This would be a minor victory for the USA, but both sides would take heavy losses. There is more for the USA to gain than the EU has to gain in this hypothetical matchup. After this conflict, the USA would control any former-EU controlled islands in the Atlantic, and a stalemate would be reached in Ireland.

I'd have gone for Europe's "loose ends" first, such as the islands, and any land masses that would be easy to cut off. As well as setup a Naval Blockade to cut off a large chunk of Europe's trade and oil, and allow them to be weakened before moving in.
