The weird thing is that when iOS widgets were pinned to the left of the home screen pre iOS 14, you were able to interact with with them. When they allowed you to place them on your Home Screen in iOS 14 they were no longer interactive. Glad to see the functionality added again.
Take a way a feature. Years later look at our new feature!!!! Bring back old feauture.
the old iOS widgets were completely different though
And you could scroll through some widgets too. People forget that android only got their ideas from Apple already starting it.
@@tharveytucker1 Android had widgets since 1.0, two years before the first iPad.
@@tharveytucker1 Android has had widgets since I was in middle school now im 24
Andrew just realizing he's old is so golden 😂
Ya, I use AirPods in restaurants that have music so I can hear the waiter talking. I love the direction AirPod is going making hearing more advanced and intuitive protection from loud noise and letting us hear what we want to.
Regarding the airpods, It's not about knowing that you can hear them. You remove it from one ear to show courtesy and politeness to whomever you are engaging with. Almost like the audio version of "Look at me when I'm talking to you".
And whenever that happens to me, i do feel that person is paying attention to what I'm saying more than someone who keeps their airpods on. It's a visual perception thing.
😂😂 okay
No thanks. If someone doesn’t know what transparency is they don’t deserve the courtesy.
@@frostgodx thanks I'll tell my 80 year old grandma to fuck off then
You seem like a smart a guy, contrary to these two commenters above me.
@@frostgodxlmao what, you'll tell the older people that?
Taking out your AirPods while talking to people is just a sign of respect. Especially with "service" people like cashiers, waiters and flight attendants, just shows them that you appreciate them serving you. It has to do with treating people like actual humans and not just an organic form of robot arms.
Salute gentleman 🫡
The best part of the bottle cut-away is it's definitely a pickup they got at another time
Literally just saw it and looked for this comment, was a smooth plug
It really made me laugh
Wearing the AirPods while talking to someone depends on the context of the situation, but my personal pref is if the communication turns into even a brief conversation, becomes more than a greeting, take at least one out. I prefer this of myself and of others to me. You've just communicated that you're listening. Sometimes the conversation is over by the time you get the earpiece out but do it anyway. Doing that speaks a lot louder than your words.
I can imagine the pull-the-earpod-out courtesy will be something people will keep doing just because it's a visual way to tell someone you're listening. It's not like the adaptive sound cancelation thing won't be helpful (I've been in situations where like someone from behind me is saying something, or you're just passing by and don't have the chance to determine if someone said "hi," or "how's it going," etc.) but it'll take a long long time for people raised with regular headphones to not just take them off when they have a chance to react.
The beauty of good technology is the absence of their presence. AirPods have completely changed how I can enjoy my media. Before, dawning a pair of nice headphones meant a moment of complete exclusion from my environment, not anymore!
Shut up 🍆🚴♂️🤣
So I do wear my AirPods most times when I’m out and about but anytime I have to talk to someone I would always pull out one of the AirPods to have a discussion. And I’m usually using transparency mode because it works so darn good. However, when I’m on a plane or mowing the lawn, those are pretty much the only times when I’m using noise cancellation mode. Which that also works so darn good.
Always enjoy these clips from the podcast Marques
😐
Especially so I don’t have to hear much from the other two.
@@PleeseCallMeDan how so? David especially has some great takes, so does Andrew. They offer great insight in my opinion
@@ozkan576Each podcast has a person with personality and then “the other guy(s)”.
Somehow MK found some people who make him seem vibrant, which literally needs 2 Mark Zuckerbergs. So I don’t blame someone for not liking them as much.
This channels becoming more and more entertaining by the day. Absolutely love to see the synergy between all of you.
You can’t scroll the widgets because they can be in Smart Stack, also you have different gestures to open search bar for example. I think it’d be messy to navigate
Also swipe to the left and right are locked to changing screens. No way Apple is going to introduce any confusing mechanic
What is nuts is we had widgets on the desktop in Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4, in 2005. We are just now getting widgets back on the desktop in macOS 14 nearly 20 years later.
well, no one used them then and no one uses them now.
@@SkaterStimm I don't understand why Apple etc are pushing them so heavily because yeah nobody uses them.
No one used them, yet they were consuming computing resources. So they were removed. Windows had widgets in 1998. These things come and go, as new management teams try to “innovate”.
@@pressrepeat2000 Yeah I think we are in a trend of software adding features for feature's sake right now.
The end was the absolute best with the headphones bands flipped down. Soooo funny! love it!
love the outros...keep up the great work guys!
I think galaxy buds pro had that adaptive feature for a long time now. i use the first gen galaxy buds pro and when i start talking it reduces the volume and turns on transparency mode.
The headbands-down bit in the outro is golden. Thanks for that.
Man I love the XM4s speak to chat feature. Love it.
