+Bill BitClaude Deus Ex human revolution, the trailer has him say it as an opening line, and he proceeds to complain. then the game dropped, did well and people said it for things that didn't please them. it died quickly
The gameplay seems great as ever, it's just too bad that they don't trust the player to find their way around without the constant, "helpful" commentary.
What happened to prompts of rings/bolts, sound effects and score multipliers as audio reinforcement? Sonic Heroes (my first 3D Sonic) as much as I like it only hurt the experience for repeat playthroughs and rarely expressed interesting details (better than Secret Rings which forces commentary on and you can blitz the hazards I guess). Both certain post Heroes Sonic games and this have a similar issue with when characters should be adding in and what. Sadly it isn't just tutorials but likely cases of overlooked sound design since both are 3D platformers (dying genre sorta) and they don't want to be seen as cheap by limiting dialogue to cutscenes. (Fortunately neither has done walk and talk)
+NickonAquaMagna Heck, even in "recent" sonic games besides Boom, no one really talked in the gameplay (Other than the Deadly Six banter in their respective levels 3-4 times in Lost World, and THAT LOOKS LIKE A HOMING SHOT in Generations) Most of the time, if you want help while in the game, you can either just go to the hint circles/omochao. In colors you can turn off the hints, and generations you can turn off Omochao.
+Heru Ctach I few annoying dialogue bits shouldn't stop you from playing what is otherwise one of the best R&C games. Mind you, this is coming from someone that never really got into the PS3 releases.
WaddleDee105 That's far from what stops me from enjoying it, at least on its own. I can't really judge this game, I haven't played it, but I doubt it'd be a fulfilling R&C game for me, especially since no game after ACiT was (Nexus was fairly fun to play, but going through the story seemed a bit annoying when I had to listen to the angst of the characters). I could go on a rant about it, and I hope TGB makes a video on this, but I just don't think that Ratchet and Clank has the same feel that it used to, and I sincerely doubt it's just me being stubborn and aging, but R&C going from a game for teens and kids to something more fitting for a preschooler.
***** I miss when the R&C games were rated T as well but this game is still fantastic, regardless. Like I previously said, I never got into the PS3 ones but I still have been enjoying this new one a lot even if it's not quite the same.
I love Ratchet & Clank. One of the features in the reboot game is "featuring clips from the new movie". Is this 2002? Anyway, I still want to watch the new movie but am I the only one upset that they made Ratchet a nice guy right from the start? In the original game he was an assailed who later becomes good friends with Clank
@@hyperdark06 Separate universe sure... except that because this game exists, it will make the newer players turn a blind eye to the original. Hell, the Completionist even stated the major differences between them, and probably wouldn't have played the original if it hadn't been for his fans to implore him to experience it.
I really get the feeling the same schmuck gave shitty advice to all the game producers in North America and now those producers are forcing developers to make these stupid design decisions. I mean, it's the same problems over and over again.
i just completed the game and enjoyed it, the problems for me was of course this shit, Ratchet errand boy attitude and the music was the most generic orchestral shit possible
Dilly i have a thumb drive with all the Ratchet and Clank soundtracks, i NEED to use that because the music from the 2016 game mixed in with recognizable levels actualy make me think about suicide, and im not even suicidal in the slightest thats how bad i think it is...*sniff* why Insomniac, why?
If you think about it Insomniac and Naughty Dog are basically opposite Insomniac took an edgy teen game and made it kid friendly while Naughty Dog took a kid friendly game and made it for edgy teen the difference is that Naughty dog didn't make Jak 4 as opposed to R&C They really are opposite
I played the old Ratchet and Clank games AS A KID and enjoyed/understood them. I don't get why these creators always use the excuse "this is for kids" when they remake something great into a hand-holding, carebear fest... kids are capable of playing games without all that.
Agreed. They rely on western animation studios too much that make bad kids pandering films and think it's solid but they make stuff in their 20s in the 90s/00s 'oh it must be bad' even though it holds up. It isn't dated like they so called think. Kids aren't stupid they are taught things so teach them not pander with noise and garbage. If they are willing to explore and care to enjoy the game they will if they aren't that's up to them. Some will those are their audience. But they seem to not understand that.
This dialogue is what kills the game for me. It is so frequent and annoying. The original games would never be this vocal, as it allows you to figure shit out on your own and feel more immersed and relaxed in the gameplay. The dialogue in this remake however, makes me find myself getting a headache and telling ratchet to shut the fuck up about the obvious enemies and platforming that is in front of him. The story and music in this game is also dreadful, and doesn't have any charm and faithfulness to the original
+CyrusBluebird Its not as if Ratchet wasn't a nerd in the old games previously. In Up Your Arsenal Ratchet gets excited when he finds out there's a game system on the ship (the one you use to play Quark comics). Its just that in here they chose to turn it up......a lot. I assume its so that gamers can relate to him more, trying to make him more down to earth (heh). That being said I prefer the Ratchet who was pretty cool but I could still relate to him since everyone else in universe seemed rather illogical and as result always got the short end of the stick.
Jamesdesuperweeb the original struck me as more of an introvert while this tie in to film version seems to be more on the extrovert side. This just means there's no character growth though the games where we got to know him better. To me it comes across as trying to pander to those who already played all through the series while also trying to open him up to a broader audience achieving neither. It used to be great having a back and forth between Ratchet and Clank because they we of opposing opinions while having to work together.
Madberty nice ad hominem. I'm aware the Starfox 64 3DS port/rework, but most likely the kids out there are playing mobile games, and will be out of the loop for that, more so since this is a Sony property referencing a Nintendo 64 game which meme died long ago, not counting the virtual console releases. Also the game seems to talk to much to be palatable for teens & adults. You can have innuendoes peppered in for some adult chuckles, it's just hard to enjoy something which won't shut the fuck up to the point of cutting itself off. We ask for quality in all media, and what Charlie has shown us is not a quality game for all ages. It's a condescending, pandering mess of trying to be both a remake and tie in for the film.
CyrusBluebird I agree with this, but it isn't part of the original argument at all. You said because the game has a Starfox reference it's somehow no longer aimed at children. I said referencing something meant for older audiences doesn't mean the focus has changed. I'm not disagreeing that the game dialogue and story is pandering and annoying, I just find your original point pretty nit-picky.
Even if you turn dialogue volume to 0, the music still fades out for dialogue. So the music is not only bland and not nearly good as the original, but it constantly fades in and out.
This also happens in the new Lego Star Wars game. It’s weird how this big games need to add so much in order to avoid dead air. Momentary silence is okay.

