  • In this video I finally get a good Android based head unit to work, this gives full control over apps with the Google play store.
    If you have a 2015-2017 XTR or GT badge BT-50 then you probably have issues with finding a good Android head unit due to the different harness Mazda had for this car.
    I will show you how to install a T'eyes CC3 2K and run through the fascia wiring, the weights, costs, competition and everything to do with the install.

    Just wanted to add the following:
    I don't rate the T'eyes launcher, I use Nova Launcher (Premium) and change the home screen layout to suit. This also gives you access to a bunch of gesture and touch actions that launch different apps or shortcut to certain navigations etc.
    I like Nova Launcher, but being an Android unit the point is you can use whatever launcher you like and customise the screen to suit your needs.

      Are you thinking of an update video on Nova? Can you still access all the Teyes apps and car functions (steering wheel controls etc) using Nova Launcher?

    • @TheBrowneTown
      @TheBrowneTown  Před 9 měsíci +1

      My steering wheel buttons still work. I have a shortcut to the T'eyes radio and that still works.
      Nova launcher is just an app I use on my phone as well to give it more customisability. I could do a video one day but I'm busy at the moment and haven't been able to make anything fora few months

    Hey mate, thanks for the video, you're an absolute lifesaver! Just some quick questions about your reversing camera. Did your original reverse camera show in your rear vision mirror? Are you still using the original reverse camera? Does it still show in the rear view mirror or does it now show on the head unit? Cheers

    • @TheBrowneTown
      @TheBrowneTown  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The original DID show in the rear view mirror, it because I mounted the permanent rear view display over the top I lost access to it.
      Because of this I moved it to now show in the head unit (I actually split it so it shows in both in case I want to revert it to normal).
      I have a video about how to do it on this channel. It will be titled something like "how to move reverse camera feed" or something like that

  • @bigfella6424
    @bigfella6424 Před 3 měsíci

    Great video very well said but of course I have a few questions. All the modules (mini harnesses/connectors) you used, were they included with the head unit; you used some things from your old Kenwood unit, just wondering if I'll need to purchase them or do I just need the stuff you listed on the screen at the end. Also do you think it's worth trying to add a 360 cam or should be straight forward, only reason I ask is you've seen how the wiring is. When you say there's a 4G/5G option is that just like a Telstra sim? Any major issues since install or good finds that are really good. Appreciate your time and opinion Thanks:))

    • @TheBrowneTown
      @TheBrowneTown  Před 2 měsíci

      No harnesses were supplied outside of the T'eyes harness.
      The other harnesses I had because I had ordered the Kenwood unit and because it's a 2015-2017 XTR/GT they sell packages with harnesses you need. I ordered an extra one for steering wheel control from memory.
      Not sure about the 360 cam, assume you'd buy T'eyes system and it would plug into the rear of the unit
      Yes that's correct, buy a SIM card and the head unit has its own data.
      No major issues. The phone charging is weak as piss and I think it's worse. I swear it used to charge much better when I first installed it but now driving for about an hour will only add about 5% battery. So if I need charge quickly I use a separate cig socket charger.
      I do wish something similar was offered by a more reputable company like Samsung but so far no issues.
      I also wish I could map the middle steering wheel button to activate google assistant or something.

      Yes. Mine had that pathetic small blue screen at the top of the console which was pretty much good for nothing. I didn't know that was what those 3 wires were for originaly. Now I do. 👍 And yes. The switch on the left hand side. Not a lot of references to that. It was a busniness card holder and some people take it out and whach a switch in there. Do you have an update on this head unit and how it's been holding up? Android units tend to struggle in the cold, has that been an issue at all? Have you been running Carplay or Android auto? How has the quality of calls been?

    • @TheBrowneTown
      @TheBrowneTown  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hey mate,
      I can give you an update but it might not have the info you're chasing just because of the way I use the head unit.
      Firstly, I live in Australia so it doesn't really see anything south of about 6°C in the winters and it probably warms up pretty quick in the cabin of the car.
      Secondly, unfortunately I'm not much of a phone call person when driving, so I can't give good detail here. I have taken calls and have not had any issues although it didn't bring up the contact details it just showed the phone number. This might have been to do with what permissions I had allowed it (genuinely can't remember as I really don't take or make calls when driving).
      Thirdly, I don't like Android Auto or Apple Car play which is the entire reason I got this head unit so that I can use it as a standalone tablet. I run Google Maps natively rather than through Android Auto because the app is better that way (shows your speed for example). I also run Spotify natively (this has storage so I can listen offline without using data) and don't run it through Android Auto.
      However I did do testing when I first installed it to see if Android Auto worked and it did, it had full functionality to split screen between Spotify and Maps, swap which side of the car the driver's side was and it also worked wirelessly despite not being advertised as doing so. Most people with modern phones report being able to use it wirelessly. I do tend to be plugged in anyway to charge my phone (USB-C doing both charging and data transfer as required).
      Some other things I have noticed:
      • In Australia we have FM and AM radio, I haven't been able to tune AM radio but have also put very little effort into this, I was just trying to get the cricket commentary one day whilst driving and couldn't get it to grab a channel, however I was remote at the time and haven't tried it back in the city with better reception.
      • I find that sometimes I need to redo the steering wheel controls learning process. Like it will forget about the long press functionality until I redo the learning and then it's fine for another 3 or 4 months.
      • Noticed that when using Maps voice direction, it will interrupt the music but the music won't pause for the interruption so when the music fades back in 10 seconds of the song or podcast might have passed. Again though, I have made no effort to fix this in the app so it could be my settings in Spotify or Maps but previous head units faded in and out at the same point which is better especially for podcasts.
      As far as other notes I can't think of much. I use it with Nova launcher which is great, lots of gesture shortcuts and I just hotspot off my phone, have not bothered with a SIM for the unit itself.
      I do wish there was a similar product from a more top tier brand to iron out all the bugs, I wish the middle button in the steering wheel of my car could be mapped to google assistant but I can't map it to anything at all, not sure if it works with other cars or not.
      I also wish it had a physical knob to change volume (especially when off road) because if the steering controls fail I have no way of altering the volume.
