Some of the translations on that video weren’t completely accurate but they get the point across.
From a Korean perspective, the lyrics are VERY intense. And I do mean VERY.
The way he described his mental state is honestly shocking and heartbreaking at the same time.
The first part is literally structured to be like a suicide note.
When the question is bleeped, the translation left out the “have you ever-“
This is a reference to the first question you are often asked when entering a psychiatric clinic “have you ever tried to or thought of self-harming or committing suicide?”
The subject is really a taboo in Korea, especially with celebrities, so he bleeped it out.
I’m sure he’s doing a lot better, but he’s also mentioned that it’s something that will likely stay with him for life, however he knows that he’s not alone.
Thanks for the reaction guys, I always look forward to watching them 💜💜💜

I don't think he bleeped it out b/c the subject was taboo. When he discussed the project, he said he used the name Agust D and not Suga because of the content. The bleeps were not cendorship bleeps. That sound is an EKG (heart monitor) flatlining, signaling a heart that stopped beating.

    • @kilebibirch1709
      @kilebibirch1709 Před 4 lety +72

kickrockspleze for me it was a censor, this is because the only part that was bleeped was the part of the question that contained the suicide and/self harm.
      It went: “---적 있냐고”
It wouldn’t really make sense as a flat line since it would mean something like “have you ever died before”
In this context it might make some sense, but I just think it makes more sense as a censor, since the topic would have been blown way out of proportion had he outright put words like “suicide” or “self-harm” in the song.
However I can see how it could also be seen as an EKG and gives another perspective.

    • @kickrockspleze
      @kickrockspleze Před 4 lety +25

@@kilebibirch1709 EKG flatline doesn't always mean death. it means for a period of time, there was no heartbeat detected or the heartbeats are extremely slow so the beeps are longer. For someone that has attempted suicide there maybe a time where no heartbeat was detected or it may be real slow. That beep is definitely an EKG monitor. There is a difference in the beep used for censors and the beep of a flatline.

Every member helps me with my issues on the daily, more than a psychiatrist ever could. I got some of Yoongi’s lyrics tattooed on me in 2015 and every time I look at it, I warm up inside. People think I overreact when I say that they saved me and I will be thankful forever, but I mean it. From debut to 2020, following along their journey as I grew up turned me into the 22 year-old I am today. Stronger, wiser and more at peace with “life” than I could ever be. 🙏🏼💜

I really love the "Dream" portion of So Far Away and was tempted to get that done. My biggest issue was that I don't speak, read or understand more than a handful of Hangul which means I'd be relying on someone else who likely doesn't understand the language either to tattoo me. If it's in English I can tell right away if something is wrong but I don't have that luxury if it's done in Korean. Instead I ALMOST went for some of Jin's lyrics from Awake but I bought a concert ticket at the Rose Bowl which probably will end up being canceled which breaks my heart.

That’s not easy to do. I have friends and family that still don’t know I’ve been to therapy. I can’t even imagine telling the world!

Honestly I think Yoongi brings a whole other aspect of rap to the table.
He is able to put so much emotion into his voice so that no matter who you are, Korean speaking or not, you can clearly feel what he’s projecting through his music. Of course we know of that “tongue-technology” but his ability to story-tell, write, and portray a beautifully powerful narrative is just amazing.
It is so evident here, he is nearly screaming and crying his heart out, yet he is able to deliver so well.

And especially in highschool you have no choice, but to go there everyday until graduation. And most of us are not strong enough to fight back then, like in the movies, but I can assure you from my own experience you can live a brighter life after puperty is over and you have left the toxic environment of highschool. If you feel like nobody loves you, you lost hope just hang in there, dont give up and concentrate on what is your passion. You will find the people who will love you later when you have found out who you are and how to love yourself. Just dont give up. Remember, how RM and J hope were treated by the netizens and how they showed the world after all, how Suga against all odds and mental issues never gave up. I've been an ARMY for years now and already listen to all of their songs and covers even their own mixtape or solo.. But somehow I never have the urge to hear the full mixtape of Agust D, like it's telling me to save the songs for later when I most need it. And just end of the last year, my life became more complicated, too many negativity around me and I questioned myself a lot. At that one night where I was alone in my room, lights off, my heart just in slight consciousness wanted to open up Agust D full mixtape.. When I was listening to the songs and the lyrics, it's the story of Yoongi but it felt like a conversation from human to human saying that I'm not alone, you can share your sorrow with me. Then, when this song 'The Last' started playing...
For the first time, I cried the hardest I ever had in my life without bottling up.. Just pouring everything out.. This song is a miracle that came to me at a lonely night, accompanying me and I felt it gave me a virtual soft pat on my back and said 'Let it all out, dear...'
The Last is more than just a song to me. The irony of the title, it gives me a new 'beginning' after that sorrow but beautiful night to live my life. It is a huge gift to me and I will never forget that moment, ever.
Although I have already confessed lots that I will never leave this ARMY and BTS family, but I can't help to love and respect them deeper again. No words can ever describe my gratefulness toward these talented artists, but THANK YOU. I only wish BTS and ARMY FAM happiness more and more...