Exactly. The original soundtracks just don't fit well when there's people talking. Of course, they decided to go with the shitty dialogue option instead of the amazing soundtracks
Definitely a far cry from the first games where you kinda had to figure out where to go next. Your only source of help being mission objectives not checked off on a planet.
This SHOULD have been an improvement from the original, much like the Reignited Trilogy was. But instead, this is nothing but an insult to it. Also since i'm bringing up the Reignited Trilogy: they eventually added an option to turn off the excessive motion blur which would've been greatly appreciated here. As it stands though, this dialog is Bubsy 3D levels of OMG SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Bubsy due to bad voice acting direction the actor is actually good in other works. Gex has its annoyance too but it suits the tv referencing of the tv based levels.
Am I the only one who liked the gameplay of the original more? plus the storyline in the remake is insufferable and the music is just shameful. and to be completely honest, the music was one of the best selling points for me in this game for me, the PS3 versions strayed away from this and even with David at the hands of ToD it was still rather unrecognizable from the PS2 titles, then he left the series after that and RIP. Ratchet was kind of a dick in the first game but I actually liked the way they did it (being pissed off at clank about Quark's trap was actually justifiable IMO).
Im glad Ratchet Deadlocked was my last Ra C game. The future series felt like it was ripping off a certain dc character' s origin and got too serious at times.
@korrok they weren't terrible The game was literally the same but with slower strafing, however that wasn't an issue because the entire game was meant to be played without any And the camera only had issues when running into a wall, like every other game, ever? I've been playing this game since I got the HD collection and haven't ran into any camera issues
@korrok I feel the exact opposite. The original you had to make smart use of your arsenal, using the appropriate weapon for that scenario. 2 and onwards I just jumped side to side to side, mindlessly blasting enemies with whatever gun I wanted to level up.

