The Mid Hants Railway held a diesel Gala on 12th to 14 th July 2024 with some interesting locomotive combinations. Class 43 (HST's Power Cars) from Railadventure coupled together and hauling the 4TC stock. Several Class 50 locomotives 50008 "Thunderer" from Hanson & Hall, 50021 "Rodney" A freightliner class 59 (59104), A pair of class 20s A wonderfully turned out 4TC stock courtesy of London Transport and other shunting loco's providing brake van rides from Ropley. 47579 "James Nightall G.C. hauled trains as well and looked splendid. I based myself at Rookwood Lane on the climb out of Ropley to Four Marks, where I captured most of the Locomotives on route to and from Alton and then I re positioned myself at Medstead & Four Marks Station for the remainder of the event. All went very well and the sun blessed me with her presence for the day.
The following day I visited Farnham (Surrey) where I saw the 2 Power cars pass through on their way back to King's Norton, but the class 50 + TC were delayed by 5 hours due to some strange excuse that the train was out of gauge going through platform 1 (Up Platform) at Aldershot. MMmmm?. Everyone had given up waiting for the train by then and the weather had returned to WET. Did any one see it on it's return to Eastleigh?....another time I dare say....I hope you enjoy this short glimpse of the event and may the MHR put on another grand spectacle soon.