In this song is a line that says ,,sleep on the bathroom floor’’- this is a popular saying in korea when someone is talking about a s*ic*de attempt. Its heartbreaking to hear that he probably tried to take his own life. When this one fragment was censored the doctor was asking if he thought about k*l*ing himself or attempted to do this. He is so brave for releasing a song that talks about such taboo topic especially in korea when people are not aware of how serious this issue is even tho they have some of the highest rates of s*ic*de attempts and s*ic*de in general. Students there are willing to take their own life because of korea’s awful school system and people bullying them which is so normalized there. It’s so crazy man

Everytime I listen to this song, I cry.
The first time I heard it was in early 2017, when I finally joined the fandom (I was a casual listener since 2015), and it wrecked me. I had been battling depression and anxiety since 2008, and when I heard The Last, 9 years later... I had never related this much to anything.
BTS, specially Yoongi and Jimin, saved my life. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be alive today, I would have already taken my own life. This is why BTS mean so much to me.

Also to clear some stuff out, as someone who has seen psychologist and psychiatrists, normally, both ask you if you've ever been suicidal, attempted self-harm or suicide before, so it is safe to assume that's what the doctor asks Yoongi. Also, "sleeping on the bathroom floor" can be an euphemism for suicide, but I prefer not to assume that. And yes, during his trainee days, Yoongi was a delivery man and got hit by a car and almost got ran over, he fainted and when he opened his eyes the tyre was in front of his face, he wrecked his shoulder but didn't tell anyone bcs he was afraid of getting kicked out of training, later on, when BTS debuted, he told Bang PD, and he told him they would have waited for him and helped him pay for college in the mean time.

That song is just...sooo Yoongi the lyrics, he really exposed how he felt and it's hard to think he's going through so much hiding it and being so strong but then that end I can really feel how he's finally getting what all that strength deserves and I know you can see that too.

Thank you for a real reaction to this song. I've always felt that Suga's mixtape was a way for him to let go of everything he was holding onto. Even the members didnt know some of the things Suga spoke about in the songs, like his car accident. The part about hiding in the bathroom really happened during a concert in Japan. It is still one of the most emotional memories for a lot of ARMY's. Tae was ill and at the time we assumed Suga was also ill. the 5 remaining members came on stage attempted to perform a few songs, than came off stage and the entire concert was cancelled. There are videos of it out there, but they are sad and filled with ARMY's crying. Suga took some time off and even came back to the place the concert was held to try and forgive himself. He also wrote a very long letter to ARMYs about it. I feel like so many people forget that Suga is there because he is so silent, but when he speaks it is so powerful and his lyrics truly are moving. First Love off of Wings, that song is amazing also.

As I've said before, Suga is my bias and one of the reasons is his total openness and honesty about who he was, is and wants to be. In the k-pop world suicide is very common because these idols are held up to such high standards, most of which may go against their true nature. The part where he says the doctor asks him a questions and it sounds as if it's censored, is suggestive that he asked about Suga having thoughts of suicide to which he answers yes. That is so raw and brave. BTS is fortunate in that they have a bit more freedom to be themselves thanks to BigHit management and I am truly grateful that they share themselves with the world so openly so that we can see we're not alone in pain and depression or good times and happiness. We are all human and experience human emotions and circumstances.
Suga still suffers from social anxiety and it manifests as him seeming to zone out or sprouting random, unrelated pieces of conversation at times but he has said that his "brothers" keep him grounded.
I love and appreciate this band of brothers.

Yoongi struggled intensely with trying to prove the worth of his passion (to write music, to rap, to produce) to his parents. Korean parents are very driven to have their children go to university and then settle into a lifelong "safe and secure" corporate job. The kids who exhibit desires to rap, sing, dance or do anything off the beaten, accepted, normal societal path get the wrath of their parents and society at large. Yoongi's dream could not be stopped nor stuffed, no matter who told him to stop it. He knew he was causing his parents pain and he hated himself for the conflict it was causing. There is an amazing video of him dropping to all fours in a concert when his parents were there. He faced them, bowed, knelt and started weeping. Jimin rushed over to put his arms around him and comfort him. It may have happened before this...Yoongi's parents realizing how much his passion meant to him...but this is likely the first time we, as fans, saw the result of his pain and, finally, happiness when he knew his parents, family, teachers, society finally GOT how important his passion was. His commitment, his bravery, his drive, his dream, his desire to express himself in words and music are all a big part of BTS' success. I love and admire him so much. You guys keep doing you!

