►About the Game -
A mysterious signal has been recorded coming from the red planet.
The message confounded Orochi scientists. Their analysts broke it down and determined it was of intelligent origin. Orochi management immediately concluded that the discovery was too sensitive for public knowledge and moved to keep it hidden. In secret, the corporation began construction of Trailblazer Alpha, a state-of-the-art Mars research outpost designed to identify the true nature of the message.
You are Shane Newehart, an engineer stationed at Trailblazer Alpha and your security clearance means you are completely unaware of the existence of the mysterious signal. Your job is simply to keep the lights on until the transport ship Cyrano arrives bringing with it a new team to take over your duties.
Soon you discover strange and unusual setbacks. Crucial systems are malfunctioning, the greenhouse is filled with a strange mist and the rest of your team has yet to return from their EVA mission.
Things are starting to fall apart.
You begin seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. Visions, hallucinations - or is that even what it is? Is this real… or are you slowly descending into madness?
Experience true cosmic horror
With your only hope of rescue hundreds of thousands of miles away, you will be forced to explore the real-world fears of isolation and paranoia, enhanced with supernatural elements and cosmic horror. Terrifying visions and monstrous apparitions will make you question what is real and what is not as the very fabric of reality threatens to tear at the seams.
Explore the darker side of Mars
Navigate a functioning Mars base in a game that uses non-fiction elements to immerse players in a believable setting. Overcome obstacles using computers, electrical systems, rovers, solar panels and more, then go beyond the outpost and explore the darker side of Mars.
Moons of Madness draws upon the rich lore and mythology of Funcom’s Secret World Legends. Both games exist in the same thematic universe, but playing one is not a prerequisite to enjoy the other.

"oh you can sprint up ladders!" He says literally in the ending sequence of the game
aw, Declan. :( I liked him. He and Josie lasted so long just to be done in at the end of the game, what a pity... also, in terms of 'feeling of isolation', most of the game didn't really feel so lonely when Shane could still occasionally talk to Declan (and have Josie yell at them, and 'mom'). overall I think it was fun! thanks for playing!
When dealing with "old ones" trust NO ONE. Not even yourself. Actually make that ESPECIALLY yourself.
No moons of madness of sorts in secret world, but MILD SPOILERS for The Park/Secret World:
A gaia engine lies underneath the island The Park takes place on, and the filth is present underneath the island as well. At the end of The Park, you see the main character talking to someone interviewing her/asking her about the events with her son. He has in his hand a jar that has a bee inside. He intends to make the main character ingest the bee and thus become an agent of sorts of Gaia. The recurring theme in secret world isn't moons of madness, but sun eaters (something the dreamers are referred to as), sun cults devoted to sun eaters (and a segment of the game gets rather Indiana Jones), and Orochi is a major player in everything going on. That's before getting into what Orochi is really about in that game and such. The lore is pretty damn good, but it does have it's issues much like this game.
Thanks for this LP.
I read the lore conections to Secret World and this game either takes place before or after Orochi poped the Filth bomb in Tokyo. I thought about it because of the plans of city on Mars in basement labs of the base
@@masterzoroark6664 After the Tokyo bomb. Between the bomb and Earth's distant, inevitable end, safe to assume "Samuel Chandra" was eyeing moon hotels/cities (there's an advertisement in Tokyo for the moon hotel players can see on billboards in Secret World) and a Mars city option for a reason.
And as he drifts away, he sees his life flash before his eyes..... in the form of end credits, lol. That aside, I've actually enjoyed this one. Nice environment, the unraveling was interesting, and though there's a lot of exploring, it tries not to fall under one note. If I've got any gripes, it'll have to be Cynthia's melodramatic voice that runs throughout the game, and the impatience of the MC's companions towards the latter. (The fact that we get to hear a step-by-step rundown of their failings, while you kept yelling to wait, adds to that annoyance.)
Man, we got our Halloween Treat early, with not just one, but two games and their conclusions.
What sort of horrors will we find tomorrow when it is Halloween?
NightBazaar No new video.😱😂😂lmao. 🤭(That would be funny though)
@@Charelle250 NOOOoooo! That would be a horror!
Thanks for the awesome playthrough! You didn't get the puzzle wrong. Mama dearest just "tricked" you into opening it and letting the dreamers out. Doing nothing would've worked. Same with going to space and beaching the barrier. That said, they were already waking up anyway, so you probably couldn't have stopped it. But last time that still took like a thousand years. Here you poked it a lot quicker by going back. Oh, and there was a proper way to jump down. :p
Avoiding the stuff in the sand reminded me of avoiding the stuff in the swamp in the Beast Inside
Elizabeth Foster Right! It reminded me of that as well. I was thinking 💭 that monster knows how to travel. Hmm
Thank you for the alternate ending there at the very end of the video! I was wondering what happens if you do nothing.
This game was pretty good. I was still left feeling it was missing a small something, and in not quite sure what, maybe more from the witch/mother? Still damn good
I am SO in love with your gameplays I think I already watched most of your playlists. They helped me in crisis times, didn't find a better way of not having panic attacks than watching you playing, so really, thank you!! And your voice is amazingly good to hear, for real.