They're just trying to make the game feel more "kid friendly"
+NickonAquaMagna
It's for 2016 kids. Apparently they're dumber, simpler and have more ADHD tendencies.
+NickonAquaMagna
Guess Insomniac saw DSP play the game and thought "Wow all modern gamer must be this bad". Sadly they were very wrong.
What a trick? Are we looking at the next children game?
The original was rated T you nub
@@PFBM86 The one in this video isn't, lol.
@@PFBM86 Because there wasn't an E10+ rating at the time, plus it's PEGI 3+ in europe lol
Yeeeeaa... banter is like porn, once in a while it's nice, but listen to that all day and you have no idea how quickly it's gonna get old...

There should've been some sort of time lock on lines that were recently used.
ThePreciseClimber You'd think their testers would have said something... like OH MY GAWD Y U NO SHUTUP, but appearently not.

I wanna hug Clank so bad at times. X3
"i like him :("
@@tailedgates9 saaameee
I'm so glad I found this video! I thought I was the only one that HATED the fact that I would constantly hear dialogue during gameplay. So irritating!
Ratchet: "Nerd.."
Clank: "I like him."
Me: "I don't. Thankfully, the older games still exist."
ThePreciseClimber
Actually, I do like him; I don't see anything wrong with him being such a jerk in the first game.
***** I miss when the R&C games were rated T as well but this game is still fantastic, regardless. Like I previously said, I never got into the PS3 ones but I still have been enjoying this new one a lot even if it's not quite the same.
I liked the old Ratchet games with the minimal dialogue during gameplay. It felt more raw.
*coMe anD BUy A PixELIiZeR!*
WHAT A TRICK
I love Ratchet & Clank. One of the features in the reboot game is "featuring clips from the new movie". Is this 2002? Anyway, I still want to watch the new movie but am I the only one upset that they made Ratchet a nice guy right from the start? In the original game he was an assailed who later becomes good friends with Clank
THIS. I cant stress how big of a deal it is to make ratchet a nice guy from the start. There was actual character developement in the original games.
+Arcademan09 true but think it like this as a seperate universe from the originals
even the video game version implies that.
@@hyperdark06 Separate universe sure... except that because this game exists, it will make the newer players turn a blind eye to the original.
Hell, the Completionist even stated the major differences between them, and probably wouldn't have played the original if it hadn't been for his fans to implore him to experience it.
@@mcihay246 it's a remake/reimagine so they needed to see what it would be like if rachet was some nice dimbo
I really get the feeling the same schmuck gave shitty advice to all the game producers in North America and now those producers are forcing developers to make these stupid design decisions. I mean, it's the same problems over and over again.
+Marcara081 that actually sounds pretty plausible.
i just completed the game and enjoyed it, the problems for me was of course this shit, Ratchet errand boy attitude and the music was the most generic orchestral shit possible
did they fuck up metropolis? it's probably my favorite r&c track so i'm pretty nervous to hear what they did
+pandaraph since ps3 era the sountracks were not that memorable
Some were. WERE.
fsdaaa ffsadhjif they sure did
Dilly i have a thumb drive with all the Ratchet and Clank soundtracks, i NEED to use that because the music from the 2016 game mixed in with recognizable levels actualy make me think about suicide, and im not even suicidal in the slightest thats how bad i think it is...*sniff* why Insomniac, why?
"It's a kid's game!"
1:17....
It sounds se........ Whoa.
If you think about it Insomniac and Naughty Dog are basically opposite Insomniac took an edgy teen game and made it kid friendly while Naughty Dog took a kid friendly game and made it for edgy teen the difference is that Naughty dog didn't make Jak 4 as opposed to R&C
They really are opposite
Ratchet and Clank doesn’t really have blood and cursing compared to Jak and Daxter.
I much much much prefer 2002's ratchet and clank, and this is one of the reasons why
Ratchet and Clank has gone full Sonic.
Ratchet Adventure 2: Clank Unleashed.
Q-Force Heroes.
Shadow the Lombax.
Ratchet: Lost Planet. (no, wait. There's already a Capcom game called that)
Messofanego Ratchet has done something known to the industry as "doing a sonic"
For one game sure but their not that far deep
*ohno*
THAT LOOKS LIKE A HOMING SHOT.
Finally, the long awaited sequel to Dragon's Dogma
Harpies!
wolves hunt in packs Arisen!
But they're master works all! You can't go wrong!
The tail is severed!
MASTER!! STRIKE THE FINAL BLOW!
Original Ratchet & Clank fans: hah nerd
General audiences(TM) who don’t know what they're missing out on: I like him
Just... how did this game get such good ratings?!?
just, how did this channel even say bad things about reboots?
Kid Icarus: Uprising. It's cute at first, and it still has it's moments, but fuuuuuuck it never ends.
Sadly Rift Apart is exactly the same.
as long as i don't get annoyed by nobody shutting up in the game, i hope so since i would probably strangle someone to death from it.
Ratchet watch out it looks like a homing attack!
That looks like a homing shot!
Is that the reference?
(I know this comment is 5 years old)
Ratchet & Clank became the very thing it used to mock.
Sad.
Oh and I thought the Sonic voices were bad.

