"...5000 years of finding out a way to put metal in the other guy" simplified humanity to a couple of words, impressive.
I mean, not wrong 😂
Humanity, still just a bunch of monkeys finding more effective methods to fling dung and rocks at one another, bullets and bioweapons, yee-effin-haw!!
And accurately.
Was going to say the exact same thing, dang it Eldor, get out of my head! :P
Nah, why say metal when a pointy stick or some rocks are enough ? Or a nuclear bomb :D
As someone working in research, seeing the people completing patents so fast is more unbelievable than the stargate lol.
Man's got that Einstein fast-track connection
My concern is that they are completely skipping the research paper stage.
@@TheTallGuyNamedNat Industry research at its "finest". Academic researchers eat your heart out lol
First discovery of alien plant, makes a bioweapon.
Welcome to the Umbrella Corporation :)
its soooo on time.. im currently in the middle of rewatching Stargate SG-1 series
The lack of a good Stargate video game or boardgame is a travesty.
This was my first thought. Also so many good games that would fit the gameplay but don't go thematically with Stargate. A real shame
They keep trying, and they don't seem to understand what people like about Stargate.
A major travesty.
@@SomeKindaSpy I never figured out how hard is is for a studio to reach tot he fandom or hire like 10 fans to help them put with thoughts. I bet they could get hundred of fans for free too.
There is a Stargate game currently in development by Slitherine "Stargate Timekeepers" and seems to be similar to Desperados/Commandos/Shadow Tactics in the real-time tactics genre.
From what I remember it's set in the SG1 universe, shortly after the battle for Antarctica and you'll control a new team of characters.
Throwback on Dungeon Keeper / Dungeons. And anything with Stargate is a plus in my book.
Chevron 1 - encoded! ;-)
Indeed
When I saw the droids put down the tiles on the newly dug area, this so came to mind.
I would say Evil Genius is closer. Not sure if that is a well known game though.
@@davidjames1068 Pretty known for those who likes Dungeon Keeper ;-)
I wish the base was actually located within a mountain base. Having the weird mountain fog outside everything kind of makes the world feel small and empty.
Evil genius?
As the game is still in early access that very well could be something they add in later.
I agree, this game needs more events. Or something to make it more interactive, at least. Right now it's kind of bare bones, but they picked a cool setting for the game to give it fertile ground for lots of ideas. I really hope they utilize that.
Time for the Goa'uld to invade
Should be easy enough now a days.
Just ask ChatGPT to generate a few thousand of them based on some data about the planet.
I instantly lost interest when I realized that the away missions are non-interactive. Instantly. I was so excited for the game, too.
Dungeon Keeper but Stargate. Say no more, Splat, you've already sold me.
"Five is a nice even number"
I'm excited for this one based on your last video of it. I might wait for it to be more fleshed out tho.
27:24 "Five is a nice even number".
No it's not. It's round, lol. We love you, Splat.
Pretty sure the Cobb with 2 b's is a o'neill reference from Stargate, that tickled my biscuit.
"Now we can beam ourselves ass-first into the future!"
About choked to death on my beverage from that one...
This is just like my favorite TV show, Wormhole X-Treme!
Oh man yeah, you remember the episode when they only had two minutes left to get back to the wormhole before the cerberus was locked out and they had more than two kilometers to cover. I could never have guessed how Colonel Danning did it even though he was heavily bleeding and Dr.Levant was infected with a mind altering nano bacterium from the cambrium.
"Man… we spend 26 thousand dollars in 9 minutes… you'd think we'd be Warhammer 40k players"
Too real.
My relationship with Games Workshop ended when they released new editions of Blood Bowl and 40K two years in a row - and you had to get the entire box set (BBowl), not just new rules, in order to compete. And they banned all 3rd party miniatures from competition. That was some years ago now. (I'm 54 - got my first pieces when I was 9)
I laughed so hard when he said that
"We're already well on our way towards sort of a Northrop-Grumman ending to this whole experience" 😄😄
Perfect timing, I've been looking for Stargate-style games.
"Mom can I have Evil Genius?"
"We have Evil Genius at home."
Evil Genius at home:
I picked this up after watching your vid. (Not the first game you've sold me on.)
You were asking for more interaction with the teams. Apparently, that's the "difficulty" slider you pick when you start a new game. If you go to the right, your teams will ask you for support more. On the left, they work autonomously. You picked the middle one. I went with the right and have has some really fun interactions.
I do hope they add a lot more. They add a lot to the fun of the game.
The building and art style makes me thing Evil Genius.
Love that your default scifi music is the voyager theme song 😂😂😂
"I think I'm Hyperventilating!" Can't ask for a better "First Statement" than that.
@40:05 That was Sam Neil, and Event Horizon was TERRIFYING! LOL Great flick. Sorry, spoilers, I know. Incredible movie, great video, and now I'm off to play EG2 again.
I still don't know how we haven't had a Stargate or Stargate inspired game that is just X-Com.
Like that shit seems a no-brainer.