I really enjoyed this one, probably one of the better 'Lovecraftian' games to come out. At least since Bloodborne. It was nice to finally see one at least that understood that Cosmic Horror is more than just tentacle monsters. Its the idea that you are a small and insignificant speck compared to some of the great and terrible things in the universe, and the utter futility of things (though the second ending fits better into that), madness being just a side effect.
I liked that we never really got to see any real Old Gods, and that the insanity and madness of things felt inevitable, but earned. I was also pleasantly surprised by how likable the supporting cast was. I was rooting for Declan, even though I knew there was no way he'd make it. I enjoyed that it subverted a few tropes here and there, with the characters not turning on one another (Inna being the obvious exception), and liked that it still managed to raise doubts about the other characters, learning their dubious backgrounds. Mars and the moons were also a brilliant idea for setting.
I wish more of the backstory and world building were present in-game and not just in text from computers you could find or leave. I didn't really feel like it achieved its goal of isolation with all the interaction between characters. There also seemed to be a few underutilized or random things, like the clones, and the robots, and the whole sub base that amounted to nearly nothing other than a few puzzles and an exposition dump, the plant-hybrid creature that attacks you a few times that never really matters, and the fact that all the other characters had dark secrets, but they never do anything with it. But some of those could've been red herrings.
Overall, I think it's a step in the right direction for the genre. Hoping we continue to see more like it!
So far- only Bloodborne managed to do the cosmic horror the best.
This game has the best insanity/secret knowledge meter and mechanic and you do feel like you "discovered what you shouldn't".
And Bloodborne isn't even a pure on horror game
Another one that does cosmic horror really good is Darkwood, but it's more vaguer than Bloodborne and for most of the game you feel it's more of a Dark Fairy Tale (the creatures and characters with titles instead of names)
Hell, Darkwood doesn't even have tentacles per say
For a moment there, when Shane first picked up the box, all I could think was "if Cenobites show up, this game has officially gone off the rails"
1:43 lol! Just Cj ruining an epic moment. 😂 this is going to be good. 🍿🍷
The power was out in my whole town for two days, it was MADNESS! The first thing I did today when it came back on was watch this, your voice restored sanity to my poor head...
Shame for Shane to die like that I guess
I quite enjoyed this game. The environment and details were really good. I don't fully understand the lore, but I still like it.
Thanks for playing it! Keep up the good work CJU :)
It was awesome visually but the story was so busy with facts. It was a good game overall.
Shouldn't protagonist and the crew be "resurrected" by the cloning facility?
They wouldn't have memory of this day though.
I really loved the playthrough Chris. The story was great, although I had to laugh at how Cynthia's voice actress decided she was going to turn into a Shakespearean Ac-tor in the end, with incrasing melodramatic delivery, and suddenly with an English accent too. 'Ennunciation, Shaaaaane...its what the moons requirrrrre!'.
Except for one problem. Shane was already contaminated with the filth. Cynthia states it clearly. You poisoned the engine the moment you touched it.
Actually from the Secret World perspective that was a lie. You actually just unlocked the engine, which was holding back the dreamers. A trick on the part of dear mother. Just like sending you to space to fully wake them up.
@@TCO_404 Filth makes it so easy to twist the mind of the infected after all.
Damn. In both endings, Shane becomes another lost cosmonaut. Makes ya wonder if his last moments were picked up via radio back on Earth.
Cosmonaut? He wasn't Russian...LOL.
Yeah, no happy ending for him or his team, I'm afraid. Then again, Orochi personnel ALWAYS dies. They are basically red shirts.
Both endings? So there's more than one ending?
@@TheGollddMAN watch until the end of the video :)
@@TCO_404 Oh thanks. I usually skip the face cam segment at the end so I missed it. Thanks again.
This was an amazing saga! Thanks for the videos, enjoyed your witty commentary throughout!
That wasn't bad. I probably would of enjoyed it a little more with knowledge of the background lore. Cheers for the double upload today! Looking forward to getting back into Song Of Horror
Yeah, with the backstory knowledge, you'd know that mother dearest was lying about everything during this video for example. :3
Ha! I knew she was up to no good, just couldn't put my finger on it, till I saw the ending of course lol
What irks me about this game is that it there's no interaction with your colleagues, other than the chatter with Declan. It kind of feels as if you're the fifth wheel, while the rest are playing the real game. This game is also extremely linear, with a world that's rather empty and devoid of meaningful interactions. The story itself isn't good enough to make you want to play through it again, as far as I'm concerned.
A real shame too, considering the awesome introduction.
Ty for finishing both. I always expect more from the end of these stories. Pretty good
Enjoyed this immensely. Thank you for a most entertaining experience!
thanks for including both endings, I really enjoyed this gameplay of yours
I just binge watched Beast inside and this game. I enjoyed both. Beautiful games and interesting stories. Thanks CJU. I love watching you play. I throughly enjoy your videos. You're the best. Cheers
Its an overall pretty good game. Love the characters and how they interacted with each other. Thanks for this gameplay CJU ♡♡
There was also an achievement you missed, that had to do with dying by electricity. (I missed it on my first playthrough too, had to play the beginning sequence again to get it.)
