      he was definitely unhealthily obsessed with her, or rather the idea of her; getting that happy domestic life back with the “only person who had ever understood him”. but it is in this crazy fan’s opinion that we cannot assume it was romantic attraction. although ruben thinks of laura as some kind of angel, he’s also terrified of her. she haunts him, and dreads the day that she’ll come back for revenge. i think his obsession, especially with STEM, has a lot to do with guilt and obligation. and although it’s easy for someone like Jimenez to see that as almost romantic in nature, ruben’s character is MUCH more complex than that. that’s why i love this game so much :D

      @@dafilmqueen556 this comment is kinda old so i don’t remember the exact sources- but throughout the game we see that Ruben loved Laura only after the title of “sister”. and we learn that he feels extreme fear that she blames him and will come for him in Laura Creature’s bio from the book “the art of evil within”. i think you can find this page on her wiki.
      (also just given Rubens over all character i would be very surprised if a psychopath could feel any romantic attraction at all! that kind of behavior can be masked by such intentions, but it’s often only to regain the feeling of validation.) his childhood with his sister was the only time in his life that he felt true happiness, so he thinks reliving that fantasy is the only way he can feel happy again.

    I don't believe Ruvik could teleport in the real world like that. He's not alive.
    Which only means that the sequence at the beginning with Sebastian and crew entering the hospital was a mental reimagining of the events inside of STEM.
    I believe they were hooked into STEM wirelessly before entering the hospital in the car. Their bodies were later dragged to the wired terminal inside beacon. Its the only explanation.
    The only way Ruvik would manifest himself into the real world would be through Leslie, which happens at the very end.

    TEW2 was kind of doomed before it released because whatever reason they decided to use the ID4 engine instead of the already released ID5 from a company stand point I think they did this as a means to not butcher other games that released around its time from the same company I guess they figured TEW2 would totally annihilate its sister games so they diluted it a bit there is a video on CZcams about this look it up. Its been a minute since I watched it and I can't remember who did a review on it.
    One thing I do love about TEW2 was the steps they took to make it a different but still give you that same feeling as far as horror like all the employees being viciously slaughtered in the hallway the dark rooms ect.

      @@AbsolAhm Objectively the first game was so much better. Without DLCs we could understand Ruvik’s story and he was written better than any of the antagonists of TEW2. Hell, the villains in Evil Within 2 was all shallow and forgettable and I’m still upset about that. None of them had actual backstory. Sebastian’s story was also forgettable and incredibly boring in 2; he didn’t have any character outside sad-dad trope and his daughter was just a plot device. The story didn’t go any deeper than save the princess storyline. In the second game they completely abandoned Ruvik, Leslie and Joseph for the sake of the poorly written family drama and converted Mobius into the weakest evil organization in the world for the sake of the forced happy ending. Everything was dumb in 2 and the second game’s characters were all like, written with no love.
      Also the second game was also boring in terms of gameplay. It relied on stealth too much, the level design felt just poorly crafted, the empty open world section was so boring and completely unnecessary and overall enemy AIs were so dumb. It was like the amalgam of other generic action games.

    My theory on the end of the game (and I apologize if I misspell names).
    I believe that Ruvrik traded places with Leslie when he evaporated him, Ruvrik was outta stem and now Leslie was in control of it all but due to being completely unstable mentally Sebastian’s sub Consciousness dominated Leslie’s thus why the boss fight at the end of the game was so Chaotic and bizarre with Sebastian surviving being Impaled, why the bazooka was so Convenient for him, why he was in a military truck shooting a machine gun like a action hero outta movie. I think Sebastian was so caught up in a moment that his Subconsciousness created this Ridiculous boss fight and the thing he killed at the very end was actually Leslie considering he had traded places with Ruvrik.

    I felt like the game was a bit disjointed in the first 2 chapters, but as soon as all of the story elements started falling into place more clearly I fell in love with the game. It feels like the curve to get adjusted to the games combat and story is a bit steep, bit once you're over it it's so much fun. Every little note, new piece of dialogue etc was so intriguing.
    After chapter 9(ish?) When Marcello reveals the group is in a shared consciousness, with everyone's shared memories warped and combined under Ruviks control, I just fell in love with the game completely. What a cool twist for an "alternative reality" plot line!
    It did feel a bit jarring towards the latter end of the game when it switches from the rural environments to the more urban areas (the hospital, city etc) but still fun. I also enjoyed the mixed storyline of Sebastians missing wife and daughter alongside the overarching plot. The monsters were amazingly designed. My absolutely favourite has to be the sister/spider monster. The fact that you fight her prior to learning about her and then afterwards it feels like a eureka moment! The long hair, the fire weakness, it was so cool.
    Even when I struggled with the game it never frustrated me to the point where I didn't enjoy the experience anymore, personally I felt the "challenge" of the areas and enemies to be moderately mixed and nothing felt far too difficult or far too easy.
    My only gripe is that after the 10th or 11th chapter the plot just gets slightly too messy. When they introduce the Kidman shooting Leslie thing it just added another side plot when things were already kind of full. I feel like they were trying for a "gotcha!" Moment but it didn't do that, it just felt a bit confusing because you then had to consider if a 3rd party was involved in this whole thing.
    And one final note, absolutely loved the nurse in the safe haven. I genuinely loved the mirror teleportation and the idea of a safe room with a unrelated character who helps you buff your skills or unlock items. Really cool mechanic for a game of this nature, I'm not sure if a traditional shop keeper would've fit the tone !