Closest game I've seen (which isn't Stargate at all) is the Warhammer Chaosgate game that came out about a year ago. Its basically xcom and you go through a stargate. But doesn't feel like SG-1 at all.
I’ve been excited to see this one. It looks good, I hope they keep the momentum and flesh the game out.
Splat, im super stoned right now but youre reviews are amazing. youre a damn genius. i love all of your idea man. well done
Feels more like a throwback to evil genius
> Jordan, "And I took that personally."
Goes to alien world, finds life, think hmm can we make a bioweapon.. yup Weyland-yutani confirmed.
Definitely looks like Evil Genius. (Again, same mechanics as Dungeon Keeper 1/2) Those sanitized walls... Has James Bond Evil Villain lair vibes.
That is the game I was trying to remember.
Finally, a chance to feel like Gen. Hammond.
Will name my first team SG-1
"sociopathic minecraft Steve" had me rolling dude... xD
So I was keeping an eye on the chrarcter with frostbite, and do you know what I saw? the medic treated her three or four times before becoming hungry and walking away, but the character wasn't healed. and i was thinking that's really inefficient. BUT THEN! the other medic came in and finished the job. that, sir, that right there is such good planning on behalf of the devs. Thanks Splatty.
Splat: "P and we will call the PeaTeam"
me yelling at the screen: "That's Rho the greek letter!"
😂😂😂
Or it is just a P.
Chill
Plus he spelled it wrong and didn't make their color gold. Fail all around.
One more to the list.
Thanks for showcasing. ^^
I REALLY hope you do more of this and I hope I can catch you at the time, this looks good. ty
The game looks really promising, I love the idea of the devs going a bit of a Wildermyth route with it!
Stargate reference in the very first text box. Love it.
Really cool look at this game. Think I might get it based on this video. Also, great to hear someone referencing Event Horizon...one of my favorite sci-fi flicks. VERY underrated, in my opinion.
There was a Starwars Xcom-style game in the works for a while, but it was regrettably cancelled.
Everything looks like an Evil Genius 2 clone, the building, style, everything.
Can you cover Mechabellum? It is an amazing turn based strategy game with real time combat and MECHS! The clue is that after every round, you get all the lost units back, and can add new units or upgrades, trying to counter the placement of the enemy. This leads to an amazing back and forth over the rounds, with the battle escalating each turn.
Looks good! Thanks!
Game looks fun, but there is still nothing better than getting your imps to work faster by slapping them. Also the commentary in dungeon keeper is priceless. Paralleled only by Darkest dungeon commentary.
Evil Genius + Space - World domination.
LOL Petit's elation reminds me of Jebediah from Kerbal Space Program.
This game is both a nestalgia hit which is HUGE + in my book and a great modern take on the genre I will definately be looking into this asap.
I've been really looking forward for this game but it's a little expensive for my country. Thanks for uploading this!
Room-to-Room tile/linoleum is common in house rentals where the landlord expects a high turnover of dirty people.
A game from the perspective of Weyland-Yutani. Now you’ve got a great idea!
Symmetricity is actually a word.
Love how Splat talks about peoples in his house knocking walls out, then starts playing a game where bots start knocking walls out! Those must be some confused contractors if they was listening!
It’s possible.
This looks like a mix of SimCity and Stargate. This could be great!
Thanks for showing us this one. The material on Steam didn't help me much, but this video made me put the game on my wishlist to buy it at some point. Otherwise, I fully agree. They need like 200-300 different events. 50-100 of them should change a random char from the team. Visibly or invisibly. With bonus to one or more stats or negative impact on them, or even both. Besides the injuries.
I know you don’t usually cover mobile games but this reminds me a LOT of a text mobile game called Beyond the Chiron Gate. Would highly recommend to anyone who’d like this one. It’s on IOS, not sure about Android
What Splat is saying about more planetary events is most of BtCG. It’d be cool if these two games could be combined
Definitely will be picking this one up
The divisible by 5 thing is actually a pretty standard human thing, and if memory serves me right it has to do with the fact we have 5 fingers, which makes us want to group things in fives. Not an universal rule (nothing human is) but it’s very frequent.
Sounds like made up nonsense.
It's a consequence of consistency and predictably in base 10. Adding 5 is easy because is just alternates between being divisible by 10 and 5, and just 5, and 10.
e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25.. That shit just ends with 5 or 0 no matter how far you go. Alternating patterns are easy.
Where with something like 6, you've got 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, then 36, 42, 38, 54, 60, etc... you've got a pattern that only repeats after every 5, and is only recognizable within a block of 30, and that's a lot harder to train into being automatic.
@David Miller not made up nonsense, just poorly presented data spewed on a comment section. Numerosity perception is a thing, you can check on Google, and four or five seem to be the human higher accurate estimates without actually couting objects. There are also studies that show that we do better on estimates of larger numbers if it's presented to us in easy to group form. So his perception of quantity of robots on screen will usually be more accurate if those are in groups of his most accurate perception, which is around 4 or 5. If that has to do with fingers eeeh. Might be misremembering or misrepresenting the actual data (and a lot of press coverage of science does and that's most of my sources)
@David Miller I also wanna point out that it's not a coincidence that a decimal numerical representation has consistent repetition in decimal intervals. We have 10 symbols 0 to 9, that's not the natural way numbers appear, that is a human creation (the symbol, not the number). It's how we choose to organize things. And perhaps the fact that our brains seem to be hardwired to perceive numerosity in groups of up to five has a lot to do with that choice
This seems like a really interesting title. Went ahead and added it to my wishlist but I'm going to wait until they've updated it a bit more before purchasing.
