Preparing adequately for finance interviews whether as a financial analyst, credit risk or accountancy can give you a head start in your career.
This video will cover what does a credit risk analyst do, what are the skills required for credit risk analysts to succeed and what is the career progression like for a credit risk analyst.
Note: All views are my own and do not represent my past or current employers
A credit risk analyst assesses the likelihood that individuals or businesses may not be able to repay their loans or fulfill financial obligations. They analyze various factors such as credit histories, financial statements, and market trends to evaluate the risk associated with lending money or extending credit. The goal is to help financial institutions make informed decisions, manage risks, and maintain a healthy credit portfolio.

Credit risk refers to the potential loss that a lender or investor may incur if a borrower fails to repay a loan or meet their financial obligations. It is the risk that the borrower may default on their payment, leading to financial losses for the creditor. Credit risk assessment involves evaluating the borrower's creditworthiness, which includes analyzing their credit history, financial health, and other relevant factors. Effective management of credit risk is crucial for financial institutions to make informed lending decisions and safeguard their financial stability.
Well explained mate!

Hi, I am Chartered Accountant. I want to apply for credit risk analyst. I got calls from banks, finance company and JPM chase. What should I prepare and is Financial modelling course gonna help me?
Hi,that was really informative. Can you please help provide any course links that we can pursue for coding
Thanks
If you add on LinkedIn it'd be easier to provide!
How long and often are your meetings with clients?
I just took an offer for a credit risk analyst at a bank that is $90k USD base salary in a moderate COL area. I also only have 1 YOE. Are your numbers inaccurate or did I just get a great offer?
Congrats on your offer and you got a good one. But also I tried to incorporate all industries credit risk salaries, not just working in banking. Working in banks and doing credit risk that sounds accurate to be given that, slightly on the higher side if its just base.
Hiii.... I m currently a ACCA student i just want to ask what exactly can i do from now to work as a Credit Analyst which subject in ACCA to master in? And what other techincal skills should i possess
Mastering understanding the financial statements is very important. Make sure your fundamentals are good and you're always questioning what customer says about their statements. Read some credit rating reports to have an idea e.g. Moodys. And learn sql.
Hi, I have minimal coding experience, how can i prepare for it during my interview?
You wont generally be asked coding questions. Focus more on credit analysis for interviews. But doing SQL as a basics via online courses would give you a big advantage compared to someone who doesn’t know it.
Please guide me how can I learn credit risk modelling and master it . Please tell me the roadmap
this is a good question, i will look into something useful for you
At 6:02 what's is the skill? I'm sorry but I'm from Brazil and I wasn't able to get that! 😅
Ow I get it now SQL
Yes my friend! In some places its pronounced sequal and in other places its called S Q L
Hi I have a data analyst degree and can code but I do not have an in depth maths background such as calculus, linear algebra etc. Is this something that’s heavily part of the job or can I apply?
You've got Very good skills already, especially in the modern working way credit depts work . But brush up on credit concepts as you'll be tested more on them first. Don't worry about the calculus/algebra part.
@@ThatMuslimLife thank you so much for your reply brother. Even with statistics? Do you think it’s worth taking a course or would knowing Python, SQl, excel and tableau be enough?
So there's quite a lot of models to work with eg predicting losses. But it's often other teams who develop them but if you can understand them you'll have a big advantage. Your sql, python will help a lot in your day to day job. Just make sure you know credit concepts and reading financials
Thanks for sharing information. Currently i am working as credit underwriting manager in home loan department and i would like to change my carrer to credit risk. So, can you please suggest which course will helpful in future growth as a credit risk analyst. Waiting for your reply sir.
You have a lot of good base knowledge but make sure you become familiar with the financial statements. There might be introductory ACCA courses to do which can help and show employees. Long run you can look at CA or CFA but only if it's a serious career and struggling to get into it
FRM can add value to my Credit risk analyst career?
Yes it will, I will be making a video on that. Its a very well respected qualification.
I'm studying MSc Risk and Investment management from Queen's university Belfast, UK and will be completing this September, 2023. I highly appreciate and thank you for the youtube videos.
Thanks for your comment. It’s tricky to network in Belfast , but what is your undergrad in and do you have any work experience?
@@ThatMuslimLife My undergrad is in Instrumentation Engineering from India, as I have shifted my career path into risk management via masters, I lack related work experience in risk management, but I'm very optimistic and eager to gain work experience via entry level jobs / internships. I request you to please provide me some insights via your network. Thank you Also, I'm willing to relocate for job anywhere within UK.