The old widgets on iOS were interactive. They only removed it in ios 16! They support the old widgets still as my car app has to use it to unlock/climate/etc
Widgets possess significant potential to enhance user engagement while reducing reliance on apps, thereby effectively reducing overall screen time.
My Sony LinkBuds (the ones with the hole) have the feature where the audio pauses when you speak, but it also pauses music when you sing, when you hum, when you whisper a word to yourself, when you clear your throat, and when you cough.
FYI, you can turn the transparency mode without the app on the XM5s. Simply do a two finger hold on one of the cups until you hear a prompt.
first time seeing this channel. great content
Transparency Mode is so useful. So many times I'm on a crowded Train and people wearing iPods are blocking the exit, so they don't hear me asking them to move, so annoying!
I absolutely wear my headphones everywhere and so does everyone else at my warehouse job
Yo where did you get that Arc Browser sticker? I've been using Arc for a few months now and absolutely love it, and I'll happily stick that on my laptop.
My Samsung buds also quiet the music when I speak, but it also does it every time I clear my throat.
Seeing yesterdays weather is great for me as teacher. We track the weather in my classroom.
2:18 FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! This is seriously the feature I have always wanted!
Google buds also have this similar type of adaptive mode
Just saw advertisement for Status Audio. Have you tried the between 3ANC? Curious how they compare to the apple pros.
Adaptive mode is awesome! I used it just last week while mowing the yard.
Wow, you use the mode that is not even available yet thats super awesome!
@@Thekidisalright Yup! I got the iOS 17 beta, have been using that along with Watch OS 10, and the Airpods Pro update. Watch OS 10 is easily my favorite so far
I'm becoming that person who wears AirPods Pro even when people talk to me. This new mode I think would be great!!
If you are older and hard of hearing, can transparency help you hear better?
On the Sony's (at least the M4) you can hold with two fingers for a few seconds to disable the auto transparency feature.
I was kinda hoping we would get pages for the dock on the home screen.
So wait does apple music not have widgets for playing music in the background? That's wild
Revolutionary.
Why would you need a widget? It's on the lock screen and control center both
@Arslan Tarar why do you want less options? Just because you don't use it doesn't mean others don't want it
@@Random_dud31 What part of my comment makes you think I want less opinions? It’s quite literally asking for his opinion. “Why” is a question.
@@arucious sorry. I meant options
How about those airpods pro with engrave in it that doesn’t show the engrave in iphone when gets connected? Was it fixed?
I would love it if android ever decided to have a weather app that updated the temperature at any time after I have turned it on (seems like it only updates the temperature on initial startup)
Can interactive widgets be disabled? I just want to see the info without accidentally tapping anything.
You have been able to do all this on pdfs in the files app
Can you test the new adaptive mode already?
I have the Sony WH-1000MX4s and have exactly the same issue, but from how the have described the new AirPod feature, I think it sounds better.
How does the new adaptive anc mode affect battery life I wonder?
Lol the last clip was hilarious
Adaptive noise cancelling has been available on my Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 buds and the chat to pause feature (or whatever that's called) is the first thing I've turned off on the Linkbuds S
As silly as looking at yesterday's weather sounds, I've wanted this for so long. If I know the weather today is like yesterday, then I know whether I needed a jumper or coat.
this came on android when my grandma was a teenager
You are so young !
😂
I have a much older sibling and I’m legit a “great” uncle who had an android phone as a teenager with widgets that scroll smh Apple
Can I have a useable music widget to control basic music functionality from my Home Screen finally?
Yes, but nobody uses Android tablets
But Android tablets are garbage, most apps aren’t even optimised.
i just ordered pros 2 like two days ago so i guess this is perfect timing
Dude, yesterday’s weather is a rad feature. Many a time have i wanted to see that.
hahah... the water bottle image sales pop up... hahaha nice 3:03
Is there a way I can add an additional pin to my Android phone whenever I want to reset just like the way the restrictions code works in IOS
Sony Xm3/Xm4 Tip!
Hold 2 fingers on the pad for 2 seconds to turn on/off speak to chat.
That feature changed my life!
after many research , i have only found 2 android apps (MultiTimer, TeaTime) that is a clock widget and you can select multiple Set Timers like 5mins , 10mins.. or you can Add minutes to the Timer with + or - . And all of that done through the widget. Android too lacks a lot of interactive widgets.
I started laughing when they were talking about docx! My dad always needs my help for his business when he has to sign documents electronically thru email. It’s such a pain in the ass. That one hit home 😂
The gag at the end 🤣🤣🤣
I have 3 sets of AirPods but recently heard about some exploding in people’s ears. My pros started getting static in left pod but I’m leery about reordering. Has anyone else heard of this and what do you guys think about it?
The whole widget stuff even when I had an android I never used it so it makes no difference to me
Interactable vs interactive?
Will PDFs on iPhone add input fields to PDFs?