The actor you're thinking of is Jason Isaacs, I believe. Great actor.
Poor Jordan, always left behind.
The part of the game I find attractive is the dialogue. There must be tons of it !
Nice run through as usual SC.
That one mushroom that takes over people's brains... thinking of Cordyceps perhaps, as seen in the Last of Us?
"Can I get a steer, XO?"
Sure, I'll send one over. (as soon as I can source one from a local farm)
Linoleum like that everywhere would make it really easy to clean. Good for kids. It's not for me, but if you were especially utilitarian, I get it.
Nice, this one's going on my wishlist
I can't believe you mentioned so many references and not once you mentioned Stargate.
Waiting for this to be available... soon 😎
Cool, I was just considering this as I got a notification saying it's out and with a little discount.
Just a thought on getting more convo between characters put the eating area more in group tables.
You know, Splattercat, Evil Genius has an excellent technique for recruiting that helps save money. It's the "Chloroform in Rag" method of recruitment. You should try that.
That Warhammer comment hurt, because it is so true.
"Who do send first?"
"The one with the Austrian painters haircut"
Going to have to get this game now
I really hope this is good, Evil Genius 2 felt a bit half baked when it released so I've been waiting for another game in this genre (Dungeons 3 was the last good one I recall playing). Will keep an eye on this.
War for the Overworld is great ;-)
@@igorthelight it is but it came out like 10 years ago haha, was talking about more recent games.
@@Jasta85 Fair point xD
14:46
Peter Griffin impersonation ............ not bad 8/10
Id really like to see the characters related stat to crafting etcsuch as each persons knowledge when selecting someone for writing patents
Looks really interesting, cool
"I spent 26,000 in 40 minutes, you'd think I was a warhammer 40k player." True 😂
Symmetricity is a perfectly cromulent word!
Oh, this is just exactly the same as the Evil Genius lair building. Like, it's the same engine and everything works the same.
Everytime she said XO it just looks like XD to me.
You should stream anyway and position another camera on the contractor. Maybe they'll be motivated to finish quickly and correctly, knowing they are being monitored by a thousand or more people.
I get it though. I had an apartment be renovated while I was in it, and it felt like it took 3 months. Actually not entirely sure what the duration really was, but it was extremely uncomfortable to not have my SPACE to myself. And it manifested as low grade asshole mood for quite some time. Hope it all goes smoothly for ya. And I really enjoy catching your streams, more than any other content creator.
Minute 5: "Oh, so Evil Genious without "evil" part
Minute 20: "A, we are a corporation, Never mind then: colonisation and bioweapons - here we go"
"Life from another world!"
"Awesome, ain't it?"
"You bet! What shall we do with it?"
"Make Covid-20."
*surprisedPikachuFace*
Not to be that guy... But the 19 comes from the year the string was first discovered. So even assuming this is present-day, it would be Covid-23.
@@YodaIzChaos we are too dumb to deserve life sometimes
rooms need doors!, but space-shrooms, can't go wrong
Man they went from 0 to Weyland-Yutani in like zero seconds flat.
Reminds a bit of xenotactics mobile game. Spin off of annihilation-enter the zone with a squad they get truama or buffs from exposure.
I was today days old when I found out Splat is a Mulan fan
Looks interesting. I'm curious how divergent the gameplay will be as time goes on.
Welcome to General Hammond sim! :)
19:04 I wish we could hear the clickity-clack of the keyboard or really any of the game sounds in his videos.
This video was fun to watch , could have been longer too
"Five is a nice even number"
real tasmanian devils don't tend to leave much mess behind :)
I wish they hadn't made their faces so mannequin-like. If they'd slapped some goggles or even opaque, rectangular glasses on the scientists, Gendo style, helmets on guards/soldiers if they exist, and hard hats and goggles on engineers if they exist in the game, it would have been a lot better. Or at least made it an option.
Heavy Dungeon keeper vibes.
Wow, a few years ago I had a concept for a game incredibly similar to this. Goes to show if you come up with an idea you need to act on it asap
Your game could be more focused on something else: more military or more exploration ;-)
There are only so many viable ideas, and it’s been theorized that pretty much every living person of moderate intelligence has come up with one great invention- but, just like you said, they never acted on it. It was never stolen or invented by someone else, they just forget their idea existed and we all lose out because they never acted on their singular moment of brilliance :/ the rest of our great innovations have been taken, recycled, and reiterated- i.e. the automobile, the lightbulb, the internet, etc.
Sounds a lot like a movie and tv series
looks cool
This is slick.
Yarp, Anthrax and definitely not a Spanish crown virus :P
