  • Today we're stepping into the future with the world’s first AI-powered true AR glasses, the RayNeo X2.
    ► Check out the RayNeo X2 here: www.rayneo.com...
    These aren't your ordinary smart glasses; they're among the first to use waveguide technology, which lets you see a display through remarkably thin glass. It's cutting-edge and not widely used yet, but it's a glimpse of where things are going.
    A big thanks to TCL for sponsoring this first look and supporting this channel! Per our guidelines, no review direction was received. Our opinions are our own.

      I'm generally skeptical of these AR glasses. Depends on how well it's implemented, and latency. "Hands free", with a decent display (HUD) is a good next step. Doesn't have to be MR. The most useful apps I see are ...
      1. Real time translation
      2. Map navigation
      3. AI Chat (surprisingly enough). I've discovered that AI voice response is too low bandwidth. An efficient output is actually in text, in bullet point format. But this does not lead to very natural voice output.

    • @ConraDargo
      @ConraDargo Před 5 měsíci +3

      Definitely for navigation and translation! 👍🏻 And possibly for helping me get info about items that I’m looking at, if a pair of glasses could do that as well ^^ But I’m definitely happy enough with the first two features!

      Been looking for actual glasses with the Snapdragon XR2 chip specifically made for AR for a while, nice to see its here in implementation now.
      Would love to buy a pair and use the live translation in India to see how well it works but for now the Chinese demo was too slow for actual communication.
      Usecase would be statuses and live trans/maps, translations of signs in non-ENG places and for fitness status or HR, watts, playlist when training.
      Maybe scanning faces and displaying their name, so you know who ppl are in a large work environment and capturing video of meetings as seen by me for dokumentation.

  • @inceptional
    @inceptional Před 5 měsíci +11

    OK, this is very interesting because of the fact there's nothing at all in the way of the full lense area like more of these AR glasses, which was one of the things that bugged me most about the other examples. There's a whole lot of potential with this kind of display me thinks. I'm already envisioning the next round of Meta/Ray-Ban smart glasses using this kind of display.

I think the camera in the center of the glasses (above the nose) will ultimately win out because YES, if you put a camera on either side it will always have hair interference! Love the vision (pun not intended) behind the design, functionality, and use cases for these types of AR glasses. I cant wait to try some out myself. However, there are a few things that are, as far as I can tell, not being openly spoken about. Having constant AI is a fantastic concept, something I would live, but if I am not wrong (a) it's going to require a constant internet connection, (b) that connection will not be free, (c) the AI will also probably incur an ongoing monthly expense, (d) if you normally wear glasses you are either going to have to pay for prescription inserts or for contact lenses (if you are personally able to wear them) and will still need your normal glasses. Also, with the utmost respect, the review felt a bit like a paid infomersial. Still, I love the reviews on this channel 😊

    The cameras should be blended into the frame and hidden like with the apple vision pro. The front covered does that with the side cameras, but not with the middle one by leaving a hole in the center of the cover. Get a clear and tinted front cover for the glasses that covers all cameras.

    I'm really excited about a product like this.. but one thing is for sure, I won't buy any until it can be confirmed that the device is compatible with a developer and modder ecosystem. It's promising that you can install APKs on this device, that could lead to custom implementations with any LLM or endpoint that a user or developer could want to use. I'll definitely wait patiently and see if this is possible. If not this one.. then surely one company is going to realize the importance of opening up their device to the dev community

People who are not experienced with Extended reality might think this is not good cause you can’t do things that you do on other devices but experience and educated people on XR know AR glasses are Minimalistic. Is supposed to let you do things that you couldn’t before like having an always on Artificial Intelligence, being able to create memories from your point of view, 6 DoF tracking like Quest 2 but you stay in the real world. There still a lot of things and testing that we don’t know about.

    It's a shame specs like FOV or resultion wasn't included even if they're estimated. Looked it up and those are around 25-30 degrees and 480p(SD) apparently. Obviously not the best but the method andtech it uses is obviously muchhh better than methods anyone else is using since its a lot more compact and natural and is obviously the future that will be build off. If a next version can bump it up to 1080p and even only around 35 degrees it would make it even amazing for video and would replace my Xreal Airs instantly. From a hardware only side of things that would the Xreals and defintiely the Apple Vision Pro look like very old tech in comparison. So yeah give me a 1080p version, 35 FOV, and only 3DOF, and i'd still buy them instantly for the media side of things alone.