Just walked through the city and yah we are 100% at the “wear airpods all the time” level out here and it’s actually really nice
Galaxy buds have had voice detect feature since the first Galaxy Buds pro
They can send in DocuSign but that program still likes pdf better.
what if I sing along while in adaptive audio mode?
Been using the beta ios17, it’s working difficulty for now the widgets you can click.. 😂 but the battery lige has been amazing ❤
the reason they send you docx is because some of them send other people forms that needs to be filled first before signing it and with it in docx form, they are able to keep the format consistent within the document and in that form, people can still edit it with google docs if they don't have any of the other options to edit the file on the go.... signing it is easy now since most apps support this feature now for free... compared to last time when it was a paid feature from adobe pdf only back in the day.....
in fact i give more respect to people who sends me docx forms first before sending me pdf ever since i use it a lot at work... since the pdf format makes the added on words appear weird over half the time and sometimes they are placed way off from where i placed them when editing the document... i sometimes even have to convert them back to docx just to reedit the whole documents and then i have to fill it in again and convert it back to pdf... sending a pdf is fine if its only to sign the document but when you need to fill it in.... docx is the proper way to send a document to another person imo....
Less interactivity means less processing power, which is important for processes that are always running.
FYI, you dont need the app to turn off the speech auto transparency mode on the sony XM4s.
4:34 thats some jabawakeez fancy finger dancing wave thing going on
Scrolling would be cool, but stacks and smart stacks exist. How would that function work along with vertical scrolling? Maybe some widgets could not support smart stacks? But yes, there should be some form of scrolling and enabling some other intractable UI elements would be nice
cant imagine swiping down on my home screen and my iphone randomly decides whether to scroll through a widget's content, scroll through a smart stack, open spotlight, or some combination of the three.
and besides, if i want to interact with a widget beyond just tapping it a couple of times, im probably better off just opening the app for a full screen experience
As a postal carrier I wear my AirPods all the time so the adaptive thing might be nice
6:02 Younger person here. I only keep my earbuds in when talking to people if I’m specifically studying at a Barnes and Noble and order at the Starbucks in the library.
Sony 1000XM4 headphones, touch with 2 fingers (the right ear cup) until deactivates "speak to chat". This is useful because every time you change the device I think It will activate automatically and with this gesture at least is practical
I’m 22 and I just think about when I’m gonna want to interact with people or hear something and turn on transparency mode. When someone talks to me, i just pause, then go back either to transparency or FNC.
that water bottle shout 😂
watch out Linus
It’s been about 10 years and guess what , mkbhd sticks true to the audio technica m50x
“Go off king” 😂😂😂
I have air pod pro 2’s and it feels like the sound protection (like when a bus would be tearing by) has not worked since I got them. On the originals, it worked really well, but doesn’t seem to on the 2s.
When it was announced I wondered if it would work in crowds at a concert. Drown out the roar of the venue-and the annoying superfan behind you-yet retain the stage performance.
Can we talk about print to pdf
First Apple has to fix their airpods staying connected. And get their stem capacitive buttons working. And get it working with calls too without breaking.
Ngl the bottle ad was a bit too smooth, bordering shamelessness 🤣🤣
1:27 started singing
About the interactive widgets... I've had this on Android for 10 years.
Still calculator for iPad?
what Microphone did MKBHD is Using?
Looks like an Electro-Voice RE-20
So long as my weather app has in-app advertisements, they won’t let you functionally use the widgets without having to fully enter the app imho
It makes so sense that people are sending NDAs in editable docx format. Someone could just add or change some of the clauses and sign and they likely wouldn't notice. Thats really stupid
Always with the docx files. Then on the iphone they're all scrambled.
I think Quinn from Snazzy Labs did a video or maybe a series of tweets or something, after they changed the design of widgets, that explained why they used to be interactable but not anymore. Thanks for making widgets good again apple.
Ios had interactive widgets for years (in notification). But these are new and static (app is not running in background) an new interactive version is version of this and android is yet to implement anything similar - widgets on android are just app running and draining battery constantly
That's crazy, I've had that feature on Android since 1978.
You can scroll on Samsung's Reminders widget
Yeah I can imagine scrolling in the widget, but guess what - instead of scrolling, you can tap it and (now you better be sitting down for this bit) it actually OPENS the app!
I have an airpod in one of my ears at all times. From wake up to bed.
Gen 2 of the podcast is everyone looking like Geordi LaForge lol
1:28 LOL
Now if only I could get my students to know that they have to upload PDFs to the LMS for their assignments instead of pictures or .docx files.
I am not looking forward to that AirPod change, sometimes old fashioned is good. Respecting people and actually listening is something we shouldn’t lose. This will further damage teenagers as they have already lost so many social skills.
ok, we need the waveform podcast intro and exit song name, or somebody just make it into a track or loop it and put it on youtube.