+Roy Havenstone
Rise of Clank..ic. I dunno, can't come up with a clever pun.
Those are super worse than this...
Arnold: SHUUUUUT UUUUUUUPPP!!! Shut up! Shut up!....
"It's for kids" Then why use a Starfox 64 reference/meme?
Also why the personality change?
They used a Starfox reference therefore the game isn't aimed at kids? There are innuendoes and references in kid's shit all the time.
"What if Sonic Boom has fun gameplay?"
Looks like another game has been a victim of Sonic Boom Syndrome
I love how they just ripped off the Daleks for nerd brownie points. Remember when games and meta jokes weren't shameless? Me neither.

Exactly. The original soundtracks just don't fit well when there's people talking. Of course, they decided to go with the shitty dialogue option instead of the amazing soundtracks

So this is how Ratchet and Clank dies... with thunderous dialogue...
Sonic Boom levels actually
Same
On R&C 2002 the gameplay required variety, thought, and execution
After that game you just strafe and press X and shoot to win
@korrok they weren't terrible
The game was literally the same but with slower strafing, however that wasn't an issue because the entire game was meant to be played without any
And the camera only had issues when running into a wall, like every other game, ever? I've been playing this game since I got the HD collection and haven't ran into any camera issues
@korrok I feel the exact opposite. The original you had to make smart use of your arsenal, using the appropriate weapon for that scenario. 2 and onwards I just jumped side to side to side, mindlessly blasting enemies with whatever gun I wanted to level up.
True. In most current games they are constantly talking
And this kids, is why Mario and The Legend Of Zelda don't need voice acting. Stop asking for it
+Ole Dandy Furry Trash you're living in the past.
+ihatevoyager in the past, we used to habe games that had action and control of your character, in the present, we have annoying dialogue and unskippable walking segments...

+Greg Cadman They were definitely a treat when they were introduced in Tools of Destruction, but now they're beating a dead horse.
+Greg Cadman The FIRST time he was great. Joke's starting to overstay it's welcome though.

YO, WHERE MY BOUNCE PADS AT?
I saw a video featuring planet Novalis a few days ago. I immediately was perturbed by Ratchet and Clank hastily saying some lines with no poise or timing after crash landing. They walk forward make a statement and another and another. They keep fucking talking while they use the elevator to get down. I gathered this from one video. Everything shown prior to this did not feature this constant chatter. It's so bad I'm expecting them to patch it.