Hey guys! The very last line in this lyric vid is wrong, he doesn't repeat the "show me the money" lyric, but I can understand why y'all chose this vid since i think its the one that pops up first. (also side note: Show Me The Money is a Korean reality show in which rappers would go on there to do competitions and freestyle. Ppl tried to say Yoongi never went on there cuz he couldn't do it, but in this song he adresses the fact that it's not because he can't do it, it's that he doesn't want to).
Also the part with the doctor being bleeped out is basically him asking Yoongi if he ever thought of harming himself before :( and then yoongi answers yes :((

When I first learned about BTS with the intent to get to know them and become fans of them, Yoongi's story stood out to me the most because depression and anxiety have been part of my life since I was very young. This song is a big reason why I get so happy when I see him smiling with the other members. He's much better now but as someone who also copes with it, I know that it doesn't always go away completely. He was very open and honest in this song. What even stands out to me more is the fact that this topic isn't really discussed at length over in Korea. He was very brave to bring this up and with everything that's been happening through the years with idols suffering from depression, I hope that people can listen to this song and start a conversation. Anyway, Yoongi is very precious to me. I'm OT7 but he is my ult.

Yoongi is so honest and close to his fans. He takes care of his fans and loves his fans. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and ptsd, i know that sometimes, even when you think/feel you're okay, that you can lapse into periods of nothingness. Nothing gets done, nothing is thoughts over.... Just nothingness. And i think as his support base we do a good job of helping him get out of those ruts. I truly admire him, me being a person that deals with depression, anxiety and panic attacks having someone that you admire being this honest and brave telling his story, how he dealt with it and I'm sure he keeps on dealing with stuff, going forward every day working to be a better version of himself, it helps immensely, and I guess that's why I resonate with him the most. And not only this song but Yoongi's lyrics are full of encouragement, hope, understanding and life experiences, to me his music feels like a shelter and friend who understands, if a have to put it in a few words it would be "when you listen to his music, his music is listening to you back" and I feel this with the entirety of BTS' work.

When I found BTS I'd been depressed for years, and felt like my sorrow, anger and some unexplainable darkness was consuming me into someone new. So many lines in this song spoke to me, especially that greed filled monster that both is and isn't him. That bleeped out part? Oh I knew instantly what that was: "Have you ever thought of dying?" I cried so much first listening to this song, as if that darkness felt heard, and I think this was one of the first times I knew I could never give BTS up. It was an absolute shock to my system, cause no idol would talk about something like this in such a raw, unfiltered way. During some really dark moments, I would listen to the second half and remind myself that if Yoongi's still dealing with depression and social phobia but getting help and pushing through, so could I. Yoongi is the bravest. To reach his dreams he had to face his deepest fears...alone. He had to fight his own demons in front of thousands and he laid it all out for everyone to see in this song. To share your most intimate secrets, opening yourself to criticism, is so brave. And what he found through it all was empowerment. He said in the beginning it was hard sharing one room with 6 other people but now he cant imagine being without them. They have all been through trying times but they have literally healed each other just by being the strong unit they are. ( Jimin struggled with anorexia and weight issues at one point as well. )
The intimacy and trust he has with ARMY fandom is unprecedented. All of BTS are so candid. It's why our bond is so strong.

I know that I'll probably fall down again and that's it's going to be hard to get back up, but this song for me is the reminder that I CAN get back up as long as I don't give up.
This song is the biggest reason I love BTS and specifically Yoongi, cause they gave me one more weapon to protect myself with and nobody can ever take that away from me!
Thank you guys for reacting to this and for bringing it to more people that could need it, you're the champs!

This is such an intense and raw song from Yoongi and I feel for him every time I hear it. I love that BTS and ARMY are there for each other and Yoongi feels better because of that support system though depression is something that stays with you for life. You just learn to manage/ cope with it...
But on a lighter note, when the lyrics said “the heads of many ppl that nod just at the movement of my hand” and you three were....nodding along with the beat 🤣 It’s just funny somehow.

The rawness in this song is overwhelming!! You can just feel it. This is the song that really drew me to Yoongi. I just naturally gravitated towards him after feeling a sense of likeness to the first part of this song.