    • @CasandChary
      @CasandChary  Před 5 měsíci

      Sorry I should have added that - I'll include in the full review. Yeah, it would be great once we hit that point. Waveguide based glasses are nice and thin but come with the trade-off of small resolution display and narrow FOV (which is shown in this video with the through the lenses capture and the anime gal). It's not made for watching video/ screen mirroring like XREAL, but more for the stuff I showed in the video. Whether that's useful to you will be subjective.

      Some companies, in my experience established 3d printer companies, will go crowdfunding for some new products. My guess would be it helps offset some overhead for tooling to manufacture new products, as well as being a way to get a read on minimum demand. The potentially scummy part about it is unlike a pre-order with the company direct, crowdfunding has users opting in to acknowledge that it is NOT a pre-order and therefore there is no promise of an end product so if anything goes wrong with the production they can just keep delaying it or cancel entirely and their financial liability to the customer is much less.

      I got an answer from TCL on this: The Indiegogo platform has a significant number of early adopters passionate for cutting-edge technologies, which aligns well with the positioning of the RayNeo X2 glasses. This is the main reason why we decided to launch this product on Indiegogo. We totally understand backers' conecrn. As a TCL-incubated company, we're confident that we will be able to fulfill all deliveries to our backers. In fact, we have held a successful Indiegogo campaign for our NXTWEAR S glasses last year.

      @@KyleMorrison thinner bezels...sure top bezel needs thickness for cables but the lower bezels made of thin flex titanium or aluminum would make the the glass and and lower bezels more negligible and just a thick stick above the eyes only... Glasses top bezels should be able to be worn just over the top of the eye so the eyes arent the main focus and thinner bezels on the bottom would make the glasses not look like an oversized glasses but instead its own unique look....

    the problem is, other ppl will feel offended when they see cameras on your glasses thinking that you are filming them when you look at them. Yes, humans are just that insecure... but who will reject snapping photos of beautiful ladies in front of them, ya? I mean... that's rude, we shouldn't d..o.... it...

    Some great insight, but it felt like you sidestepped some important attributes about these glasses - and subtly downplayed the competition, with their “basic functions”. Given the product sponsorship, it’s difficult to see this as a review, it feels more like a nudge in their direction.
    They’ve got a lot out of the real estate but nonetheless look practically comical. It’s hard to ignore the Edna look and feel, particularly when shown in comparison to your regular glasses - and yet, no commentary.
    Suggesting three capabilities is a stretch… let’s be honest, they have one function, AR. AI is built into the software that enables the AR tech, but you can’t identify an integration with GPT as a standout function.
    I’d liked to have seen a better comparison with alternatives, but I can see why this was avoided. Bearing in mind the Xreal Ultras come in cheaper, also offer 6DoF, as well as other (more useful) purposes - although, now I sound like an Xreal fanboy, so let’s move on.
    At nearly a grand, and the very limited real life use cases, I can respect its attempt to push the market and further expand adoption of this tech. However, it’s unconvincing and the video created questions I didn’t come here to ask, I’m simply left wondering why the ‘review’ swerved so many of the crucial features.
    That said, the review was a classy production, but I’ll be avoiding the Sponge Bob Square Pants school boy look, thanks 🤓

    Object detection on AR glasses is the worst feature I can think of. If I can not identify the name of an object, likely, I do not know how to read the name of the object on the glasses :)

    • @b.a.beterman8455
      @b.a.beterman8455 Před 5 měsíci +2

      The point of the object recognition is to allow for quicker data searches. If you can just look at something then say, "get me more information on that", and have the AI expand on what you are seeing, that can be very helpful. Manuals, guides, and, other information available with just your voice.

    • @CasandChary
      @CasandChary  Před 5 měsíci +2

      What could be helpful with object detection is that it can do more. Like translate the object in other languages or when asked, providing more info on the object, like the calorie count of the orange

    Feels like we're talking about the same hypotheticals that we were when Google Glass shipped 11 friggin years ago. If this is early adopting, the rate of development for AR has been less than impressive. What would I use these glasses for? Nothing, they're not practically useful.