    The Aspects that ruined my Evil Within 2 experience was the constant shifting in the story.
    Like, we're contrasting between a crazy artist, a religious fanatic and Sebastian's milky wife.
    One moment you're in a town chasing Stefano than you're suddenly trying to kill a priest which derails the plot because we go from fighting Stefano to fighting Lava guys.
    Another thing that pissed me off was the passiveness of the MOBIUS team - ''Alpha Team''. Helping the MOBIUS team members felt like filler content rather than contributing to the progress of the story. You have to take a quest from Julius in exchange for resources when logically you should get that shit for free. You wanna leave too don't you?
    At least we meet a cool chick named Torres who does take action but unfortunately dies because we *shoot her by accident....* this game sucks. the only interesting parts was the confrontation with obscura (camera creature) and Anima (ghost lady)

    Now Seb doesn’t remember Ruvik and Joseph means nothing to him. His character totally depends on his daughter now because the devs now think video game male protagonist should be a sad dad(and nothing else). It’s sad to see Seb’s character and potential getting destroyed in such a way, but I had a really good time playing The Evil Within 1 and waiting for the sequel. I’m still grateful for that.

    One crucial detail he forgot to mention which ties the story better is that the cult that julis village was involved in was the victorianos’ since they owned the church, and they would essentially kidnap people from the village and animals. The villagers then became fed up and burned the farm in retaliation. Also one of the people kidnapped from the village were the twins which end up being bosses in the church area, they were infants kidnapped and experimented on hence having them in stem as their deformed and crazy looking counterparts with one being named zehn. All of the enemies in game also represent the people in there which change things in the world of stem but ruvik is the one with the authority, for instance the base haunted you see throughout the whole game are just normal people ruvik experimented on but became monsters due to how long of an exposure they had to being inside. The enemy towards the end of the game on the cross is an embodiment of his families religion and pretty much is ruviks vision of rebirth. The sadist, is a serial killer whom was put in there. The invisible boss is symbolism for ruviks desire to stay in the shadows hidden and picking his prey. So I don’t know if this is a plot hole but pretty much juli and ruvik the whole time were close to each other in terms of where they lived, and it’s strange this doesn’t get brought up. Also another plot hole is that the art book never mentioned Sebastian had a dead daughter, only a missing wife, so they definitely added that late into development. Also one more fact, the enemies with the two faces or heads that appear near the box heads area are the real life versions of people and their stem versions colliding. The box head is Ruben’s desire to keep his secret safe, and the spider boss towards the end is a person in stem that didn’t get properly put in and in the process of becoming a haunted became something more, due to maybe more exposure than the others? Also he forgot to mention that ruvik controls everything literally everything, to the point that the mobius agent that haunted Juli wasn’t actually even there and ruvik just used that to keep her in fear, pretty much if you have been in stem before you have the mobius mark in your hand (the one Kidman has) meaning if you have that you’ve been in stem before and ruvik can place you in his world, so another little plot hole would be if Myra at the end has a mark meaning ruvik could have created her in stem why didn’t he? He could have used her to play against Sebastian’s fears and torment him with her.

    • @mattmedrala1947
      @mattmedrala1947 Před 2 lety +2

      Something worth considering is that The Evil Within was originally intended to be set in Spain in the 20th century, which to me reads as a prequel to RE4. The huge amount of Spanish names, the really odd feudal relationship between the villagers and the aristocrats, the distinctly medieval architecture, the technology and mental health standards largely being early 20th century at best...it's more interesting to me to see this as an exploration into the backstory of Los Illuminados, the Salazar clan, and how STEM was a prototype attempt at a hive mind prior to the rediscovery of Las Plagas.

  • @matthewmcshane399
    @matthewmcshane399 Před 2 lety +8

    The cult may be connected to theodore Wallace from the sequel since that symbol and the fire come up when he takes over stem.

    • @mattmedrala1947
      @mattmedrala1947 Před 2 lety +1

      I'm pretty sure the cult is 'the evil within' Mobius and that Wallace's backstory would have clarified that a lot more had they not clearly rushed and cut much of the game once they introduced Wallace. The Mu cult is basically Los Illuminados, an ancient and gigantic conspiracy which used Mobius as a front and likely has other contingencies if Mobius failed. It's likely that Ruvik might have become so cynical about humanity partly because he witnessed the atrocities the cult was able to convince the villagers and his father to commit - as far as he was concerned, he was just repaying evil upon evil.
      I suspect that Ruvik had a direct hand in the takedown of Mobius in TEW2, which makes the intentional avoidance of him feel all the more suspicious. Like maybe he had been secretly working a deal with Kidman and Joseph to take down Mobius (so he can steal their STEM assets), and Kidman deliberately avoided mentioning him because Sebastian already didn't trust her.
      Evil Within 3 might be about tracking down Ruvik as he plunges the world into his own wireless STEM network as a twisted way to 'save' them from the cult. I can see him in a healthier Leslie's body playing up the 'dark messiah' aesthetic.
