    This video is out dated. Ignore the computer and firmware parts of the video. I dropped HxC firmware for FlashFloppy, and I don't keep up with Hardware synths anymore.... So FlashFloppy might not be relevant, I am not sure.

Would you be able to provide a link to where I could buy the floppy emulator you installed? I’m in the US but I can’t seem to find the same black model, and want to get the right one. Keep up the great work!

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks Dave, I don't want to put external links on CZcams, the "algorithm" doesn't like it. Go to Reverb and search for HxC usb. There is a guy named Shea Alterio (Night Crew) that sells them. He is in Cambridge, Mass. Tell him you want black. His disk images on the USB aren't worth a crap. You will want to make your own files for it to work right. I am uploading a VFX video next Friday... Watch that video! These Ensoniqs are real picky about what they will read. The VFX video next Friday will save you a lot of headaches. I don't have it edited yet. These drives are a real headache until you learn exactly how to do the files. Ensoniqs hate reading these. It's gotta be Just Right.

    Just found your channel, great stuff. I have a Ensoniq sd-1 and bought a gotek from ebay a few years ago but never got it to work on my keyboard. Did you buy an ADAPTED gotek drive or is it just a standard factory one. ? I`m from the u.k. Also did you have to format the usb stick differently to fat32 or something else? Thanks for your great videos.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Brian. I have a VFX SD that I am installing a HxC in soon. That is basically a 1989 SD-1. On my Mac, I format the thumb drives to FAT32 (master boot). You can't manually put SD readable files on the HxC with any computer. The only way this drive works with the SD -1 is for storage only. The thumb drive has to have blank hfe images in it. The SD-1 will see these images as a blank inserted floppy. If you want downloaded sounds on this drive (sysex). You will have to dump the sysex onto the SD 1 through midi cables. And then save the banks to the virtual blank floppies on the HxC.

    • @brianlindon5221
      @brianlindon5221 Před 4 lety +1

      @@HankCoffey Thanks for that info, yes I manages to SYSEX a set of sequenced files from SD-1 to PC and then back which was brilliant, I have a lot of old Floppys with sequenced files I did but it sometimes crashes the SD-1 as they wont read properly with the keyboard floppy drive, I wanted to convert the disks onto a pc with a computer floppy drive and put on thumb drive so sd-1 will read them without crashing. Hope this makes some sense. :)

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Před 4 lety +1

      I think everything saved on the USB drive has to be by the VFX... I don't think it will read anything else. You'll have to load your sequences into the VFX by midi cables... then save to a hfe blank on the USB drive. I will be doing a VFX USB video in a few weeks. I'll check it out.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Před rokem

      There is no advantage. It's better to leave them IMG. HxC used to not read IMG, only HFE. At the time of this video, I wasn't aware they could read IMG. I guess since 2017 HxC can read IMG.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Před 2 lety

      A PC with a internal floppy should read them. You have to use software like Ensoniq Disk Tools or Omnifloppy... Read the disk to IMG file... Flashfoppy Goteks will read the IMG.... HxC firmware Goteks need the IMG conververted to a .HFE file. Google "read Ensoniq disks to IMG". I don't mess with this stuff much. I'm a guitarist.

    I am looking at some of these emulators. There seem to be s lot of models out there. Some say they are for Ensoniq, Somme do not. Are they different, does it matter? I just got a TS12 and they had a bunch of floppy’s included (not factory). I tried loading something and it said discs not formatted. I tried to format one of them and it displayed the same message, so, I am not sure if it is working or not.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Před 3 lety

      It might be a issue with the floppy drive. Ensoniq is real picky on what it will read also. It's a real headache getting them setup. The TS-12 Gotek should be the same as most of the others. The seller is using brand names to advertise. And sending out the same drive. All of my keyboards have the same Gotek in them.