Hi good game nice commentary as always I liked this one I liked the sci-fi take on a lovecraft type of game . Shane was was a good protagonist and I even liked the side characters I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes this genre .
8:21 Swearing English Homer Simpson. 😊
The end to another solid game made much more enjoyable by your gameplay and commentary. Thanks for this second upload today, Chris. (I left a vulgtm instead of a fthagn--hope you don't mind. Lol)
@OutlawRebel117 I don't know, OR--if you had giant glowing red balls you might *want* someone to shoot them...
Fucking hell wow. What a great game. Had me gripped from start to finish. Didn't get the whole thing with the hand and rhe orbs but became apparent towards the end. So glad I got a PC a month or so ago and I'm going to purchase this game as its on CDKeys for £5.99. Thanks for the playthrough.
Two games' ending in one day, good one mate...Im not regret to wait for cju's playthrough, despite others already offered those two week ago....
Fantastic series! Thanks! I'm looking forward to the next round of videos!
I enjoyed this game. I think you got all the blocks correct for the gaia engine.
Wrapping up both games just in time for Song of Horror! 😄 I really enjoyed the beginning half of this game, but it started to lose something for me in the last 2 videos. Still, happy to have watched it. Thanks for playing!
That was much better than the reviewers gave it credit for. Enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this playthrough!!
“There’s the toilet. Still can’t flush, damn.”
Lmfao 🤣
You got the good ending yaaay~
This has been really good!!! Loved this game! Happy Halloween 🥳
very great playthroughs cju very great videos as always
2 ending game in one day, maybe cju preparing himself for another episode song of horror ;)
So sad it comes to an end
love the updated game specific out-tro....YogSothoth!
Nice vid :) Was fun. Nice playthrough.
This was a great looking game !
And here I thought this is how Doom 2016 started.
Good fun.... I enjoyed the whole game...thanks for showing the second ending, too! I liked the first ending better as it really was telling his mum to fuck off..
:0c hmm hmm i dont fully get how the last bit with the rocket was part of her plan. she could have just said "all is for naught im sorry" and let the thing happen. Did he need to be out there for the thing to do the thing? Or was it just to get him off the planet? If it was the latter, that would imply there was something he could have done to stop it planet-side.
Cheeky double upload
Well the filth is pretty much a staple in secret world. Of course the lovecraftian stuff is as well. The only mars reference I know of is in the teaser for secret world it mentions something about mars I think
awesome ending
Great fun thnx for playing
Started the video at a random point and first words said were “still haven’t told my mom to fuck off” lol
Load it up again and don't use the radio to see the bad ending
check the last few seconds of the video...
@@lordhylia5745 I missed that 😅
I never stick around for the cam highlights
Gotta ask why the payload couldn't be launched at the "entity" coming thru the gate. Probably wouldn't kill it, but would a nice middle finger.
all these cyrano here and there reminds me of Dr. Earl Serrano from Dead Space 3...
And Max Payne, now I think about it.
That Ray Romano confession.
"Its not everyday I escape from a ancient martian temple" hahaha
Honestly, I enjoyed the story the first half. The second half felt very drawn out and felt like it was just trying to fill out gameplay (hours).
Finally, it ends! :D
Have yet to watch this video in full, but everything else thus far has just been "meh" to me personally. The only good thing this game has going for it is the stunning amount of detail and voice acting. Everything else is generic at best.
@@IndigoDaffodil111 That is completely true.
You Died...Dark Souls reference?
24:38 XD
I'm here to leave a fthagn, su'althogg and a phlegeth
wake me when it time 2 sing Song Of Horror
Wow. That ending was... bobbins. Once again glad I never bought this game. And the main message seems to be to trust the corporate overlords over a woman who was built up to be helping her son the whole way through, which is troubling. I'd trust Lovecraftian horrors from beyond the veils of time and space before I ever trust a corporate CEO.
😁
Everybody Loves Raymond 😁
phlegeth...?
i guess?
The overly complex massive loredumps that still don't really succeed in explaining what could've been a 'fairly' simplistic plot are probably the worst thing about this game. After the thing with plantdoctor, the game slows to a crawl while the game tries desperately to explain itself, and because of its overly complex lore attachments to The Secret World, it doesn't even really manage it. It's just head-scratching lunacy. If you'd cut out all TSW stuff, it might've been a decent spooky space horror story, instead of feeling like you'd missed like three novels worth of required reading.
Also, the thing about the enormous, sprawling Orochi secret hidden base 'under' the Mars base was goofy as hell. How would they keep it supplied? How would a team of trained astronauts and scientists and specialists not notice the supply ship was bringing in a metric fuck ton more supplies, fuel, and resources, than they needed, or even saw stored in their base?
Yknow, i wouldve liked this more if they hadn't used your average cthulhu language and statues. Too many people revert back to the Lovecraftian nonsense when they could've just kept going with their already novel ideas.
Yeah i have mixed feelings about this game
