These 2 young men interviewing Mr Jack Nicholas are to be congratulated for allowing him to talk without interrupting. This is an uncommonly good trait today, because most interviewers are not like this. Invariably they’ll sometimes butt in when they should be sitting back relaxed and listening quietly. Seemingly they can’t help themselves. And they interject because regrettably they lack the necessary confidence to relax and simply listen and take it all in. Well done young men. All golfer along with lots of others who don’t play the game are very interested in what Mr Jack Nicklaus has to say. And this is for two reasons. He really excelled by becoming the best of the best, but also it’s because he’s a very likeable person and that’s because he’s a decent guy. He’s a logical analytical type that has the ability to coherently articulate and explain how he did it. And everyone wants to know this-how a champion did it, hoping that they might pick up a tip or two. Hence we are interested in how he did what he did, and this contributes to making him an interesting person. His likeability is reflected in his face and but also by his deeds. And though he has been greatly honoured he isn’t hungry for honour. But he’s wise enough to realise that it means a great deal to a lot of people. And it’s for their sake, not his own, that he allows this honouring to take place. And of course quite naturally he gets a kick out of it too, who wouldn’t-he wouldn’t be normal if he didn’t. Great interview. Thank you. Loved it a lot.

@@icanflypod As an add on I’d like to add that the good will of the people, albeit it’s an invisible part, however this shouldn’t be underestimated-because it plays its part in the success of the champion. A great champion must have the good will of the people behind him. And to achieve this they have to be extremely likeable. But what they are on the course is what they are like in everyday life. No Jekyll and Hyde stuff. Arnold had this in spades because transparently it was obvious he was a nice guy on and off the course. Therefore people really wanted him to win. When Jack’s turn came along it was the same deal. Firstly he got their attention by how well he played, out playing Arnold, and then when they realised what a truly nice man he was, they got behind him. A key ingredient to being a great champion in the golfing world is you have to be an even greater gentleman. A person of moderation. No spitting spits of distain on the golf course or swearing. No riotous living or replacing old wives with new wives. No you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Today they call it old fashioned. But hey guess what. It works.

I stood in a champions tour autograph line of 200 people.
Jack was the only one who signed EVERY person's hat or program. It took him an hour. He couldn't stand that well.
All the others (eg Trevino, Crenshaw, McCord, etal) signed a couple dozen each.
That guy who tried to beat his record with 15 majors fails in character & comparison.

the best part of Jacks stories is about him and Barbara's time together. the one common denominator between the two of them appears to be a selflessness about themselves and more about their love for each other. with Jacks story about Nan being born, Barbara was more concerned getting dinner on the table for Jack and their friends then the pain im sure she was going through due to her labor. if people today could have an ounce of that way of being, so many more people would have really happy marriages.

I’m always struck by the contradictions in Jack’s personality. Over the years men like Dave Marr and Herb Wind, Hord Hardin, P.W. Thomson have talked about his ego, his brashness, but whenever he is lauded and celebrated I sense in him an unease, a perplexity, that I think betrays his humility. In 2022 he was honoured by the townspeople of St Andrews and his acceptance speech was peppered with expressions of gratitude that, 50 years after his prime, he was still remembered. Even in your delightful and captivating conversation he seemed uncomfortable, unsmiling, only in the opening moments in the face of your perfectly forgivable tributes. Your thoughtful questions, if I may, suggested considerable research and the result was Jack at his most absorbing; expansive, reflective, engaging. Of particular interest were those questions that provoked his musings upon sportsmanship, upon the importance of graciousness in adversity. Jack always seemed to embody the idea that in victory a golfer should appear sad for the loser, in defeat happy for the winner. Years from now when historians of the game are searching for insights into Jack’s character they could do no better than to begin with this very illuminating interview. Thank you.

Mr. Nicklaus, as an USAF Vietnam veteran, I am deeply grateful for Military Day at the Memorial Tournament. The four passes given to me are enjoyed by my friends as well!
I have never had the honor and pleasure to meet you. Hopefully, that will become a reality very soon!
Twice, I have had the pleasure to meet Mrs. Nicklaus. I have always admired her ability to remain comfortable in her own skin, even though she is married to such a great celebrity! Should I ever have the opportunity to meet you, I have a wonderful story to tell you about Mrs. Nicklaus and her humility!
Finally, because of your generosity, I have had the opportunity (4 years in a row) to meet and speak with Chairman Fred Ridley. (Augusta National Golf Club)
Each year, and I will never know why, he graciously gives me his time for lengthy conversations! Truly a wonderful gentleman and a great listener!
May everyone reading my comments, be blessed beyond comprehension! 🙏🏽📖🇺🇸👮‍♀️⛳️🏌️‍♂️🤠

Nicholas is a phony. He played good golf, however, as an individual, he lacks integrity, character, morals. He supports a racist for president. Woods, is also lacking in integrity, but he was a way better golfer than racist nicholas. Tiger had much more competition, and as I said because of his moral lacking, he would have eclipsed nick.
