I know how he could have saved him. Lay on the wall with your arms towards him and your legs over the edge on the other side. Have him grab your arms and then use your body as a counter balance to lift him up that way it isn’t just trying to lift him up with just brute force.
Its easyer if he just jumped and in the same moment the other guy pulled(while in air) once he grabs the wall with the other hand all he needs is just to help him up a bit
Besides just walking around he could have just used his legs to walk/climb up. The guy up top in that situation isn't pulling the other dude up but just giving him a hand hold till he can grab the top of the wall and pull himself up..
