    First is the 1941 Doubled Ear FS-103 and this example in the image sold for over $1,050. It looks like a little bump to the back of the ear lob. One thing to note is that there's more than one doubled die for 1941 and only the FS-103 is considered the doubled ear. The same can be said for many double dies, not all of them are double ears.
    Varieties and errors are just as much valued by their grade as their variety, similarly to normal coins.
    Second is the 1984 Doubled Ear FS-101 and this is the one that most people know about. It has an obvious doubled ear lobe as you can see in the images. This example in the images sold for over $2,200 because of how high it graded. Values for these range from $100 and up in mint state red and what they sell for depends on the grading company they're graded by.
    Third up is the 1988 Doubled Ear FS-101 and the doubled ear isn't as prominent when compared to the 1984. Although it is one of the better examples of a doubled ear you will see.
    Fourth is the 1997 Doubled Ear FS-101 and this particular doubled ear is easy to confuse with a contact mark since the spread of the ear and secondary is small. This particular example sold for over $200.
    Lincoln cents are dropped onto each other many times during their time at the mint and during circulation. When they strike each other on their rim's edge they can impart long and straight cuts into other coins.
    If this happens on the ear some mistake that for a doubled ear. So if you think you have found a doubled ear then look up the year at CONECA or coppercoins.com. Usually they will have images and die markers that help you ID if your coin is a variety or which variety it is.
    Here's some examples of coins with contact marks on their ears, none of these are doubled dies let alone doubled ears.
    You can see the contact marks look much different than an actual doubled ear. You can see how these are angled a bit and almost mimic being doubled. We have members post coin images like this often and this is but a few examples of circulation damaged coins.
    In addition the 1941, 1984, 1988 and the 1997 are not the only doubled ear lincoln cents, there's more, but the rest found so far are not as obvious as the examples above. These are in different directions smaller spreads and this is due to the class of doubled die they are. Not to go into too much detail but there's at least 8 different classes of doubled dies and each have their own characteristics.
    So here's the list and it's not comprehensive since I am sure there's more out there and more to be discovered once this video is published. As you can see there's many dates here and once you learn to ID doubled die you will be able to look for these as well. You might also discover the next new doubled ear variety.

    Thanks Daniel! I know its going to get "straightened out"in your videos lol. Daniel is bringing the FACTS people,not the myths. I've been watching and learning from him for a few years on here and he's helped me out more than anyone else on CZcams. Get yourself the text books you need. Cherry Pickers Guide, Ken Potter has a book titled "Strike it Rich With Pocket Change" i purchased it as well. It doesn't cover every variety or error but its great learning material and a perfect place to start. Doubt you'll get rich,but youll sure have more fun when you learn exactly what you're looking for. You rock Daniel! I sure appreciate you buddy

    Thank you. I really thought given all the talk about 'doubled ear' pennies that the entirety of the outter ear was doubled, so I really think I probably overlooked some of these that should actually be called doubled earlobe pennies. So seeing these pictures will definitely prevent more mistakenly tossed pennies on my part.

    I found a 1983-D doubled ear WDD0-001 last night. You spoke nothing about that doubled ear. In fact I didn't know it was out there until I found one. It's in AU grade and my coin dealer sent it to PCGS to have it authenticated. He says a authenticated double ear cent in AU red will make the cent more valuable because it's a verified WDD0-001. Maybe you can make a video on the 1983-D double ear cent to so more people know about it.

I also posted it to the NGC forum where one person responded and did say it looked like a double earlobe, so am confused. It's not in the greatest condition, and am wondering whether I should get it restored and submit it for grading if it weren't a double earlobe. And 2004 Penny. Thank

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  Před 5 lety

      2004 penny is worth one cent, the Close AM is worth some money but depends on the grade. Needs to be sent off and certified and graded. I am not interested in buying these coins though. Thanks

    The true working hub die doubling of working hub on a working die... from my research;
    MASTER hub doubling/working HUB is rare...so many misinformed and misled coin buyers out there. We need very specialized pregrade inspectors. Don't buy unngraded hub/die doubling. Most suspects are working die machine doubling (worth face value) NOT MASTER/HUB.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  Před 5 lety

      Working die doubled die is the most rare since only one die was doubled. Master hub doubled is more common because you never know how many working dies the master working hub created.
