moderate, 45-degree angle will ensure smoother swings and better control.
👂 Elbow Height: Your elbow tends to elevate too high, causing unnecessary complications in your swing. Let's bring it down to around shoulder height for more efficiency.
✊ Grip Analysis: Your grip is commendable but slightly closed. Adjusting for a more open grip, while maintaining it in your fingers rather than your palm, will enhance your shot precision.
đŸ§â€â™‚ïž Shoulder and Hip Engagement: I'm impressed with your shoulder tilt and leg engagement! However, further incorporating your hip and right rib cage for a 'C-shape' body posture will add power to your shots.
đŸŒïžâ€â™‚ïž Swing Consistency: Your arm straightens too early in the swing. Aim for a consistent, controlled movement, especially when executing different shots like drives and drops.
🎯 Tailoring the Swing to the Shot: Differentiate your swing based on the shot. For drops, consider a shorter, steeper swing compared to the longer swing used for drives.
James, you've got some fantastic elements in your game already. By focusing on these areas, you can elevate your forehand to the next level. Thanks for sharing your video!

Regarding the grip of sitting too deep in the palm
I have the same problem
and I think what most of us think is that we loose power and stability in the racquet and the index finger is simply too weak to control the racquet face upon impact
.you reviewed me as well. Could you elaborate how to ensure the index finger and the rest of the fingers don’t make the racquet wobble upon impact? Thank you in advance.

I was looking for it also about 6 months ago and I think I found it only to discover it had been discontinued (so I don't recall its name). There's also an open source app that can do the same called Kinovea, but it doesn't support audio playback (hearing sounds may actually help!). So what I end up doing when analyzing squash recordings is just using VLC player either setting a low speed playback mode or clicking through the video frame-by-frame. Hope that helps!
